  1. Check out Boomac's stuff. Has a set of Oil Oak quartets up if some one hasn't spoken for them yet. About three post up syaing he wants to get rid of some audio gear.
  2. There was just a pair of quartets over in eastern Ill. on E-bay I believe around the Chicago area.. Sorry I already erased them from my watch list. They didn't sell failed to meet reserve. I thought the price was a little steep. I think they got up to 450 or so. If you keep your eyes open more will show up. I'm also looking for another set of Forte II's. No real hurry, just wanting to go 7.1 over the 5.1 I have now. I'm in the quadcities, where are you in south east Iowa. I live in Ill. now but I'm still a Hawkeye fan.

    Soupamoto you have a PM
  4. I had a real woody for a 928 about 10-15 years ago. I still have the magazines. I always dreamed of a red one. I think it was in Car & Driver when they reviewed the 928 that they stated " The only car you could drive for 8 hours, and when you get out you just want to get back in and drive more."
  5. Some studies say 3 to 4 grams of acetaminophen per day max. A tylenol extra strenght is 500 mg so 6 to 8 of those per day. You also wouldn't want to do that for extended periods of time. Like any medicine use only as needed in moderation. The Percocet for break through pain contains 325 mg of acetaminophen. So Marvel you only have to worry if she is needing to take 9 or more percocet per day. In that case the would probably increase the base medication of morphine. My prayers and thoughts are with you. My mother went through colon CA and it was a long tough road. Keith
  6. Mike aren't these in your back yard? They don't look as good but they would make great surrounds or center if you get some Forte II's. They may need a little cleaning up. Under 300 isn't a bad price for quartets. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5837321750&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
  7. Is that the french way of saying forte (FOTRE)? Go for em Mike. I'm holding out for Oiled Oak or at least black to fit in with my others. Maybe I need to start misspelling things to find them on e-bay.
  8. Ouch is right. I put my pb12-ultra/2 in my basement for my HT set up, I use it with 4 forte II's and an academy center. Lucky I have a walk out and could use a dolly to wheel it in there. Also i would fear what is below it. Mine will rattle the glass coffee table upstairs without much volume. As far as overkill, I have a room about the same size T shaped that opens to most of the basement. I placed it behind my sofa in the leg of the T. Sound is excelllent for HT and the first track on Pink floyd Dark side of the moon it shakes the whole house. In the Eagles Hell freezes over DVD the musical side is great and seamless. My crossover is at 100 which is higher than I would like but it is the only point my receiver has unless I set all speakers to large. Hopefully I will upgrade to a Denon some time soon and change the cross over to 80 or 60. I got it as a B-stock which you can find on their sight and come up occasionally. I have never had the chance to listen to a Klipsch. At the time I was debating between this and a RSW 15. The RSW didn't dig quite as low as the SVS according to specs and other peoples opinions on this forum. I'm happy with it and at around 2000 I thought it was a good deal. As far as sound I doubt you could go wrong with either of your choices.
  9. Sure Mike, anytime your in the Quadcity area give me an E-mail and you are welcome to come by and hear them. Maybe sometime when you are on one of your quest for la scalas or cornwalls. I do like the sound of the horns but I've never really heard much else. I bought my first set back in 89 from a local dealer, the salesman at that time said they would work great for HT and he was correct. So last spring I started to get a HT set up using my Forte II's.
  10. Yes Mike but, all I have are forte II's and a small quintet system. You wouldn't want to deprive me of that good heritage sound. And besides what would my academy work with then?
  11. Hey could I say ditto to what Tom said if anyone around chicago land or west of there have forte II's. I'm about 3 hours straight west of Chicago. I have 4 and would like to try a 6.1 set up with all forte II's. Those oak one's in Florida sure looked pretty. Great price also. I just watched some go on e-bay last week for over 700 but that included shipping. I would rather pick up with-in a reasonable distance. Black Satin or OO. I have two of each and could work either into my system.
  12. If you haven't yet got to AVS forum site. There is a lot of bias info there but there is also a lot of information that will help you make your decision. Poke around that forum and read some of the threads. It will definitely turn you on to the questions to ask and what to look for.
  13. A screen doesn't have to be that expensive. I built a 92" diagonal for around $140 total. I built the frame using inexpensive 1 by 4 pine and some metal braces. I bought the screen material ( in my case a 0.8 gain dalite) for 120 bucks. About 3 hours work in figuring and putting together. Looks great and I can change out the screen material any time for another 120 depending on my needs or upgrade. Picture quality is fantastic. ( The HD stuff looks as good as a plasma to me) The new projectors with more lumins are really coming down in price and they work very well in some ambient light. I can't have my ceiling spots on right in front of the screen but lights in rest of the room are fine. I have a 46" DLP samsueg upstairs for watching the news and such but rest of the time I find myself going down stairs to watch the games and movies. Lamp life is a consideration but you have that on rear projection DLP's also. I still vote for a projector and get a small crt for the news.
