  1. Yeah, I had to . . . My Professional life ramped up to high speed (in a good way) about the time you were sending out the crossovers on Dean's roadshow. I have been reading the thread once in a while. I will look at what Fritz has done too. Billy
  2. Huh . . . I thought it was simply moving the wires on the terminal from factory connection on the terminal strip.
  3. I have been doing some forum lurking. I have heard that if you change how the internal wiring is connected to the crossover, I it can make a positive change in performance. I have stock K-horns from the early 80s, with K77 round tweeters.i It has a AA recently recapped crossover (Sonicaps). Any way to do this simply? Or is it a myth that this can be done. Note: I am not desired to buy different crossovers
  4. With one unfinished without the veneer, grill, etc., going to be a lot to finish beyond the price of buying. Perhaps the cab is finished like the other one, except for veneer. Also, replacement diaphrapms were used int the K77 tweets . . . I believe (according to Bob Crites website) no truly diaphrapm match has been found and tested. The ones on eBay, I think, are one of those he tested and not up to the quality of OEM. I sure do like the finish on the completed one with the veneer.
  5. Did you all notice it the size? A 19" chest size. My Jack Russell terrier has a bigger chest!
  6. A lot of negative vibe from Digital Music News . . . already, after only two days in release. http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/permalink/2014/03/12/ponoworst I am reserving judgment.
  7. Young writes passionately in his recent autobiography of his lead in the development of and vision for PONO . . . great to see it came to fruition and gives us another choice . . . an expanded recording range, why many of us still play vinyl, but now in a digital choice beyond SACD . . . definitely a "disruptive technology."

Coming late to the party . . . Blew up the picture of the sticker . . . Originally 1976 (P) LS BB--birch black laquer from the factory which is pretty obvious looking inside the top where the crossover is. Corners look, perhaps, too neat to be vinyl . . . probably, but not sure, they were veneered, from what I see. But well may be vinyl . . . hard to believe someone would put all that veneer work into 1976 LS and never update the caps on the AA crossover. (But maybe seller replaced with new parts and took them out for resale?) $2115 for those even if new veneer? Not FMV . . . in my opinion.
  9. I had not heard of ML subs either until I auditioned one. ML speakers are a different breed and amazing in the electrostatic category. All of the lower ML subs are so, so and overpriced. But the Descent i (3 balanced and powered10" woofers) and the Depth i (3 powered 8" woofers) are amazingly musical and go low for HT. The Depth i was too much sub for my RF82s but blend as well with the K-horns set too large, since the ML sub digs deeper . . . a nice compliment. So, I am looking for a pre-owned second one to put in the HT as my last addition. It will come in time. So, are you using a supplemental sub with your K-horns? Have a pair of k-horns alone in the basement workshop for 2 channel there and no sub needed for that setup.
  10. My sub is the original I purchased to run with my first Reference 82, 7.1 setup. I bought it on a close out after auditioning it alongside some others when a high end stereo store was closing. Extraordinarily musical sub, that has proved excellent for my movie uses too . . . Martin Logan Depth i (3 balanced powered 8" woofers in the box. I have actually been looking for a second one (pre-owned this time) for a while. Only one came up in my area in the last year . . . the seller just wanted a little too much for a pre-owned, virtually unknown sub. So for now, I am running the K-horns large with the ML sub. If I could find an ML Depth I or Descent i pre-owned at the right price, that is when I will add the second sub as I should.
