  1. You raised a good question. Who is the middle class today? Yesterday it used to be something like 12 to 30 bucks per hour. At least in my mind. Maybe it was more but 30 bucks an hour was pure gold for me. You raised another good point. Who is buying all of these $300,000.00 houses? I don't have a clue. The mortgage payment, real estate taxes, BMW and Hummer financing? 150 grand wages to me was like a million. I could only dream of that. I'm doing ok because I planned for it my whole life. JJK
  2. Boomac: I have been a Republican all my life. Eisenhower was my favorite. He once said in a speech that the one thing that he was worried about was the power of the Industrial/Manufacturing Complex---world wide. I voted for Nixon, Reagan, Big Bush, and Little Bushy the first time. I'm a firm believer in mathematics, and the numbers say the middle class is being eliminated. JJK
  3. Crossroads was not HD, it is Digital 16 x 9. You can tell because all of the people in the audiance shots in the background are out of focus. HD you can see their zits. A lot of TV programs are doing this because the ordinary person cannot tell the difference. Remember that it's how the program source starts out, Film, DV 16 x 9, High Definition---You have to understand that HDTV looks at film, Digital widescreen, old pictures, blown up letterbox, etc.and HD and Film look the best and the nod going to HD live for the very best. Plus you are viewing it from a DVD disc which is 480p, not HD by a very wide margin. HD is 1080i and if you are viewing the Crossroads disc on an HDTV you are only seeing 480p. My assesment of the video quality on the Crossroads disc is just average on my Sony HDTV. The sound and sound mix however are exceptional. JJK
  4. I have a cheapo Kenwood KD-64F linear tracking TT since 1985 and there has never been one problem with it. JJK
  5. I bought my K-horns and Cornwall center channel in 1965 after reading up on the tests performed by Bell Labs. Working with much Bell Labs designed electronics manufactured by Western Electric and marveling at the reliablity and performance I figured if the K-horns were good enough for Bell Labs they are good enough for me. I bought them without ever hearing them and never looked back. Everyone that has heard them remarked at how clear they were, and the knee bending bass, and that was in 1965. The wall of sound cannot be explained, just heard and experienced, as was described by Bell Labs after adding the center channel as fill-in. JJK
  6. When I went through history class in school they said that some of the things that got us out of the great depression were WW-II, Social Security (keeps money in circulation), banning banks from selling insurance and other related services, changing the rules of the stock exchange with the newley created SEC run by Joe Kennedy, Federal Income Tax, etc. Now we have banks selling insurance, SEC being monitored by the prosecuter of New York City because they are all crooks, and Social Security trying to be destroyed by a reformed alcoholic religious draft dodger who is bankrupting the country. When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's it was common knowledge that if you didn't want to go to Nam you joined the National Guard. My stepfather was an alcoholic and as soon as I saw the "big man" speak I said to myself we are in deep doo-doo. JJK
  7. Is the noise in all positions that you select on the pre-amp? or is it only in the phono position? I have found that magnetic cartridges act as antennas and you have to shield the entire turntable or copper screen your entire living room, ceilings, floors, heater vents, power line feeds, and windows. Or your grounds that are in effect are not properly grounded. Is your house electrical system grounded to the water pipes or ground rod in the earth or both? If it's both you should use the earth ground as if its a well pipe most wells use plastic pipe. Do you have a ham operator aiming his antenna through your house? The slop in his RF will cause all kinds of anamolies. You might try another pre-amp as the one you have might have some kind of circuit resonant to the harmonics of the radio station. Also try rotating your speakers 90 degrees and see what happens. If it stops you have to shield your speakers. JJK
  8. Aliens have sat down with the government of the USA and said you must redistribute the wealth. Hence, WTO, global economy, ETC. The middle class and the Unions have to be destroyed. It's working rather well. If you like this explanation I have another: In the early 70's someone was telling me that there is an organization based in Switzerland that want's to eliminate the middle class to protect there riches. I told him he was nuts. Looking back, I'm the one that was nuts. The same fellow also told me about the theory of strings---the vibratory structure of matter and energy. I thought that was pretty kool. And this was in the early 70's. This guy I was talking too must have been a genius or prophet of the future. I wish he had said something about which stock to invest in. JJK
