  1. It's supposed to help with security. I don't know about that however if you click on Bid History, then look at the Bidders, you can click on "View" to see a lot of useful information about the individual bidders. Makes it a bit easier to pick out goofs and shills I think.
  2. Doesn't seem like apples to apples to me. I think I would prefer the $5000 speakers too.
  3. Yes, you were robbed. I run a C11/MC240 combo with my Khorns in my living room. I'm extremely happy with it. MX110, C22, C11 all very good McIntosh preamps. I didn't like the C20 much but I can't say I ever heard a properly rebuilt/serviced one. None of these units sound their best until somebody knowledgable has serviced them. That goes for just about any vintage tube amp or preamp I've ever got my hands on and I've got my hands on a fair number of them.
  4. Any turntable less than $50 is almost not worth selling on Ebay in my opinion. They'e too hard to pack.
  5. Pictures of you set up would help too. It should sound great. Could be the phono section in that old Marantz receiver too. May be something wrong with it.
  6. Oh, oh, man I gotta go after this one. I hope it's hasn't ended yet.
  7. ...and includes a test chart. I've not see this kind of back up description on tuners I've had repaired by other people.
  8. Richard Modaferri at Audio Classics. Has done more than 100 10B's in the last 10 years. Attached is a quick pic of the write up he sends back with the repair. If you can read it, you can see he "seems" to know his 10B stuff.
  9. Nice old Elac. Is that the original arm or did you change it?
  10. Picture of early shorthorn too. I had to replace the grill cloth on mine, it looked like my grandma's old couch upholstry. Nice deal by the way. I paid a lot more than $250!
  11. I wonder if the cabinet was built by the original owner. It doesn't look like the Shorthorns I've seen and the crossover doesn't look like the Klipsch crossover. Auction said something about the orignal owner "buying all of the compnents" of which Klipsch did sell spearately. Beautiful cabinet no matter who built it. These obviously are intended to be put in the corner for best bass but if you're planning on using it for a fill in center, that shouldn't matter. If you send me your email address in a PM, I'd be happy to send you some great literature and spec sheets on the shorthorns. Picture of the original crossover in my shorthorns is below. I had Dean G build me a new set.
  12. Although I've not heard either table, I would go for the Dual 1246. I would chance a Dual belt drive over an unknown direct drive. As I understand it, the Concept was sort of a "house brand" of table for a large Audio dealer in the 70's. The Dual would be easier to find parts for I would think. If I had a chance to listen to each table, I might change my mind but without that chance... I would go for the Dual.
  13. You can't post it as a "score" unless you tell us how much you paid for it! []
  14. Right, and I think that's a bit high. But, then if you trust the seller, who cares about a few extra bucks. 12ax7 usually last quite a long time.
  15. Mike, I agree with Allan, you must be using a lot of cleaner. I've got a 1/4 oz bottle of Last Stylus Cleaner that lasts(no pun...) me about 2 years. There are some that recommend not using anything on your stylus other than an occasional dry brush. I fall somewhere in between with occasional stylus cleaning every couple of album plays or so. Are you partying too much and playing a lot of beer and resin soiled lps that require you do douse your stylus that often?[<)]
  16. That seems like a bit much for Brimar 12ax7. I think if you look around you should be able to find them for about $30 to $50 each. Where are you finding them for $125/pair?
  17. Fini, That's because you read before you write. On another note, what does sapele mean?
  18. Right. It's a pair now. But when he first entered his acution he had is set up as 2 speakers that you would have had to bid $780(minimum) each. Like I said, he fixed it.
  19. He says he bought them two years ago and never used them. So brand new... sort of. Looks like he got his quantity thing straightened out now too.
  20. Don't bid on these yet. He's got his auction screwed up. He says he has 2 available and his starting price is $780. That means, if you want both of them, you'll have to bid for 2 at $780 each. I imagine he'll figure this out and revise his auction soon. Nice speakers, I bought a pair just like them about a 2 years ago but I didn't let my wife throw out the boxes.
  21. I knew these H700 grills were the non-removeable like my 65 Cornwall's. I mainly was just seeing if anyone was familiar with this style of grill cloth from '72 which after viewing the photo's again (and thinking 500 staples) it doesn't appear that this cloth was removed and/or changed. I wouldn't consider changing the grill unless I discover these are not original. Of course, if I could find some matching grill type like shown below as found on my cornwalls it would certainly be tempting. Who has an extra logo? I've seen grill cloth like that. I think I even have some in the basement. If you're looking for some, it I can see if I can remember where it came from. It's not the normal Klipsch cane stuff that most people are usually looking for.
  22. Mark, good place to ask this questions I think. Can the BB Xtreme front panel be upgaded. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about the original face plate. It's tough to read, the older I get[]. I have one of your first units where everything was pretty monochromatic. You fairly quickly changed to a more readable front panel, even though I think I recall telling you not too! Are you doing Alps pots on the BB too? By the way, congratulations Spongeworthy. You will love the Peach.
  23. Beautiful Shorthorn. The condition is outstanding. I've got some old Model S literature I can email you if you're interested. Let me know. Do you have a nice corner for it?
  24. I think it's safe to say that wolf was into random horn blowing.
