  1. Just make sure all four "poly" 8" woofers are working, as those seem to be the driver that poops out first. I found a dead driver in my pair and it was not very easy to tell that it was inoperative. You can usually find a single replacement on ebay if needed for about $25 each, if you are a good shopper and patient. Good Luck!
  2. I've been buying some older stuff from itunes, namely Axel Rudi Pell, and The Angels (aka Angel City), where they just added a whole slew of bonus track albums at ridiculously low prices. NP - Saxon - The Eagle Has Landed
  3. I have RF 3's with the same problem. I was able to use a hot-melt glue gun and reattach my pegs, but can't vouch for the long term solution. With all the complaints on broken pegs, I would consider that a design flaw from the get-go. NP - Motorhead - Motorizer
  4. Yeah, just a slight affliction. I check C-List several times per day. I did find a very cheap pair of 5.2's last month that were just 5 miles down the road from me. My best deals have been at garage sales, and have been lucky to try out various speaker brands on cheap. In any case, Klipsch is my favorite and would still like a pair of KLF 30's and/or Cornwalls sometime down the road. Or maybe some Altecs, or ADS, not real picky. Prior to the 5.2's, I found a nice pair of Koss CM/1030's, and those were only a mile from me. So, if they are local, cheap, and I can sneak 'em past my better half, Iemme at 'em! NP - Golden Earring - To the Hilt
  5. Why do you need to use paypal with Craigslist - I thought this was for items for sale local - where you bring the cash and hand over the merchandise? With over 1000 posts on the Klipsch forum, you'd a thunk everybody and their unborn children know about the Nigerian scams.
  6. In memory of the faith healer, the "Sensational Alex Harvey Band" Check out some of the ancient live gigs on youtube!
  7. I can't help you with your questions, but I also saw your posts on the AK forum. Are you sure the problem is with the speakers or maybe the room, or the source instead? Hate to see you waste money and muck up a perfectly fine speaker. But hey, if you want to throw some green at it, good luck with that.
  8. I have both models, and for version ones, for $400, I'd buy them. The CF's have a larger field of sound in my room. They can be a bit on the bright side, and not as much bass as the Forte 2. CF's are large, and are hard to muscle around if you like to rotate your speaker stock. Could overwhelm a small room. Are the CF's a step up? I like to think so, but I think you can find similar sound in a smaller package. I would never have purchased the CF models anywhere near their original selling price, so it is nice to be able to pick these and other CF's up at cheap prices and see what the hoopla was all about.
  9. It's better to burn up than to fade away. If all you need to do in drag racing is to press the gas down and hold on to the steering wheel for 5 seconds, why couldn't they do it by remote control, without risking human life? My guess is that would be kind of boring as the fans like explosions and crashes. See, some fans have witnessed a death in a sport and they have the memory burnt into their synapses. Life is good!
  10. You need to goto AUDIOKARMA.ORG for Marantz problems. So, what kind of Klipsch do you have - "that's" what we are good at! NP - Uriah Heep Live
  11. Sounds like of the common problems with many klipsch subs that go south - amplifier problems. Can you give it a few light whacks with a rubber hammer? NP - The Cult - Electric
  12. $750 up to 1000/pr is my vague guess. I'd be worried about shipping, unless it's on a pallet. The one "downside" of having large speakers. In any case, good luck with your sale, I know I see frequent postings of people still looking for these models.
  13. No Creedence, tho, huh? That's a bummer. NP - MONSTER MAGNET - 4-Way Diablo
  14. I don't have much music from 2007 yet, but enjoy TYPE O NEGATIVE "Dead Again". As with most of their recordings, they pack it full to the brim with Klipschtastic sound.
  15. I seem to remember that the earliest version had the longer ports, about 6" long. I have a pair of version 3 CF-4's, and they sound fine. I think they were priced too high back in the mid 90's, at $2500/pr list. Wehn they discontinued them, they were going out the door at less than 1000/pr. The KLF models to follow were a little cheaper, and were more of a rock speaker, using similarly sized drivers in a different configuration. NP - Life of Agony - Best of
  16. From what I could find out from their homepage, and seeing various incarnations of these selling on ebay, I'd be inclined to think these are a variation of the white van speaker scam. If you read the warranty, it is for only one year, parts & labor, and they'd want you to send everything to them except the enclosure. Overpriced junk in my estimation.
  17. Of the various Klipsch speakers that I have, my 89 Heresy's don't sound all that great either. Once I added a subwoofer, the sound was much more pleasing, and seemed to have a better balance in my 11 x 18 carpeted basement room. I've had them in corners, up on stands, tilted up, pointed in, but found that I needed the sub for them to perform. Unfortunately, poor recordings often sound much worse on Klipsch speakers, probably because they are so efficient and reveal warts in the performance. You got a great deal @ $100, and hope you can make them work for you, as they can sound good, as many will attest. NP - Scatterbrain - Here Comes Trouble
  18. For $450/pr, that sounds like a good price. I think your room would be fine, altho they may look very large in it, as I have Forte's in a 11 x 18 room, but they sound great. I would think that any type of walnut or oak veneered speaker cold be repaired, like fine furniture. If they are painted black, no problem. You will not need stands for these speakers. If there are any rear ports or drivers on the rear of the cabinet, you do need some space behind them I would hope that you can listen to them at audition, but remove the grilles and check each driver for wear, or punctures, and carefully listen to each driver, while blocking the others. Blown tweeters are tough to catch, but some of the replacement parts are not available. I would hurry up and get over there prnto, offer $300, and you got yourself a fine pair of speakers.
  19. Since a Forte is basically just a Heresy w/bass, why not just get a subwoofer for add'l depth? I rotate both of these combinations around in my dungeon and the sub w/Heresy's is very good.
  20. My wife spends w-a-y more on her hobbies and computer stuff in one year than I have spent on audio in the past 10. I have purchased many used Klipsch & other speakers for her but she hasn't thanked me for any of them, and thinks we're just a bunch of nut cases on the many audio forums I frequent. If I have to buy her something to keep the peace, I'll move out and get me a girl friend who likes Klipsch speakers. NP - Waltari - Blood Simple
  21. I think 4-500 dollars for a used pair of Heresy's, from the original owner, who probably paid less than $750 when new, is too much. For that price, you can get nice Fortes. As a general rule, pay only 20 to 33% of original retail on used speakers. Are you aware that Heresy's can be bass shy ?
  22. Concerning the rattle on the KLF30's, did you check the front or rear panel? There was a batch of these that had poor glue adhesion, in some cases, the front or rear panel came loose entirely. Liquid nails was the recommended fix, if you're into repairing first. Good luck with your sale. NP _ Icky Thump
  23. I heard about doping the woofer on AK also. I have a pair of 1968 KLH Six that has the waxy/oily woofer surrounds, and I believe this was recommended as the old coating would dryout/wear off. I have not done it as of yet.
  24. VJBoxer - any update yet on the Quartet's? It probably wouldn't hurt to post what area of the country you are in - maybe someone on the board has some cheap Klipsch to sell (as my wife has been hinting!) Boomac - I'll keep the Milwaukee visit in the back of my mind - yes, I'm just 100 miles north. The calendar is always changing up here.
  25. Sounds like the amp burnt up. I'd call Klipsch to see if they have any idea of repair; my guess is that you had a good 7 years on that sub and may be time to upgrade if the cost to fix is too much. Good entry level subs from various manufacturers start at $300. Some other forum member in the sub forum just had a fuse go out in his KWS-10. Hopefully he has better luck on "his" blown fuse!
