  1. Isn't all of television getting this way. Channels devoted to talking heads arguing about petty political stories, others with women yelling at each other, and shows where some "judge" of a contest is a coked out freak that is between suicide attempts is berating some 19 year old kid. I trid to watch the olympics but could not make it through any of it. One small event then 20 minutes of crap. You hit the nail on the head, I cn't hardly watch any of the sports channels anymore because it's all BS and very little game/event:-( Everything is a PTI anymore:-0
  2. "The narrow slot in front of the La Scala woofer increases the airspeed at the start of the bass horn, and allows a regular cone driver to act like a compression driver. Horn speakers have a lot of sophisticated engineering, which is not always obvious when you're looking at a pair of black-painted plywood boxes." Awesome Islander, I say this to myself evey time I'm listening to my big black boxes
  3. I love how much Mark fires up the passion some have for this hobby that no one is really an authority in but so many like to think they are! It's pretty easy to listen to something you like and buy then enjoy the music. I treat audio just like video, I went back several times to Best Buy and watched every 50" LCD and Plasma model until I determined what I considered the best picture and bought it and have enjoyed it for 4 years now and who cares if anyone else likes it or thinks their's is better. Nothing but ego going now, I bought the 50" store brand a couple years later and we love that one as well, wife's TV and she loves it because it's brighter which it is but I/We enjoy both of them. I have two separate systems in the Man Cave and realize what both are and what both are strong and weak at but love them both. Buy what you like, enjoy what you buy and who cares what others think they know:-)
  4. Tom, you are always so diplomatic with these things, you are not an insurance mediator are you
  5. Go Boxx Go I know if I could drop $5K right now I would be all over them myself! I thought a couple pages back Tim was going to jump on them but those pm's passed and now you could be the new caretaker
  6. Nice looking amps Brac/Justin. EveAnna's stuff is well documented Like that RP3 Brac, I have an RP1 on my Klipsch rig and it replaced a Music Hall MMF2.2 and the RB (even the 101) arm just destroys the Project arm IMHO. Looks like you are enjoying the music and after all that is why were here My good buddy here locally bought the RP40 which is basically your table pumped up a little, he has that nice Groove Tracer sub platter/delrin platter (nice upgrades which I highly recommend)
  7. Well my solution for that one was KNOBS of the non-metalic kind
  8. Yessir, the key to all our toys is a balancing act between value and budget. If I hit the power ball and I might have that T-REX system from BAT but my common sense and wanting not to blow my fortune completely would still keep me from paying $3K for 4 foot of copper LOL
  9. Yes and no, I know and have heard the Luxman is worth (IMHO) $2.5K more than the Jolida however I can't justify nor probably hear a $2.9K difference in those two wires. Heck I'd rather spend more money on tubes and rolling than over priced wire
  10. Yeah Schu, I'm about to sell the Jolida in favor of this Luxman combo for my Las.
  11. Love this topic Mark, I just want someone to help me justify the cost of this 4 foot piece of copper http://www.musicdirect.com/p-62948-shunyata-anaconda-zitron-power-cable.aspx?source=igodigital& When for $596.00 less I could have this http://www.musicdirect.com/p-50381-luxman-sq-n10-tube-integrated-amp-d-100r-ipod-dock.aspx?source=igodigital&
  12. Great to see you posting Max, hope all is well and I won't discount Tony's opinion at all as I have several portable music rigs (all Apple based right now) but about to branch out with an iBasso DX-50 http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=81 JDS Labs C-5 http://www.jdslabs.com/products/70/c5-headphone-amplifier/ driving CIEM's http://www.jhaudio.com/content/sirens-roxanne which may be your answer to great fitting IEM's http://www.jhaudio.com/collection/why-custom . JHA does have some very good compitition out there as well (check out the Kaiser 10's under acrylic customs, obviously the Kaiser has a place close to my heart already ) http://nobleaudio.com/products/custom/ . If your going to have $20K sunk into your home rig why not travel with a home unit on you! Here's a few portable setups I currently run with IEM's and over the head cans 1st a JDS Labs C421 strapped to a 4th Gen iPod Touch: 2nd a iPod 7th Gen Nano with a Ray Samuels Tomahawk: 3rd and somewhere under that U2 version iPod classic is a Ray Samuels P-51 Mustang:
