  1. Welcome to last week when they filed Chp 11 and they closed down a lot of stores this past weekend.
  2. 120Hz capability is about as useful as a glass door on a toilet. Nice on the spec sheet. Useless in the real world. I would concern...to a degree. I got the LN52A650 right after New Years, which has the 120Hz, or motion blah blah. I have the motion thing turned off for BluRay and HD-DVD. I have it set to low for my HD-DVR from FIOS. It helps a little with the sports, but otherwise isn't really cracked up to be that much. When you get home and play with it... you will see. The guys at store C tried to tell me I needed new "ADMI" cables to utilize the 120Hz feature, otherwise my bluray and HDTV signal wouldn't be as good. I told then no thanks, Im fine with my cables. And they persisted. I told them my cables where 1.3c Category 2 Spec complaint, and they where like whats that. I was like if I have any isses, I'll come back and get your "ADMI" cables. I was walking by TV's in store B and heard the sales guy talking to a customer telling him that the 50,000:1 contrast ratio had to do with how many pixels where in an inch. Anyways. I love my 650 series, you don't even notice the ToC Red on the bezel.
  3. I agree with Youthman here. Atleast give his a shot to sucker him in to demo yours...then see if he still holds his opinion after he demos yours. It's the only way your going to change his mind.
  4. I do believe they have a US version, some dealer on the West Coast if my memory servs. I know Caterham has a dealer in Colorado.
  5. I had a number of people at work think that it was really coming out... Here are two responses to me after sending out the link "oh i like my keyboard...way too much for me" " sucks how the heck can you type its too slow this better be ajoke" []
  6. My cousin came over a few months ago. Was talking about how his friend hd just bought a new Bose surround system and they where watching some movies. He said he was blown away. I was like how much was that? He said something like $2700. I was like, come into my little room, and let me show you $500 computer speakers from Klipsch. I have my Promedia Ultra's hooked up the then 27" LCD HDTV and a HD-DVD player in my little 8x10 room. I put on Transformers DVD and we watched the first 10 minutes or so. I was like, so what you think compared to your buddies Bose system? He was left spechless. A few weeks later we where talking and he was like yeah, you little system kicks some butt. I was like yeah, awesome bang for the buck, can't wait to upgrade. I showed hit the Heresy II setup connected to the Scott 299D amp, and was he loved that too. I will say, Bose does do a great job of marketing, but every time I compare my stuff to someone's Bose....well, I haven't lost yet, be it headphones, stereo, iPod speakers, HT, or even the KHO-7's I have on the boat I get awesome feeback about. I have, and still use a pair of BOSE 141 speakers I got for cheap years ago in my garage, does the dirty work, and well are very dirty and dusty. My car has a Bose system in it...it is nice, but to me it sounds muddy and allmost unnatural compared to the Polk Audio 6X9's I had in my old car, those 6X9's kicked some butt.
  7. To elabortae on wuzzzers response a little. People seem to say around 200W for the THX speakers, but that is mainly for more headroom. The speakers have very dynamic capapbilites and thus can go from quite to loud easily with the propper wattage. You want timbre matched speakers across your front. This allows smooth transition of sound from L to C to R, and anywhere inbetween. Otherwise panning sounds may get colored because you center channel uses different components.
  8. Don't feel bad, my coworkers thought it was real and started an email chain with all the people I sent it too...pretty funny.
  9. Little early ehh? Stock market doesn't close for another 3 minutes.... ....shame I gave up drinking till Superbowl. *sigh* could use one.
  10. From what i read, I think it may be your files. You said you played back the same files on two sources, well the ipc and the iphone. Both of which you experience the pops at the same time. Can you plug the headphones into your PC and see if you still get the pop? Maybe put in the stock headphones and see if you hear it(may not due to lower sensitivity, more background nouise, etc etc). I've used EAC, and I've noticed that some of my rips have more noise in the now that I listen to them via my Pico USB DAC/headphone AMP and the X10's with the source being the PC MP3 or putting it on my iTouch.
  11. I was about to build my own for a while. I was looking at the Millet Hybrid Max. Can build it for around $200 for what they where saying, and it is pretty top notch, yet has room for upgradability and get good reviews. http://www.diyforums.org/MAX/MAXoverview.php Might be worth a look if your up to the task.
  12. Very interesting...I can only see a use for real business, but even then, without abilites to open up excel and powerpoints documents.... ...I think I would take a MacBook Wheel first.
  13. Since the audio is covered. As for the TV, if it is HD, as your saying does 720p/1080i yet has no HDMI inputs, then I'm sure it has atleast one DVI input atleast. Most of the older TV's I have seen had this aside from components. You can get a HMDI to DVI cable and that should allow you to use the reciever as your video switcher as well. Fromt he sounds of it on the forums from my reading. People do hear differences betwene recievers with their setups. Some prefer Yamaha, others Denon or Onokyo. Just a quick search on crutchfield(it was convient for me to pull up)...im sure you maybe able to get cheaper. Marantz SR4003 $549 Yamaha RX-V663 $499 Onkyo TX-SR606 $399 Sony STR-DG920 $449 Denon AVR-1909 $599 Onkyo TX-SR706 $599 If I was to get one today, I would most likely go wth the Yamaha, Denon or Onkyo, but I would need to read into each one a little more. Even if they have some features beyond what you need now. Like the 7.1 HD Master Audio decoding. My other suggestions would be to try looking up on AVSforums. They have some good information.
  14. TGD? The Grateful Dead? lol. Movie has a lot of punch to it, and now with my 52" tv compared the 27" it really shows visually and audio wise.
  15. Look for a Technics SH-AC500D, it what I currently use connected to my Ultra 5.1's, it is a decoder only(premap). It does DD and DTS, but only has 3 optical/coax inputs, which works fine for me. One for my PS3, HD-DVD and HD-DVR. All i need for my video/audio sources. I think you can get them on ebay for under $100 now...works much better then Klipsch DD-5.1 which I have sitting in the closet.
  16. I agree with greg about the freezing cold bombay. As for the vermouth. I put a 1/8 of a cap in the glass, rinse it around and toss out. Gin/Vodka a little dirty with olvies. With one of my drinking buddies I have to do Grey Goose, otherwise I'm all about Bombay. Didn't get one tonight. :-( Just had a Capt Morgan and Gingerale.
  17. haha, and as I look outside my office window watching snow flakes.....darnnit, time isn't moving fast enough. Could use a nice Martini about now.
  18. I know this is a late reply, but maybe someone will see when searching later on. Two real options, and I have done both and use the second one. 1.) Klipsch DD5.1 Decoder unit. Stopped making a long time ago, hard to find. I mainly used when I had the 4.1 setup to get it to work with 5.1 material. Nice box. 2.) Technics SHAC-500 decoder unit. This is what I currently use, and have been using for about 2 years. with my Ultra 5.1's. This does DD and DTS 5.1 decoding, has 2 Toslink and 2 Digital Coax inputs, but 1 of each is shared. So you have 3 inputs to use. I use little 1/8" female to Male RCA Stereo connectors from the output to link to my control pod. I keep the pod at max volume, 80, and do all control via the technics remote. I have my HD-DVD player, PS3 and HD-DVR connected the three inputs, and use a 4x1 Monoproce HDMI switcher to ouput the video to my LCD HDTV. So yes, you will ahve switch audio and video seperately. Ebay is your best bet for to acquire either one.

