  1. Since this thread title still reads "Thorens TD 124 in Sterophile" I would like to comment on that. I was very happy to see Art write about the 124. He is my favorite columnist in any magazine I have ever subscribed to. It was a well written piece and is timely for me as my 124 could use a going over. Seeing that unit painted silver really has me thinking about customizing mine a little bit as well. I'm just afraid of trying to remove the rivets on the serial plate and destroying it. Mine has good paint, but it has an annoying chip in the bottom front of the body. I have new bronze bearings waiting to go in, and silicone grommets for the motor. I've been looking for a good solution to replacing the "mushroom" rubber isolators. I started and stopped a project to build my own heavy plinth much like Mike's. I was looking for a nice piece of Mahogany,to match my Blueberry Xtreme, to trim the plinth in. Being a thrifty DIY kind of guy, i'm also thinking about building a "Ginko cloud" knock-off isolation table. All this recent hype has me thinking about working on it again. I was hoping to read a good thread on this great vintage table, unfortunately it has turned into this mess like every other TD 124 thread seems to. I always look forward to reading comments about this table from Allan, Mike L., Fini, Gary, Scott A., Kevin, or anyone else who has constructive comments about the Thorens TD 124. Jeremy
  2. I'm curious what it cost to build these with the current price of copper and everything else going crazy. I have been wanting to build a set for quite some time. The last time I priced the components was about 18 months ago and I recall it being around $300. Do you mind me asking what it currently costs to build these? Your assembly looks great so far! Jeremy
  3. You may have more luck getting replies in the Home Theater Forum. Good Luck!
  4. Welcome to the free Cornwall club! I have one pair I obtained free of charge, but my other pair I had to pay for............................They set me back $25. It pays to keep your eyes peeled, especially with spring upon us. Jeremy
  5. While we are at it, Bob do you have a Cornwall II crossover schematic? Jeremy
  6. While i'm not a Mac owner, I am a Mac drooler and all I can say is WOW!! I wonder if it sounds as nice as it looks? Jeremy
  7. I sold my R-5800-W in walls on feeBay and one of the grills suffered some damage. I'm need to get the buyer another one. I'll try and call Klipsch tomarrow to see if they are still available, but for now I wanted to get the word out that I need one grill. I remember about a year ago a couple sets of grills only, sold on eBay and I'm hoping someone will read this that might have one to spare. Thanx all! Jeremy
  8. I still love those speakers and can't wait to see then veneered. They were a big inspiration for my DIY speakers, which i'm still trudging along on. You definately have a top tier system there Luther, Congrats! Jeremy
  9. That's a great question Gregg. I guess we would need a compliance # to know for sure. Are there any specs available for the Zu 103. I would love to know a compliance # and the output voltage. Here is a nice website I use to get info for the SME 3009 - 3012. It has alot of useful info. http://www.analogue-classics.com/html/sme_3009___3012.html Jeremy
  10. I'm in the same boat, but I have the fixed headshell version which has an even lower effective mass 6.5g. Right now i'm leaning toward the Grado Reference Platinum wood body cart. I think it sells new in the $300 range. Mathmatically it is a good match and hopefully it is sonically too. Jeremy
  11. I've used the Rit dye in a very similar manner before and it worked very well. I was Restoring a 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 and the door panels were very nice except for the black carpet strip at the bottom. It was very faded and grey looking. I used the same Rit liquid dye as Greg, but in black. I cut it with water so it was very thin, and poured it into the cup on my touch up HVLP paint gun. I taped off the vinyl area and put several light coats on the carpet. I didn't soak it and rinse it like greg, but just severl light coats with drying time in between. The results were excellent, so it stands to reason that it would also work well in Greg's situation. I wish I would have known you were changing green grills to brown. I have a pair of those green grills on walnut Cornwalls, that I really love. My wife even likes the green color! I would love to have another pair of those green grills. I also have a pair of oak oil Corns with brown grills, just like in your picture. I would have gladly traded them for green. Those oak and brown Corns look reallly nice, I honestly don't care for the color combo on mine , but it looks great on yours. Thanx for sharing the great info with us! Jeremy
  12. I've got a B&K Ref 4430 that I really like. I bought it used in the $400-500 range off of Audiogon. It is a 200+watt 3 channel amp. I have it in the rack right next to a B&K Ref 200.5. They both sound fantastic with RF-7 and RC-7. I can swith back and forth between the 2 amps and not tell the difference. B&K makes some very warm sounding dynamic high current amps. I highly recommend them. Your RF-7s will thank you for it Jeremy
  13. Boy, I sure would like to hear that Altec/Edgar horn set-up. It looks pretty slick! Jeremy
  14. Can you even get (1) of those JBL's for Gilbert's $18K cap? I thought they were around 60K for a pair. Maybe i'm wrong.
  15. My dad lives in Flippin and suffered no damage, but he went to Gassville to survey the damage. He told me the town is about all gone. He took some pictures and e-mailed them to me. It's just unbelievable. He heard there was one death in Gassville. I pray for all of the people in that town, and wish them a speedy recovery. We had a freak tornado here in Northern IL last month. It started about 2 miles NE of my home and continued on a 15 mile path that took out several homes and a local landmark apple orchard. There were only a few injuries and fortunately no deaths. It passed within 1/4 mile of my Grandparents home. This has really been a bizarre winter for weather. Jeremy
  16. Here is a link to his site, which has alot of SAE info. http://wardsweb.org/audio/index_audio.html Jeremy
  17. I believe Luther "WardsWeb" has a rack of SAE equipment. At least he did at one time. I think! Jeremy
  18. I really like Minwax High Performance wood filler for a job like yours. It is basically bondo for wood. Jeremy
  19. I believe the 3910 has better DAC's and a better power supply.I looked at both and could not justify the price difference. I went with the 2910 and it has been fine for me. Jeremy
  20. Thanx Amy for saving me a Saturday afternoon. Maybe their idea of a preview is to look at pictures or talk about them. I think I was the 1st to jump to the conclusion that we would be able to actually hear these things. Jeremy
  21. I got the same flyer yesterday. I am going to try to swing it, so I can hear those Palladiums! Maybe we can have a little Klipsch get together there. Jeremy
  22. Welcome from another Northern Illinois boy. We should do a Chicago/Northern IL get together some time. There are plenty of us on here. Jeremy
  23. Thanx for taking the time to write that up. Good job! Jeremy
