  1. JC, Where do you recommend getting the crossover parts. This looks like something I want to build. I would be using Gothovers Fastrac midhorn and Bob's tweeters. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My wife actually likes the footprint of the Khorn bettern than the cornwall, I just didn't have the right corners for Khorns and this is right up my alley. 2. I am a skeptic for the most part. One insomnia evening I was flicking through the channels and I saw the P90X infomercial. It looked pretty good, so I went ahead and purchased it. It was probably the best 140 dollars I ever spent. I am 5'6" and when I first bought it I weighed almost 170lbs, had had two vertabrae fused and was in the worst shape of my life. I have stuck with the program, now I am back down to 145, very fit, I don't take vicodin for my back very often anymore, my BP is down and I am sure my cholesterol is as well. If anyone has the abiltiy to commit to a program, you will get in fantastic shape. Oh yeah, I also figured out the cure to my insomnia. It turns out I am very sensitive to caffeine. A single cup in the morning prevents me from getting a decent night sleep. Ever since taking all caffeine out of my diet, my sleep has returned. So, if anyone out there suffers from it, it may be worth a try, I am sure I am not the only one who is hyper sensitive to caffeine.
  3. Craig, No, it was not the originals that came with the VRD's. One of them quit a couple of years ago, so I just got a complete matched quad, and those are the ones that were bad. One of the original KT88's died a couple of years ago, so I just replaced them all with a matched quad and it was that set that was bad. I just thought about it, I can't believe I have had them for around 4 years now. Since getting into this music endeavor over the last 41/2 years I have had alot of gear, multiple pre's, TT's,CD players, speakers......the VRD's have been the one constant in my setup, I guess it is a testament to the amps and the builder.
  4. Yepper, that is exactly what I have. Actually I have a hodgepodge. The bad one has the side getter, another has a side getter as well and is silvering, and two are of the new type without the side getter. They were a matched quad, but apparently of different styles.
  5. I have been running the Genalex reissues for 8 months now and they have been fantastic. Sonically I haven't really noticed a tremendous difference, but they seem to be more steady, as I have only had to bias them a couple of times, whereas the last bunch on Valve Arts were all over the place. From my understanding though the VA's are more reliable once again. I have to be honest with the lights out I love the blue glow of the Valve Arts and the fact that it saves me a few bucks compared to the Genalex reissues.
  6. Hey JC, what tubes did you put in your C220?
  7. FWIW, I ran VRD's with a EAD pre for the longest time and loved it. Granted I was not using my TT then. Now I have gone to a MAC c220 and am very happy. I have been told that if you are going to mix SS and tubes that is the way to do it. There is a guy in the garage sale letting a pair of walnut VRD's go for 1650 shipped. I do not think you could do any better in the price range you are looking at. I now use VRD's, the C220 and a MCD 201. My buddy has the same setup except for a MC275 and I don't think his system is any better than mine. I guess this is somewhat of a plug for Craig's amps, but they really are very good amps and to get a pair right now for that price.......
  8. I did this to mine when I had them, and to me the bass was diminished. I was also told afterwards that you still need the false corner for proper wave propogation, I don't know if taht is correct or not, but I do know that when I just sealed them, the bass was lacking
  9. Battle of the cheap amps...........need cheap booze........Mad Dog 20/20!!!!!!!![+o(]
  10. For me it was a busy year: Almost got rid of my VRD's, glad I didn't, but the best change probably has to be getting my Marantz SA 8001. This year I think I am going to go to a music server of sorts: Wadia 170i, 120G ipod loaded using apple lossless and a PS audio DAC. I had multiple other changes (Tannoy System 15's) Sony BDP 550, Denon 3808ci and Emotive XPA-3.
  11. Thanks, I they are a bit narrow, so I will put them on the outside. Just curious, will putting new xovers and ct 125's have a profound affect with these speakers
  12. Thanks guys. I was getting ready to sell these. I went out to the garage/shop where they are hooked up to do some cleaning. I put on a CD (Celtic Woman), and it just seemed to me to be very revealing, so much so I am questioning my Tannoy System 15's. I am going to bring the Cornwalls into the house tomorrow and give them a good listen. I have too many speakers and some have to go.
  13. On my vertical cornwalls, should the tweetrs be oriented inboard or out? I hadn't given them a good listen to in a while and was pleasantly surprised how they sounded. I may just have to get in touch with Bob Crites for tweeters and xovers.
  14. I agree with DeanG, and we discussed this in another thread. I had my HT hooked up to a HK avr 430, and with the RF-83's, RC-64 and RB-61's I felt no need to have a sub, so I sold it. I recently upgraded to a 3808ci and the first thing I noticed is the bass was not near as authorative compared to my HK, and I fiddled around with many different settings. Dean had suggested the Emotiva, so I bought a XPA-3 and the first thing I noticed is I had my bass back. I don't do much critical listening becuase I have my 2 ch setup, but to me the difference was very noticable. Just my .02
  15. GotHover, I am curious as to how it added more dampening when you already had rubber feet on it? The question is not meant to be sarcastic either, just an honest question.
  16. It was the gun my father always traveled with and the one that was always loaded (all guns are until you personally check them to prove otherwise) in the house for protection. My grandfather carried one in WWI, gave it to my father, and I inherited it when my father passed away. I love it, but I also love my Glock .45 acp I inherited as well.
  17. Have loved mountain biking since I bought my first one in 1984. But dang 25 years of endovers is taking it's toll
  18. I just got back from visiting my family and though I never met OB, I am saddened of his passing. Prayers to his family, Rest in Peace OB.
  19. Islander, Thanks, I did have them mixed up, but honestly did not know that one was associated with DC and the other with AC. I will go do some reading. DeanG, DannG on the Emotiva website is not your alter ego is it?
  20. Dean, Thanks for the explanation, it answers alot of questions. I just spent my "mad" money on some Tannoy system 15's, but when I sell either my Cornwalls or system 12's I will look into a good 3 ch. amp. The one thing that I still don't get: I thought impedance is the total resistance in a circuit, which I also thought was constant. What actually causese the impedance to lower, maybe I need to reexamine my ohms law.
  21. Kdonn, I have RF 83's and I love them. I have a HK avr 430 that I used for HT. The RF83's had a ton of bass. Then I recently "upgraded" to a Deon 3808CI for all the 1080p HT stuff I have. The first thing I noticed with the Denon is that the RF 83's didn't have the low end punch that they did with my HK. I am not sure why, but I know the HK's emphasize high current over pure wattage and that may have something to do with it, someone correct me if I am wrong, but trust me it is the denon not the RF 83's. I actually sold my sub when I had them hooked up to the HK becuase I didn't feel I needed it, now I wish I had the sub back.
  22. Yikes, sorry I missed that one, usually I check my spelling, and I think the grill cloth is stapled on. Heck I still have the original paperwork stapled to the back of one of them. I am actually considering selling them, but am not sure yet.
  23. I have Vertical Cornwalls, Oiled walnut and the speaker grills are not removable, does that make them decortators?