  14. I would have to agree with Audio nectar on the use of center. I have forte II's with an academy with a K stack for center. The academy is no sloutch when it comes to centers. When I watch the Eagles HFO the drums from the academy are not nearly as impressive as when I turn off the center and just use the two forte II's. I'm really considering another set of Forte IIs and using them for front and rear centers and go 6.1
  15. Boomac, I just put in a Benq PE7700. It works great with light in the back round. As long as I don't have the spots on right in front of the screen. DVD and HD are fantastic and regular TV is just as good as any other display. We can have on room lights and I have a walk out double doors next to it. I have it set up as a 92" diaganol and couldn't be happier. The projector and mount were around 2500 not hard to set up. I built a screen frame and bought screen material from AVS total screen cost 150. I used a 0.8 gain screen since the brightness of the projector needed that. The new projectors have more lumins and now the 720p naitive resolution ones are very competetive priced. I have my forte II's to the sides and rears and a academy under the screen. To me it looks as good as a plasma. I believe these newer projectors don't have near the lighting issues that the older ones have. In the price range your talking you could get an excellent projector. There is one down side and that is running cables to the projector but in my situtation it was just a little effort with a drop ceiling in my basement. If your anywere near the quad cities you are more than welcome to come take a look. If you go DLP you don't have to worry much about the 1.5 distance from the screen either and the viewing angle is great also. I can be way to the side and not get any dimming of the picture like in a rear projection unit. The lamp replacement is a concern but is no worse than any rear projection. Floor space is near zero. I would encourage you to at least look at front projection before you pull the trigger. Of course these are just my opinions and I may be bias. Keith
  16. I just installed a Benq pe7700. It is a native resolution 720p DLP projector. So far I couldn't be happier. I've watched several football games in HD and they are fantastic. I know this machine is in a bit higher price zone than you were looking. I have a friend who has the infocus 4805 and loves it. The picture isn't HD but it is still a great picture. You really need to look at projector central that will answer a lot of your questions. Also check out the AVSforum site but take what they say there with a grain of salt since some are very bias in their opions.
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't ED 520p resolution, HDTV is 720p on espn and fox and ect. and HDTV is also 1080i. The new format is 1080P but there isn't much material out there. Most old no upconverting DVD players are 480p I beleive.
  18. Hi I have the same sub. Using the spl meter is there anything rattling around you. When I set mine up the meter would pick up the noise from things rattling and once I got everything tied down then the db for the sub read much lower. Also do you have it corner loaded? The guys at SVS will gladly help you out.
  19. I've been running the forte II's with academy( I also have one of Chris's Kstacks.) I may not be an Audiophile but I can't hear much change in sound across the front stage. The sub depends on what you listen to most room size and ect. Go ask on the sub woofer forum. Those guys are good over there for suggestions.
  20. Gee forgive me I miss spoke. Mine is a pb 12 ultra/2 (no plus) Same box as the 12/2 plus just the ultra drivers I believe. Please for give me for miss naming my sub. (PS it still rocks)
  21. I have the 12 plus 2 ultra and love it. If there is to much bass just turn it down.
  22. Is there any advantage to power conditioners over the power strip surge protectors at home depo. I have been using a plain old surge protector. I can't understand how anything moster can do for the power other than just protect against surges. Without some sort of battery how can they stop low voltage. Maybe I'm just ignorant when it comes to electronics. After you protect it from a surge is there much else one can do? This will be for my projector and receiver and dvd player and cable box(if I keep cable)
  23. Thanks replace. Thats what I'm doing. That seemed right to me but I'm just kind of a worry wart.
  24. Well I have comcast and the picture is OK, but service and prices su*k. I'm putting in a projector with 720p native resolution. So I thought I would upgrade my cable box in the basement for it. I already have HD service on my upstairs tv(a 46" samsung dlp) The lady at the cable place said you can't do that, we only allow one HD box per house since they are in demand. We want everyone to get one before you can have a second one. After biting through my lower lip and breaking the middle finger on my right hand to stop it from raising up and waving in her face, I just said I know it's not your fault but you know that satelite will let you have as much HD as you want. Maybe you should mention that to your bosses. As soon as I get time I'm checking into switching to DSL instead of cable for a modem and going direct TV.
  25. I only have the 4 forte II's but with a kick a** sub. I like it for HT and also for regular TV. I think I might even go with 6 forrte II's someday when I go 6.1. When I switch between the different modes and the academy isn't used, the voices sound fuller and richer than with the modes where the academy is working also. I think the the fullness of sound is much better with larger speakers.