  13. I'm inclined to believe Viktor at BAT knows a good 6922 as both my VK-3i Pre amp and P5 are loaded with the Sovteks or maybe they just sound good on his gears. Some say Mullard's, some say Amperex or I stumbled on this once The following ubiquitous quote from the TubeMuseum Famous Review of the Best Top 6922 Audio tubes ever. 1) E88CC or CCa Siemens & Halske 1950's to 1960’s D getter or 1960's O getter halo "Rarest and most sought after CCa, has gray or silver shield between plates and Frame-Grid construction. Most realistic sounding holographic soundstage, pure seductive sonic joy, Complex symphonic images emerge effortlessly 2) E88CC or CCa Telefunken West Germany 1960's "Excellent neutral holographic soundstage, vast vocabulary of tone Establishes remarkable layers of harmonics, very rare 3) E88CC or CCa Siemens & Halske A-FRAME construction late 1960's to early 1970's Beautiful open air holographic images, low microphonic tube construction, rare. Sonically Brilliant, Pristine, Musical & Therapeutic 4) E88CC or CCa LORENZ West Germany early 1960's Beautiful open air holographic images, very rare 5) E88CC or CCa VALVO Heerlen Holland 1960's Real sonic holography, extremely rare 6) E88CC or CCa Siemens single stem halo early 1970’s Fast & Accurate reproduction of tonal tapestries. Excellent performance, smooth highs, outstanding 3-D holographic soundstage, lots of open-air, inner detail, and overall perfect resolution and balanced sound. Improved dynamics, frequency extension across the spectrum are immediately obvious, making the music sound much more accurate and real. A major improvement over other E88CC / 6922 Audio tubes in general need to settle-in to the new environment, and get better with 'burn-in'. With the Siemens Halske E88CC you are going to hear ALL the frequencies passing through your system, the more sensitive the tube the more you will hear. You are using AUDIO GRADE tubes with the Siemens E88CC, which have a sonic-signature that reproduces not only the 'odd’ harmonics (1-3-5 etc.) but also the 'even' harmonics (2-4-6 etc.) The new tubes made today in China and Russia only reproduce 'odd' harmonics - that’s why everyone upgrades to a vintage made tube made decades ago when these rare 'earth-metals' were available in the inner construction of the vintage tube - now these metals are too expensive to use and today’s tube-makers have found cheaper substitutes which seem to work but do not reproduce all the nuances and textures in music. ... 14. I think so Bruce, they gave me 7/11 over on the Las bass thread recently and I guess if you have my room and setup there is plenty bass for music
  15. Those horns on his avatar are there for a reason LOL You are not the only one in the Pied Pipers trail, IB Slammin' and Seti have bigger one too now
  16. Hmm, both had a lot of sucking just in different formats
  17. You ever thought about putting springs and dampeners in that suspended Turntable? Such a cool mounting! Well I guess I could oBo but as is you can be right in front of that rack jumping up and down (that is 235lbs in my case) and that Soundsmith tracks like a train on tracks going across a flat desert! THX Boxx, I'm liking this configuration and what I really like about this Dayton mount is it swivels so the wife can get her out of season clothes and Christmas boxes out of those storage closets in the back:-)
  18. Well I finally got rid of the 27" thousand pound CRT boat anchor that sat on the Man Cave floor in favor of my new 40" LCD. Even though she could care less about my room I got WAF!
  19. For music Las are just fine on bass, I'm happy with their performance. Even with this short iPhone clip you can tell they convey decent bass. Maybe their shortfall is being driven with 10 Jolida watts as opposed to a pair of Bob Carver 305WPC amps. I always feel like people just want to beat on the Las because they sound so good, I accept Colin's answer but no one else's
  20. Yes, I see what you mean about Las having poor bass Cha Cha Cha.MOV
  21. Nice looking ride Wuz, neat color however green is the only color I've ever associated with Kona
  22. +1 Thad, good observation of a long drawn out example/s. The finest thing any guest has ever said of listening on my system is "IT SOUNDS SO REAL" and afterall is that not what we all want? So today "I have a dream" to enjoy the music once again. Another fun thread full of personality, passion and maybe a little sarcasm
  23. Now I don't want to say I'm a Fanboy, OK, I'm a Fanboy http://balanced.com/products I just love Viktor's work, pick one, any of them and they are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. Man they sound terrible too
