  1. Well it sounds like Emo must be low quality! Hmmm... I am quite happy with my XPA-5, no hiss and a much fuller sound than my Marantz 8500(top of the line for that year). I'm sure there is better out there but you may get to the point of diminishing returns with extra money spent. I have been wanting to try parasound as well and finally took the plunge on their Z series for the bedroom. They suggest their Zcd with their Zamp so thats what I went with. I run it in a mono as they describe in their manual and I get a lot of noise. It turns out that it is isolated to the Zcd's variable anolog out and was present on two units ordered. Parasound had no cure for this issue. I used a 6db attenuator which makes it tolerable. Good luck with your solution!
  2. Well I can not add anything to the RF discussion as I have owned a pair I can comment on the 7 vs 35 issue. If you just end up enjoying the 35's more don't get caught up in thinking that you are settling for a lesser speaker. Go with what makes you happy. I went through the I need bigger and better for several years but keep coming back to the KLF 10's. Most prefer the 20's and 30's, I am certainly in the minority with my opinion. For me it was also a harshness issue and for me the better balanced speaker won out.
  3. Mine is a picture that got me out of a BS restraining order. Glad I did not have to produce it in court! The fun times of divorce, we actually get along now better than ever, but the picture remains as a reminder for me not to put my hands inside the cage........
  4. Hey Bill, Life is blessed down here in the south end! I hope you and your family are well. I would expect your Yamaha and Klipsch to sing together as they are high on the food chain! Before Sound Advice went under I remember being so excited to audition the KLF 20s after a great review in Stereo Review. I took in a few discs including some SRV and the salesman kept raising the volume until I had to reach over and shut it down. They pushed the Yamaha and all of it's different "hall" soundfields. I far much prefered the Sony ES and opted in that direction. I still perfer the KLF 10s over their bigger brothers and that is what I listen to today. If I head up that way I will let you know as I would love to hear your many setups! Mike
  5. Interesting to read the different opinions on Onkyo and Marantz. I swithed from Onkyo to Marantz due to the sound. I found the Onkyo to be flatter, almost dry(read boring). The Marantz I currently use seems more capable of bringing the music alive. I would not say harsh at all as I feel Yamaha with Klipsch is harsh or too bright. I remember going into "Sound Advice" and them pairing Klipsh with Yamaha, drove me right out of the room. Of course I am on of the few that perfer the 2-way over the 3-way in the KLF line so maybe that is part of the reason that I persive the Marantz as more Musical?
  6. JL Audio works for me. I drive a gen 2 Scion Xb with subs under the front seats. I run 6W3v3-4 in a JL recomended sealed enclosure of .15 cubic' and F3 of 34hz. I run an Alpine amp speced at 350wpc mono. Clean, tight and tactile. And with them located up front the bass does not was out with the windows down. It won't compete with the mega watt, high displacement setups but it does provide a very balanced system. I run the JL 6.5 C3 system up front at 100 wpc. Sweet to me!
  7. Thanks for your input russ, it sounds like you did not have a good experience. I will certainly reach out to you before I re-marry!
  8. russ69, just checking the thread, what do you have to add please?
  9. +1 for Marantz with Klipsch. I have a SR8500 that I have used with Chorus II, Quartet and KLF-10s. I prefer it over previously owned Pioneer, Sony ES and Onkyo AVRs. Currently it is just being used as a pre/pro as I am using an outboard Emotiva amp. For that reason I would certainly look for one with the pre outs.
  10. Thanks guys, I will purchase today.
  11. I am considering picking up the Parasound Z ampV3 and the Z CD player for the bedroom. It has a smaller form factor at 9.5"s wide and it is made to work together without a pre and the CD has an input for a phone, etc. The amp can be run in mono at 90 wpc which would work for my set up. I plan on using a single KLF-10. Does anybody have an experience/comments on the Parasound Z series or Parasound in general? Thanks
  12. Attached are two pictures of the KLF-10 center. Hope it helps.
  13. I tried a 10 on its side and it did not function well. I believe with the length of the cabinet along with the two way set up, tweeter all the way at one end did not produce desirable results. The dialog was not tied to the TV at all. I could see how a Quartet with it's physical set up would produce better results. I would not stray from the original design much. Klipsch factored in all of the componenets as well as cabinet volume for the original optimized design. Changing the lay out of the motorboard for a horizontal placement should work fine though. The horizintal postion of the horn as well as lifting towards the top of the cabinet certainly helps with the off axis listening.