  11. Heard my first little KG2 speakers recapped. And then it was on. From start to finish, took me about 11 months to learn, gather all of the Heritage speakers (and then some extras), learn how or solder and rehab Heritage speakers. Bought my first pair of La Scalas (1976 raw birch) and learned what a bad tweeter was and how to secure vintage working parts and recapped them. This forum (really it's members) has been amazingly good to me! Running a Denon 4311 (precursor of the 4520), with a rehabbed Phase Linear 400 (love the VU meters) running the K-horn fronts using the 4311 as a pre to run 11 channels. Just have not found the need to run any more external amps. I do have a spare Adcom GFA 555 waiting in the wings I could put in the mix, but just have not needed. Also have a Scott 299C and Dual 1019 attached through an electronic switch to the K-horns and sub for 2.1 channel listening. Believe me, my room is maxed out. There are only two leather recliners in the room (we are empty-nesters) and I put my office desk in there. Win/win for me in that my wife got my old home office room to herself and her Klipsch Heritage/KG 7.1 setup in there. Do not have any pics right now. I really should take one and use it as the updated avatar. But, even my cell camera sucks . . . just not enough light in the room for a good pic of anything. I would be embarrassed! (So many great pics on there. The four Heresys . . . one pair used as wides came with the original slant risers, so that pair is on the floor between fronts and sides toed in to PLP. The other pair, as heights are sitting on top centered at the front edge on the K-horns. I really should find a way to point them down at the PLP, but it seems to work fin and look nice as is. I live in a log cabin with a low ceiling (8.5 ft) in the HT room, so I cannot hide hide the Heresys in the wall like PSG's solution that Bill posted the pic of above. If I had drywall and a little wiggle room, I would do the same thing. Yeah, I know aI could hang and anchor the heights, but my lovely wife, who is amazing to allow me the hobby, said "no." So, one has to honor that. If I ever move again, my first question while looking and before buying will be: "Is there a room good to convert to HT?" I would like a little more flexibility . . . I have to hide all of my wires behind stuff on the floor, or across the top of edge beams. Just a casualty of HT in a log cabin after the purchase . . . just have to live with a few wires showing here or there. But, since the Heritage speakers I have are all veneer and no black, it all blends well in the log cabin. Thanks for asking. Good move on Future-proofing for your next expansion with the 8801 . . . nice to know you can plan for expansion with no regrets.
  12. Welcome to the Klipsch Forum. Just my opinion, but I would go for sides in a 5.1 setup before rears. But that is just me. Since you obviously like your CF3s, what about patiently looking for a pair of CF4s for fronts and move your CF3s to side duty? Just a thought. Again, welcome to the Forum.
  13. From one Billy to another, Awesome! Great look in your HT! Well done on hiding wiring and nice trim job around the mount! I imagine it is quite the immersive experience? Don't tell anybody I asked (a lot of naysayers out there), but how does the projected 3D look? (Yes, I am one of the few who likes 3D once in a while for movies or gaming.) Now that Panasonic quit making plasmas, think I will make the jump too to a projector on my next HT upgrade. I will try to locate your questions thread. (Or did you get all of your answers through pm/email?) Congrats! Billy
  14. It does, listening to an all Heritage HT setup now (11 channels). But, like you and many others, I was never disappointed in my Reference based HT setup. Loved it too. And would not be disappointed or hesitate in returning to a Reference HT setup, especially with RF7s. It is apples and oranges . . . personal preference, update skills, space, and wallet. My all heritage HT was quite a bit more difficult to dial in, having bought all of my speakers on CL and all of them needing some tweaks and repairs and learning how to do those. Much simpler and faster with a great result going Reference. But I do think my all Heritage HT took me, my opinion, to a new level of enjoyment.
  15. I have not been on for a while, but glad to see I am not the only crazy overkill Heritage HT adherent! Have 11 channel all Heritage HT Belle center Khorns fronts Belle sides La Scala Rears Heresy I wides Heresy I heights. Sounds crazy, but just love the surround sound for movies, even at modest volume. (Still just go 2 channel when listening to vinyl.) Is it overkill? Absolutely, but details really shine in movies. I only get to shake the house when the wife is out.
  16. Of course . . . the great deals are always in Florida, right Youth?!?!
  17. Check Hyundai forums . . . there is always a thread on car forums for upgrading the stereo on any budget.
  18. Martin Logan Depth i . . . designed for music, small form factor, goes down to 20 hz. I love mine with Khorns in 2.1 ss or with Scott 299D. Also, with switcher, use in in a 9.1 configuration for movies. Amazing still, even though it was designed for music. Must be the 3 balanced woofers in it. http://www.martinlogan.com/products/depthi You might want to look into it. It needed big sound, but wanted to go low in a small form factor . . . and got WAF too. Good luck in your search.
  19. I am coming to the party late here . . . I am running the K-horns in a 2.1 . . . using a Martin Logan Depth i sub . . . Three balanced 8" woofers in a small form cabinet. They make beautiful music together and I do love some thump. Definitely an option for you to check out and I have excellent WAF on the ML, especially since it has a small footprint, but big lows.
  20. Congrats, Russ . . . Looks awesome!
  21. Congrats . . . What is the condition, style, and finish on them? Did you get ome pics?
  22. Those pics look like . . . Waits minute . . . Wher are the pics in the ad? Trying to get $1.5k for speakers with no pics?
  23. I wonder what the tops look like . . . The veneer between the bass bin and the tophat does not look like the fronts . . . Looks like walnut between the tophat and bass bin . . . And mahogany on the front?
  24. Somebody put attenuators on them and the caps have not been changed and the woofers are not connected? Am I reading those pics right?
