  1. Do you have some old wall warts (DC transformers) from some old cordless phone or other device? You should probably check them to see if they produce 12 volts DC. Test with a multimeter to verify voltage and +-. From the Niles SPK specs: SPK-1 Is Activated By 12Volt DC Signal (100mA Minimum) Cut off the tip and wire into the "control in" connections. Plug wall wart into power strip to switch at will. THEN go refresh your cocktail [D] This worked well for me.
  2. You will find a lot of info here on how to tweak these but they are darn good with a capacitor upgrade from BOB. 40 years is pretty old for those capacitors. Well worth the $!
  3. They are worth keeping. Baby says, "Move my Pack and Play to the sweet spot and crank up the Veggie Tales!"
  4. 60 pound lab mix that made it to just 3 months shy of 17 years old. Not quite a Guiness Book entry but what an awesome dog! Did anything I asked and seemed to be able to learn anything. She's been gone four years now and the kids still mention her in their prayers. Good times!
  5. A 16 year old Great Dane!? WOW! I never heard of one living that long. Must have had a happy life!
  6. Any obssesion with equipment that I have is the result of wanting to get it the hell out of the way of the music! Do I like gadgets and purty shiny equipment? Yep! Do I like to learn about it? Yep! Has this site and the people here introduced me to tons of music of music I never thought I would listen to much less like yet I've come to love it because I now have the quality of sound that lets me enjoy it? YEP! Will I listen to a horrible recording that I love (and is the only version in existance) and enjoy it on good equipment? YEP! Anyway, what else do we have to do while gazing fondly at our glowing tubes, flashing LEDs, or beautiful wood finish but listen to some music?
  7. +1 on the stands and the Watco Natural! Very nice work! [Y]
  8. I found on my HII to HIII upgrade that the routed edge of the circular panel was actually a tiny bit wider than the HIII panel. To get a good seal I had to fill it with a little wood filler. See here about the 4th or 5th picture down: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/148682.aspx Not a big deal! There were some criticisms of the Tangent having some boomy bass. Anyone hear HIII components in a Tangent 400 box?
  9. I have some moles I would be glad to let you have!
  10. Your amp plans sound good! REALLY good! Don't discount older Yamaha from your list. The CR-2020 really sounds good with the H1 IMHO. That seems like a good asking price. I would offer a little less to cover a Crites crossover kit.
  11. heh heh... I think I could hear the collective groan. []
  12. Thinking of the future brings me back to think of the past and stories from my Grandmother who was a music teacher and loved playing the blues on the piano. She grew up in Courtland, Kansas but I'm not sure if that is where she got her first job. When she was young she was paid a quarter a show to accompany the silent movies. She played the piano using sheet music that came with the films. I guess she really earned her money with "Ten Commandments" (1923) which lasted over 2 hours. She recalled more than once becoming a little too engrossed in the movies and forget to play. The manager would walk down to her piano and tell her "a little music might be nice!" For her trouble she got a pair of dimes AND a nickel !
  13. Heh heh! Welcome to the fold! [H]
  14. HIGHLY recommended! You must have some Klipsch to listen while you have your other Klipsch on the bench. It keeps you motivated!
  15. no intention of hijacking your thread but that looks like a nice Healey, njcanuck! 100-6?
  16. That would be an excellent way to do it! It would sound as good as WDTV ever could. I use SPDIF on my TV to a Grant Fidelity DAC which is connected to (for now) a Scott 299b. I also have HDMI from my computer to the TV and as long as I have the computer selected as the source on the TV I get the computer audio via the TV's SPDIF. Works VERY well! This configuration might have an edge on using the USB connection from the computer but I haven't compared enough.
  17. Hi Matthew! Sorry, I don't think you will find any 12 step program here. Unless it is 12 steps to your car so you can head for your next pair of Klipsch! I knew I was hooked when I was checking google maps for how many thousands of miles it would be to drive for a certain pair. I factor in how much I would pay for gas, sigh, and then go back to looking closer to home. Luckily, I haven't had to drive over a couple of hours yet!
  18. +1 My set came with everything except I just had HII cabinets without any components so I had to find screws to mount the speakers. The bass on these is good but I suspect you will want a sub. I just wouldn't buy a sub until you hear them for yourself.
  19. Yep! That is why this was my first album I recorded to the computer.
  20. If you play it loud enough for long enough you won't hear those highs anymore. [] Or, actually, you might hear some high squeal that never stops... Tinnitus sucks! [:'(]
  21. You guys are pretty generous! and to think I was happy with this...
  22. Don't sound like much though...
  23. I'm not sure how you could move the K55 driver from the K-700 to the K-701 since the K55 is a screw on mount. Perhaps there is an adapter? I think I remember one that would allow you to connect the K53 to the K-700 but you would need the reverse of this. Have you recapped these yet? That will make a big difference. Anyway, I should have a pair of never used K-701 horns with gaskets - $20 plus shipping if interested.
