  1. i listened to my brother's HK receiver this weekend (with some speakers i'm familiar with) and thought it a bit harsh/bright. but to be fair, we're upgrading the source (old cd changer) first. Marantz and Yamaha both good, no experience with sansui.
  2. a short bourbon with a splash of 7. great tunes tonight.

This letter was sent to the Principal's office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An elderly lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all humankind. Dear Kean Elementary: God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at the Sprenger Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away and I am all alone now, and it's nice to know that someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio, but before I received this one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping. The other day her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. Her distress over the broken radio touched me, and I knew this was God's way of answering my prayers. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I told her to kiss my ***. Thank you for that opportunity. Sincerely, Agnes Baker
  6. Dominating performance by the Tide. SEC West, Alabama, LSU and Arkansas, all in the top 5, wow.
  7. If the Corns are in rough shape the price may be high. You might make an offer and see what happens. Visually inspect for damage as you have done and ask for a demo. I'd want to listen to them before buying. Both heresy's and corns are great speakers, i've owned heresy's but not corns. have listened to corns multiple times. They are a step up on the ladder but they are quite a bit larger and this may be worthy of consideration depending on your space. Advice on pricing is difficult. Depends on availability in your area and demand of course. I think that the depressed prices of the last couple of years may be coming to an end. But what do i know. Don't worry youself to death about spending $50 or $100 too much. If this is a hobby you enjoy and you plan to keep the equipment for years, the price you paid won't be as big of a concern 5 years down the road. If you want to shop for 6 months or a year to save $50, ok, i'd rather be listening to great music 6 months earlier. Good luck!
  8. CD. Rip to hard drive but still want the physical media.
  9. that sounds like their earlier stuff, will pick this one up for sure. great gear too, btw. [Y]
  10. reposting a link erik sent me some time ago, this has helped maintain integrity of the khorns' sound while still running a sub. previously ran the khorns from the speaker level outputs on the sub, thus, the subs crossover muddied the music in a way that was unacceptable to me. http://mapleshadestore.com/upgrades_subwoofer.php

The LSU football team is still in New Orleans. They can't get out of town and back home. Someone drew a 50 yard line outside their locker room door and they can't cross it.
  12. I may have been ripped off, they sent me cable escalators.
  13. Congratulations, yes, pics and impressions asap! [Y]
  14. good man, IB..., hmmmm, i do have an open attic area above my listening room...hmmmm
  15. i have to disagree with your last statement, there are some subs that are simply not adequate for music, i know, i've heard several. they were tested in phase, out of phase, along the wall, in the corner, behind the listening position, etc. the pf-15 was "flabby" no matter what i did. but, it's for sale if you're interested! []
  16. one major downside, the Hsu is HUGE, wow, i read the dimensions but be aware that this is a very big box!
  17. i bought this sub last week mostly based on the S&V and Home Theater mag reviews. using it in a 2 channel application with khorns. previously tried a Def Tech PF-15, this sub was not musical at all, it does ok in a HT setup but is out of its element with music. this fall tried a Klipsch sub 12. it also didn't do anything for me, gave it to my brother in law for his home theather. the Hsu however is wonderful, its quick where the PF-15 wasn't, keeps up with the khorns nicely. it goes low, 16hz organ notes from the included test CD are reproduced without effort. 16 hz signals will kind of start to make you feel queasy after awhile [H] my first impressions are VERY positive. i think you would have to spend $1,500 - $2,000 and up to get much more performance, and it would be subtle i think. if you're looking at home theater applications, you may want to consider the SVS or JL Audio subs but for music this one is pretty good. i have been looking to get some bottom end for my 2 channel system for two years now and the Hsu delivers in spades. it's really more than the room needs, but it's nice to have [8]
  18. PC running Win7. Squeezbox Duet get's the FLAC files to the DAC.
  19. center channel is not required but recommended for a "good theather setup". with the mains that close together you could get by for awhile without a center. i would put the mains farther apart and get a center personally. same thing with the sub, you can do without but....you ARE doing without. a sub is needed for home theather in my humble opinion. good luck!

We're having quite a storm here tonight. Really violent, windy, lightening thunder etc. All my wife can do is stare through the window. If it gets any colder, i guess i'll have to let her in...
  21. Married wisely you have. [H]