  14. I made a center from a KLF-10. I purchased a single that had a loose motor board and remade it with the tweeter center and high and the woofers to the sides. Nothing short of amazing but very large. Someone on here has done the same with a KLF-30. I currently do not have a pic to post but will work on that in the next day or two. Do not turn it on it side as is and expect good results.
  15. I would certainly go for the 10's at that price, I would consider them a steal. I am partial as I run three systems with them. I just let a pair of 30's go. When I compared the 10's vs the 30's on the same track with adjusted volume levels to match sound level the 10's bass was actually more tactile. Another Klipsch head agreed although he preferred the 30's mids. Certainly verify the cabinet integrity as the front and rear panels do come loose to to poor construction but it is an easy fix. I certainly recommend Bob C's Ti tweets as well, they do open up the top end.
  16. I use the Emo XPA-5 with an older set of KLF-10s. I was using a Marantz 8500 avr and now use it just as a pre. I was blown away at the diffence the seperate amp made, specifically in the thightness of the bass. No hum or hiss issues.

    Space Mountain

Space Ship Earth is the globe at Epcot, no comparison to Space Mountain and Epcot was not open the first years of the Magic Kingdom. The combination of Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, etc. is actually called Disney World. The space flight simulator was called Mission to Mars if I recall. Growing up in FL, I am sure I have been to DW 30+ times. It always seems to have something new to offer along with the prices! I liked it as a child, it is also a popular date place. Since I went as a child I also have gone with he nieces and now my children.
  18. Michael, This is Mike that took your empty cornwall cabinets. I have an interest in you cornwalls. Please pm me your number. Thanks.
  19. I would certainly pick up the C7 to match your 10s. Don't even think about replacing them with the RF-3s, that would be a step backwards IMHO. The 10s are certainly not a week link for theater. A quick swap to the Bob Crites Ti tweets is a nice mod for the KLF series. The addition of the proper center will make all of the difference to the front end. The 20s and 30s would be considered an upgrade over the 10s by many, for pure home theater you may not feel the difference is worth it. If you do change you fronts to the RF-7 you would want to change your center to the RC-7. Good luck with the build!
  20. Thanks for the information gentlemen. So does the resistor just reduce the signal or does it actually play into the impeadence as well?
  21. I have had all three and my favorites are the 10s. The 20/30s are 3 ways so I feel that the mids are much more in your face, enough to say that after listening for any period of time my ears hurt. I have 30s in the garage now and am going through the should they stay or should they go dilema. I have had Chorus IIs and quartets(3-ways also) with no such issue so I guess the drivers/circuits are significantly different. That being said I am sure that I am in the minority in my preference. I also had a set of the KG5.5 which appear to be almost identicle to the 10. I feel that my 10s ran circles around them though.
  22. Klipsch klf 10 schematic net.pdf Although I have refurbished a few of the KLF-10 crossovers, I am looking for a better understanding of what does what. The 10 is speced with a 2300hz crossover point. I am trying to figure out what formulas have been used to arrive at that. I have googled every which way I know to find a simple formula on a second order low-pass circuit with the load being 8 ohms and all the charts I have found show the components to have greatly different values than the schematic. My assumption is that this is a second order butterworth circuit? Also, what does the resistor do in the hi-pass circuit, just knock down the signal or is there more to it? Thanks for the education!
  23. I am currently running a 6.5" set of reference surrounds, not sure of the model. The LCR are from the KLF series. Over the years I have used ran the Ref surrounds with Chorus IIs, Quartets and Zu Omen Defs. I am in the camp that the surrounds do not have to match the LCR. For the puriest I am sure there is a benifit but I am OK with it.
  24. I run in ceiling surrounds. About 1.5 feet behind and about 1.5 feet from the side walls. I feel that they are very good for movies. I can't say for music as I really don't care for music in surround.
