  1. Flatter is a better description... not "larger“.
  2. Soundsblike someone wants a cookiebecause they will make a trek... facepalm
  3. Those ARE a great deal... someone get them. If only I was closer:p
  4. I would think some level of absorption would be a good thing... specially if you could not get a horn to resonant at 440hz.
  5. The wife loves toto so I have to keep a few discs on hand to have good graces...
  6. On a personal note... I can not listen to a speak directed on axis at the LP... I need a few degress of wider deflection to get the best imaging and comfort. The degree offset needed is different for each application and in fact for each source material... but there is no way I am moving a speak for each disc I play .
  7. What about other retro fit eminence 15" drivers that have BETTER specifications? Kappa?
  8. Doesn't this just mean a wider lateral dispersion pattern as opposed to one that goes more directly towards LP?
  9. the soundsmith cartridges are so unbelievably tiny and lite. I was slightly shocked when I got mine as it looks so delicate and fragile. I take it the Digital front end is working out for you? I am thinking about going the same way as yourself... staying with class D for now though, but adding a upscale DAC/DSD and then reevaluating where my system is at. I doubt I will sell my VPI though... though I do have a Rega P5 for sale now unless I can happen to find a modification that allows for 78rpm.
  10. any Charlie Brown Christmas? I know there is a remaster version around and I was thinking about picking it up.
  11. so where the hell were you last week before I bought my Classic 2? I'm wondering... did VPI go with a sub platter configuration on the newer classic 2? the reason I ask is because I don't see a drive belt. how hard was the set up? I am sure I will be okay with my older C2... GL with SALE. this is a superb set up.
  12. vast majority of it is source material related... harshness isn't inherent, efficiency and clarity are. that being said, as I moved up the chain of Klipsch, and made modifications, I found that old source material that was un-listenable had become somewhat enjoyable. At least until I found better source material... don't skip on your source material if you really are trying to achieve critical listening.
  13. are you sure you're not merely a Spud?
  14. I've seen these since they were listed... 535's and they wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes... 904's and I can think about it for a while.
  15. or someone wanting to build a mono set up... like me.
  16. indeed... I could not agree more. A think a major draw back is that these releases take a lot of WORK to produce... much like remastering a movie. not many albums are going to get that treatment, as a matter of fact there are only a handful at best that I would consider owning.
  17. I just listened to two new releases of OLD albums I own in MULTIPLE formats. I just received (last night) Yes- Close to the Edge and The Yes Album in Blu ray Audio... I own both Albums, in Vinyl... I own both Albums on CD... I also Own Close to the Edge on Half Speed Master Vinyl and SACD... in addition I own The Yes Album on SACD. ALL OF THOSE FORMATS are no where near what Blu ray audio uncompressed has delivered... Pure Nirvana. The presence, the presentation, the separation are all light years ahead of any of those older formats. both those releases are stunning.

    What I Got Today!

that Vega has superb specifications at an extremely attractive price. Specially when compared to something like the Wyred 2DSD SE @ $2500.
  19. it's the db's at a given range that is more important.
