  1. I almost get sick of seeing so many people getting "Touch of Color" Samsung LCDs, but they are just so ridiculously good looking that it's impossible! They are backordered at local Best Buys until April. I still hold that the Pioneer plasma line is superior in PQ, but it is nowhere near as good a value as the Samsungs...
  2. Apparently, they like getting together over flashlights as much as we do Klipsch... Not as big as a Pilgrimage, but the concept is the same. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=205904&page=3 If anyone ever calls you a "speaker nerd" ever again, show them that. [6]
  3. The RF-83 was the replacement of the RF-7 at the top of the reference line. I wouldn't compare my RF-82s to RF-7s, the latter is simply much better. The same applies to the RF-5 (Same horn as the RF-7 for one). Now comparing the RF-3 to the RF-82, then you get into apples to apples. Not that those two lines are meant to be congruent.
  4. If that's the case, I would definitely give it a go. I agree with J.4knee, though. Probably not going to sound the greatest. All you can do is try.
  5. I would think that Klipschorns would completely drown out the little Sub10, but it might work ok with Heresys. It's not the most accurate sub, but it gets plenty loud in small rooms, albeit with a serving of boominess. I've seen lots of set-ups with the sub10 and the Quintet III system, and they match just fine. The results for bass quality range from muddy and awful to crisp and beautiful, depending on the placing, mostly.
  6. That pic hurts too much to laugh at... a couple of weeks ago I took a terrific spill whilst taking out the trash, landing all of my 270 lbs directly on my ***-bone (the coccyx). I'm fairly certain I broke it, as I still have a nagging pain there. I'm wondering if I should seek medical advice...
  7. I'm not sure about recovering the passives themselves, my first instinct would say it would be easier/more efficient to buy a new one. You probably won't get many answers in the "Announcements" section, though. I would ask your question in the two-channel forum.
  8. Insulation? Our woodstove is heating our home most of the winter and we can barely get two cords through it. I would never move that much wood or waste that much heat. I have a hard time thinking of the waste from the two cords we burn every year. Ten to Twenty cords in one year? WOW! Greg Well we don't know the size of his house, firstly. Also, and I'm not sure if he's using the same measurement, but a "face cord" is roughly 1/3 of a full cord. But even so, When we heated our 2200 sq. ft house that had minimal insulation, we barely went through 3 cords a year...
  9. That looks like a nice receiver, and I would assume it sounds very nice. Most people go the route of external amplifier when they seek more detail or "horsepower" for home theater. Klipsch does offer an upgrade to the RF-82, it takes the form of another speaker. The RF-63: http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rf-63.aspx and the RF-83: http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rf-83.aspx
  10. I have the RF-82s and I suppose I see the part you are talking about where you can "add" a speaker. I'm not sure what you're thinking of adding though. I wouldn't recommend modifying the speaker physically in any way. There's a 99.999% chance you'll only degrade the sound quality, and you'd also void your warranty. It has also been said that the RF-82 has the "flatest" frequency response of all the Reference line, so it is unlikely that you could help it by yourself, anyway. What sort of sources and amplification are you using?
  11. Don't feel too bad, I had mine plugged in, turned on and volume up - high. I then realized that the computer volume was muted. I unmuted it and was blasted across the room. Don't do that.
  12. Pet insurance? I'm not familiar with the concept...
  13. The jazzy music was played on Chorus IIs using Onkyo 300 wpc (I believe) amps, played through an Oppo DV-980H.
  14. I just got back late last night from the Hudson Valley, on a trip to pick up a Velodyne VA-1512. My buddy Dan and I made the 4 hour trek from central PA to south NY, more than a haul than I was expecting. But it was all worth it when we got there, as I had an amazing "extended heritage" experience. Noah's house is set up like a veritable "Klipsch-topia", everywhere you look is either a Chorus II, Forte, La Scala, etc. It's more than likely how my house would look if I lived by myself. Anyway, Noah put on some fantastic jazz-ish sort of music (help me out here) that really, really excentuated just what PWK was thinking when he said "no distortion."Just cranked up to "stupid loud" with absolutely no signs of stress or even that they were breaking a sweat. He then played us some Outkast, which is very generous in the bass department to say the least. I was convinced that a subwoofer had to be on somewhere in the room. But there wasn't. I was literally shaking in my shoes and the couch was quaking with powerful low frequencies. Just excellent. I even went as far to make the statement that, even though I own a Reference system, it cannot come close to what the heritage line has to offer. Obviously, that's open to all sorts of debate, but it's made my mind up. lol So anyway, after the little listening session, we inspected the goody I was after, the 1512. It was in better condition than I could have hoped and sounded excellent, even when placed in the middle of the parlor-sort of area. An exeptional piece for being almost 12 years old. That wraps up my visit to the empire state, and I must say that HudsonValleyNoah is a great, great guy to deal with and was a very gracious host, even with a crazy "weekend from hell." Dan and I even got a few free premium cigars out of the deal! How is that for generosity? All in all, a great time. Thanks Noah!
  15. I've been watching this whole big-box retailer situation with a vested interest, as I am one of the "boys in blue", albeit on a stricly part-time basis. It's absolutely fair about what everyone says. Many Best Buy employees just don't care at all. They just want a paycheck. Period. I consider myself at least adequate when it comes to sales, as I am always polite and helpful to the point of self-loathing. lol It helps that I work in a small store in a small town where every employee still has a "name and a face." I still think Best Buy has a stormy future ahead though, based on EVERY SINGLE customer "experience" I've heard on the internet. Accurate or not, it needs help. Just my tuppence.
  16. I've had that moment as well with the C3s... One moment where it just "comes together" and the emotional response kicks in fully. I have very odd issues with getting a seal with all of the tips provided, I can get a seal with just about any of them, but they will not stay in for more than 10 minutes or so before popping loose. I just ordered some Comply foam T-100 tips from Amazon to see if they can't fix my seal issues... I guess my ear canal shape is just a genetic oddity...
  17. But you need those Monster ADMI cables to give you the best high density picture!!!
  18. Very nice looking set up, cdoo... You might try posting these pix on the "Let's See YOUR home theater" thread a few pages back. It has most member's home theaters on it. Just an idea.
  19. That is completely awesome. When was it decommissioned?
  20. "Every few slides there was a an old Kodachrome of a bathing beauty which he'd grumble over with a "What's THAT doing in here?" in mock surprise, then move on. It wasn't funny to a couple of hippie college students, but we laughed anyway." I thought it was funny.... Excellent story.
  21. I'm thinking we're all being a bit too jaded here. I think we're nitpicking on what would be nice for us on the page and not what will help Klipsch be really competitive. Klipsch is something special, and the site should emphasize that. I think PWK should become a staple of the page, his face should be seen often. I agree with using vintage ads mixed in with current product. I would have the main page open with a *small* flash animation, starting with a fade-in of PWK's 1950s face, with his classic smirk, and then a fade-in of his quote "First off, I've never considered myself a member of the general public"- or something along those lines.Something to make an impression on a potential customer. The layout of the pages work pretty well already, they just need some "attitude" Some "Klipschtude" if you will.
  22. Come on guys, "Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now"