    Dark Knight

Well finally got to watch it on Blue Ray on my little 27" 720P.... it looked and sounded amazing. Just to compare, a few days prior, saw the DVD version on my friends 55" DLP in 1080i with an upscaler.... not even close in terms of picture quality. Opening Chicago skyline, easy to tell the difference.

Anyone get this on Blu-Ray yet? Awesome movie in IMAX, wonder how it xfer'd over. Been holding off on a Blu-ray player, was thinking of gettin a PS3 and this movie this week.
  21. I'll second pandora. Quality isn't that bad. You could also look into a cheap DAC. My headphone amp, headamp pico has a USB DAC, and I just connect that to my PC, a lot better then my sound card, and pipe it using the 1/8"mini to RCA to my stereo. Works well.
  22. I too rarely vist the General Forums. Just saw this now. Very saddening. My prays are with him and his family. He got me hooked on the Heresy and Scott amp, and he hit it on the head for me.
  23. So, I have my Heresy II's connected to a Scott 299-D. I use the center out(line level) to feed a singal to my subwoofer. Now, sub sounds good. Maybe a little boomy or bassy. I have the crossiver set at 80Hz. Now, I've tried to adjust the level(volume) and its decent, but I like I said, it maybe to loud. For those of you who have similair setups, how do you balance the sub output vs the speaker output. Would using some sort of sweep from like 20-200Hz be the best thing, and I can see if I get a bump when it kicks in/over to the sub. Thanks, Dan
  24. Man, my Promedia 4.1's where loudenough for the dorm room....nevermind ligthing up the entire floor which the girls side could even hear/feel. Couple of weeks ago my cousin came over and was talking about how awesome his friends new top of the line Bose system was. I told him, bleh. Come listen to my little setup and tell me what you think. So I popped in the Transformers DVD on my 26" LCD connected to my Promedia 5.1 Ultra's. Were in a small room, and its like 6' from TV to couch. Well, after opening/attack on the base, I shut it off, and was like, so how would you compare my $400 speakers to your friends Bose? He didn't comment []
  25. $25? Lol. It's $10.50 a ticket by me, and if goto a theatre in NYC, $12-13.
