  1. Onecall.com is indeed on Klipsch's authorized dealers list. [Y] http://www.klipsch.com/where-to-buy/online/
  2. I was reading the Oppo BD manual and it also has the ability to play media from a USB HDD or thumbdrive. It's not a media extender like the PS3, but that effectively gets around the one big advantage the PS3 has - being able to play my movies and music from my PC through the stereo. Since I'm not into console games and would be looking at the PS3 as a BD player / media extender more than a game console, the playback quality of the Oppo puts it solidly in first place on my "must have" list. Now to find the money. It doesn't help that my current job is going away in a few weeks. I'm in a contract position that is being cancelled and they're hiring someone to do the job internally. I, and others, are applying for it. If I get the job - [<)]. If not... [:'(]
  3. The Oppo has an Ethernet connection for BD-Live. Can it play media over a network like the PS3 can? The PS3 being able to play network files and web browse adds some extra points in favor of the PS3.
  4. I'm a bit confused. The Outlaw 970 doesn't have HDMI. I take it you're using an HDMI to DVI connection for the video, plus an S/PDIF digital connection for audio? Is your PS3's Digital Out set for PCM or Bitstream output? My 970 was only doing ProLogic decoding at first, until I switched the output to Bitstream, and then it automatically detected Dolby Digital 5.1 and selected the proper decoding. BIG improvement in sound and dynamics. (I'm pretty sure it was Bitstream. My DVD player only has the two options - so I used the "other" one [] ) Double check that before you give up on your Outlaw. If you have any questions or problems, check out the Outlaw Audio Saloon or Support forum. They can answer any questions you have and offer support for any technical issues.
  5. I'm loving these! If you get any suitable pics, how about some in 1920x1200? [H]
  6. On my RF-7s I used to run a QSC PLX-2402 amp. 425 W/ch and it was not bothered at all by that impedance dip. Incredible amp. My curent amp is an Outlaw 7500, 200 W/ch on 5 channels. I haven't done an A/B comparison between the two, but they both make my 7s sing and both will drive louder than I'm comfortable listening to. It may be overkill on the power, but I've got HEADROOM, BABY!! [H] I can highly recommend both the Outlaw and QSC. Both are great quality and not expensive at all for what you get.
  7. Technically, both the earth and moon are each moving away from the other, but it doesn't matter. Should the moon's orbit change dramatically, or break free of earth's orbit, it would devastate our environment. Watch Space 1999. []
  8. I love watching any space launches. It's just amazing. I can't wait until this August. NASA's planning the first test flight of Ares. [8-|]
  9. It seems many GM dealers are trying to grab every buck they can before GM goes belly up. I'm a life long GM owner, but if I were looking for a new car today, especially an SUV, I'd look at Ford. My grandfather owned a Lincoln Mercury dealership back in the 50's-'60's. Even so, today everytimg I deal with a dealer, either sales or service, I feel sullied and unclean afterwards. They're some of the slimiest, dishonest people I've ever met. I have more faith in politicians.
  10. And the circle of life continues. ..
  11. Some people have no sense of humor. That's why I'm very glad I work with some exceptional people. Intelligent, skilled, but they don't take themselves too seriously, either. (well, most of them) Our Help Desk manager keeps a musical magic wand at his desk to make anyone's problems disappear. He also uses Sponge Bob Squarepants as customer service training. Serious. If you ever watch it, he's all about customer service. The only real down side is my team lead has no social skills or sense of humor, and an incredibly high opinion of himself. But, if it's just one person like that, I count myself lucky.
  12. I'm debating between the Oppo and a PS3. They both have optical and HDMI connectivity, so I'm covered either way. The PS3 is a bit cheaper, and has the advantage of being able to play games. Decisions, decision. Oh, and I got my invite from Oppo, too. Now, what can I sell to get $500 real quick? [^o)]
  13. Science has shown that CO2 can raise temperature. What it hasn't shown is to what degree. Is our man made CO2 pouring gas on a flame, or is it a fart in a hurricane? Peeing in the ocean can be scientifically shown to raise sea levels, but I don't see people panicing about impending floods because of it. Research I've seen on public access suggests that temp and CO2 are indeed related, but not in the way the GW experts would have you believe. In periods of warming, there was a rise in atmospheric CO2 *after* the warming period. CO2 levels dropped back off after cooling periods. The one thing most GW "experts" (including Al Gore) keep mistaking is that correlation does not equal causation. With sensors placements like this, it's no wonder they can get data saying the earth is warming. http://www.norcalblogs.com/watts/2007/05/how_not_to_measure_temperature.html Just look at the concern of Dihydrogen Monoxide: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4534017/
  14. I agree, the RS speakers are better for HT. You want direct radiating speakers like the RB-75 for multi-channel music.
  15. I'm running RS-62's with my RF-7's and they work great. I don't have quite as big a room, but they do a good job. I'll probably add some direct radiating rear speakers for more music, but my main use for the room is HT.
  16. Paint my cherry 7's? Heaven forbid! []
  17. The most important thing to check is the college's accreditation in your degree field. Find out of the accreditation they have is recognized by the business or other universities you're interested in. Many online universities are not accredited and are little more than diploma mills. The gray area comes in with colleges that are accredited, but is that accreditation nationally or internationally recognized?
  18. "Real" movie theaters use monopole surrounds - sometimes. Some of them use bipole or dipole designs. The Klipsch KPT-8-VB uses 2 horns and a single woofer in a very similar configuration to the RS-7. Lots of "real" movie theaters also have mono sound systems or crap for stereo systems. A theater I used to manage had really nice Voice of the Theater stage speakers, and the crappiest, tinyest surrounds I've ever seen. Huge change in sound quality as the sound went from front to back. But it was a "real" movie theater. Mono-,di-, and bi-pole speakers just give you more options. Some are better suited to fewer speakers in smaller rooms, while some are better suited to large rooms and multiple speakers.
  19. I miss my Canon A1. I was never more than a casual novice, but I really enjoyed using a nice 35mm SLR. I guess it's kind of like tubes - it may be more expensive and more trouble, but when it's right - it's beautiful.
  20. I'll have to try the Booker's sometime. My standard drink is George Dickel. Their Barrel Select is one of my favorites.
  21. Mine showed up today, except I wasn't here to sign for it. So I have to play tag with FedEx. *grumble* *grumble* Stoopid FedEx. []
  22. I use RS-62s with my RF-7's and they do very nicely. If you are looking for a wide dispersion speaker, they're probably the closest match to the RF-7's that Klipsch still sells new.
  23. It does seem you need lots of power for the RF-7 bass. I've run mine with 100w consumer receiver, added a QSC amp and noticed a BIG improvement in sound. I've recently replaced the QSC with an Outlaw Audio 7500 (200w/ch) and they also drive the 7's really well. I haven't done an A/B comparison yet, though. I'm not familiar with your tube amp, but does it have different connections for 4 ohm and 8 ohm connections? If so, I'd try 4 ohm connections to the bass and power the treble with 8 ohm connections and see if that helps. RF-7's are beasts - but you gotta feed the beast. []