  9. I finally played the Eagles today and you guy's were right. I almost didn't get past the little sound jingle at the beginning of the disc. The volume was up real high and I had to crawl on the floor after being bounced on the wall to reach the volume control to turn it down.I recovered nicely and thought for a while that all the narration at the beginning coming out of the center speaker only might cause disappointment but when the concert started new physical laws and constants were created in our Milky Way Galaxy. I'll have to give it a tie with Crossroads. JJK
  10. Crossroads---Eric Clapton---Best I have heard Premonition---John Fogarty---Second best Live In Paris---Diana Krall---Third best I also have the Eagles Hell Freezes Over but I haven't listened to it yet. Had it for about 6 months. Now that I have the sub and the new Dean networks I'll give it a go. JJK
  11. I don't have any problem at all. Play the tape in a VHS player, next thru an analog to digital converter(ADCV-300), then capture into your video editor, then render it to your DVD writing software, then write the DVD. Done deal. VHS tapes really cannot be copyright protected and you can take that to the bank. Commercial DVD discs are protected with macrovision and can be busted with old copies of DVD-XCOPY as long as it is activated. JJK
  12. My 1965 looks the same way and by the way, don't worry about the big windings. They mean nothing in the final analysis---your ears. I crank mine now at higher levels than when new with the new Dean unit. JJK
  13. If they used some of the new miracle plastics available nowadays they might be able to press some real good records. JJK
  14. In heavy communications at RF levels VSWR is eliminated by inserting a 20db pure resistive pad between two units to match impeadance. Of course the signal has to be 20 db above what you need. A nice by product is the RF noise, adverse signals, ghosts, etc. are reduced 20 db also. They have been doing this for years. JJK
  15. Ihave used a vertical Cornwall as the center speaker since 1965 and am very happy with it. There was not a huge amount of change with the bass but the sub made huge changes and tended to even out the nodes. I do listen at very loud levels, and the K-horns are being driven with a separate amp with equalizer and expander. I use the PLCII setting when playing a standard stereo cd. It is a very very big and clean sound. JJK
  16. Well there's always Iraq, $90,000.00 per year base and $80,000.00 federal tax exemption. Of course there is always that excitement of maybe never making it back. JJK
  17. The RSW-12 has it's own settings so it doesn't matter what you run into it. I just set mine to 80 and it's a done deal as long as you feed it a center channel or LFE channel. It also has outputs to feed the center channel or LFE channel somewhere else simultaneously if you are running two subs. JJK
  18. Dean: Geeeesss. You didn't come to my house after I installed the new networks. Well, just as well, didn't want to swell your head up too much. And I use cheapo solid state amps too. I will say this though that the Cornwall is working better than when it was new. I also can drive the P--- out of the K-horns on the high end to make up for my hearing rolloff at 12.5 khz. JJK
  19. After installing "Deans" crossover in my Cornwall 1965 vintage the sound quality went from OK to glorious. The volume also increased. Voices improved about a zillion percent. I am still surprised that this conventional looking speaker performs as well as it does. And my ears aren't too good anymore. JJK
  20. My security system has the option of cellular reporting ($700.00 more)which in cutting the wires and electricity does no good with battery backup. Oh, I forgot to mention the poisen gas, and alligator mote. JJK
  21. Maron: That says a lot and answers a lot of questions of the "cheap look" of the driver. JJK
  22. It was a combination of the sound pressure level of the music reacting with the contaminants in the air and the low volume contaminants in your toothpaste and the resonant particles produced by the brushing hand. This can be proven by the new "Numbers" tv program. JJK
  23. What I wonder is how much improvement in performance is there between new K-horns and old? Drivers? Cone composition? Voice coil technology? Frequency response? Power handling capacity? Network design? Grill cloth? Grill mounting design? and is it hearable? JJK
  24. I have an old Motorola tube table model radio with stereo speakers in my barn that works real well. Then I remembered that my garage has an old Admiral console stereo (tubes) with a Garard changer that also still works real well. It does have a lot of car polish buffing debris on it. It will still pound out the booming bass, kind of like the "old days". I am just a "funnin" you but I still do listen to those antiques especially when I was refinishing the K-horns in the barn. Kind of like what "Odd Ball" says, "it kind of soothes your nerves". JJK
