  1. I have RC-35 center, the small cap/cover pops out using a small screwdriver or similar tool and you should be good to go. If any of your speakers have the solid metal shorting bar installed, that is obviously to provide a common input to all speakers in the unit versus bi-amping. Checked my RC-35s and they have these.
  2. Agree with Dennie's recommendations. I have not heard a difference with dedicated SACD versus hybrid, are you concerned about a data rate or disc storage capacity issue? With the Hybrid discs, you can rip the standard CD layer for media player use, etc. Assuem these discs will also play in a car player, have not tried that. Does you player also do DVD-Audio discs? Some of those can be found with a separate standard CD disc included. Some of Mark Knopfler's albums take that route, at least Sailing to Philadelphia does. One of my favority SACDs is Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon, everytime I have a chance that is a killer demo. As noted, some discs/albums will be better than others, my experience has been more positive than negative.
  3. Search the forum for Thorens or turntable setup. Someone sent me a link a year or so ago for a friend who has a Thorens, can't find that email right now. Try 2-channel on this forum or Audiogon.
  4. Michael, always good to see you here and especially good news makes it even better. Keep on keepin' on!
  5. I'm certainly not an expert on this type of instrument, but have had the opportunity to hear the Spreckles organ in San Diego at Balboa Park several times. The instrument is housed in a building dating from the San Diego World's Fair, the keyboard is newer, of course. The sound in an outside environment is simply amazing. In my locale (St. Louis) there are occaisional church based organ recitals that I think about attending. Check out the web site for the Spreckles in San Diego, Sunday afternoons, free concert in the park.
  6. Call Klipsch customer support. I have R5800 and just have to be very carefull not to push the grills in all the way, not familiar with your models.
  7. I run Blue Jeans sub cable from amp to wall outlet. Then RG-6 approx 35-50 feet in wall and under floor to other side of family room. Then pop back out and back to Blue Jeans cable again to SVC PC-Ultra. Adapters as required to make everything play. RG-6 left over from running cable to all the bedrooms. Sounds good to me.
  8. Recently bought SACD release "In the Court of the Crimson King". Very cool!
  9. Have you tried Klipsch tech support? Possible they could provide some guidance. I have RC-35 and it performs nicely. Hope you can get yours up to snuff, it's a very good center channel speaker.
  10. DSOTM in 5.1 surround is a unique sensory experience. Try Amazon, Acoustic Sounds, etc., make sure the disc is a Hybrid SACD so you can also play it in regular disc player as a regular CD.
  11. Does anyone have any data points on extended warranties for flat panel TVs? Looking at probably a plasma TV purchase sometime this year, trying to navigate the options on three to five year extended warranties. So far I've read about Square Trade and Service Master, but very limited feedback on coverage and experiences. Any inputs appreciated.
  12. I have a similar quandry and have considered selecting an item which would have good resale as un-opened, maybe line up someone who is interested at less than retail before making the selection. Just a thought.
  13. I have R5800 in-wall speakers. Very nice for both movies and music. Check power rating of what you wind up buying, could be less than your mains.
  14. If a new surround receiver has dedicated 5.1 analog inputs, then you can run the 2900 directly in. You will not be able to interface via HDMI, you will not be able to play BluRay and you will not be able to upconvert standard DVDs to any of the hi def formats. Having said that, I plan to keep my 2900 for SACD and DVD-A disc playback via the 5.1 analog outputs regardless of a future receiver or disc player purchase. The 2900 is a sweet deck, I have been amazed by it since purchasing from a forum member who moved on to high def formats. So, comparable? Not in terms of the high def side of the equation. But desireable - yes, in my book, very much so. The Oppo deck that does SACD, DVD-A, standard DVD and BluRay is on my radar for future acquisition, but until then, the 2900 is my player of choice.
  15. Try DiscDoctor for cleaning chemicals and processes for 78s and others. http://www.discdoc.com/ Dig thru his entire site, much info and references to Library of Congress, etc. for cleaning solutions.
  16. Bought the new McCartney New York concert at Starbucks yesterday, wife was out shopping till late evening, so I was home groovin' with Sir Paul! This package has 2 CDs and 1 DVD with the concert in 2 channel or 5.1 DTS audio. I went half way thru with the 5.1, rears (my surrounds are on the rear wall of my family room.....) louder to get the audience effect of the stadium. Then went back for selected tracks in 2 channel, not bad but miss the big center channel in 5.1. Some poignant tracks for John and George and many standard McCartney items, around 33 songs all told. Anyway, very good concert DVD and now I can rip the CDs to my Zen player. There is another version with two DVDs, Letterman appearance by McCartney and some other stuff on the second DVD. Overall not a bad 15 bucks for the three disc version.
  17. Super, Christy!! Any chance Klipsch will pay for free advertising?
  18. My standard line for 30 years while raising our kids was that by the time I could afford a decent audio system I would not be able to appreciate it. Much truth in that, but as Dtel noted, unless you have really serious issues there is still enjoyment. I would recommend some common sense approaches to noise abatement. Wear ear plugs when mowing the grass. Keep a set of plugs handy for concerts, even at venues you would not typically think of like church events - hey, db's are db's. Travel much? Ear plugs to reduce the ambient noise level. Is any of this fun? Nope. Profitable? Yeah, can limit the on-going damage. As my audiologist says "we live in a noisy world". Ain't it the truth.
  19. Our T-day starts with Breakfast (daughter, son-in-law and their five kids), then off to son's in-laws house (he's a chef and was tapped for duty.......), closing out with desert at second son's in-laws house late afternoon. I see a serious diet coming soon....
  20. Kriton, assuming b "SACD outputs" you really mean the player's analog outputs, which then run to your receiver analog inputs....yes? I run my Denon player in this manner for all CD, DVD, DVD-A and SACD chores and it works great. Looking at one of the OPPO BD players for when I go HD next year, now that they have added the special edition player the equation is more complicated, but since the standard model lists at around six bills and the SE is around nine bills, I'm thinking the SE is probably not in my future.......
  21. Ditto on the above, also try the LIve Melbourne Austrailia concert DVD, very good and Joe Walsh shines in his special songs as well. Interesting, I have played Hell Freezes Over DVD when I've had guys over for some audio Saturday afternoons, no one was into it. Go figure, you can please some of the people some of the time.....
  22. Wayne, so sorry to hear, have you all in my prayers. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46)".
  23. Hang in there, the benefit of having some deals fall thru is that you are more likely to know what you want and more willing to walk away if the deal does not seem right. Keep looking and best of luck!
  24. Understand your frustration.........our first house, I asked the realtor as we signed the final papers, how the termite inspection had gone. He replied that the damage had been repaired. Ouch! What damage? Turned out to be a good repair and no return of the little beasties, but as you noted, a lesson learned. Same house, we had added a contingency for "roof inspection". The inspection concluded the house needed a new roof. But the contract contingency was for an inspection, not a "way out" if the house needed a new roof! So, chalk it up to experience. You'll find something as good or better, and 30 years from now it probably will all be down in the dust as far as how your life-long house experiences rate. So hang in there and keep looking.
  25. Info from Amy is that the new ones have the same components and the same grilles as the original series. Did not ask about the motorboard, though.
