  1. Yes, I have an earlier XPA-2, great amp but yes possibly a different direction would be good. Just staying with the thoughts on the original post. I would stay with balanced inputs though.
  2. If you are going to stay in stereo, why would you want to buy all the extra features of the receiver and then hook up an amplifier to that? That combination will not yield the best sound. Also sometimes a Yamaha/Klipsch pairing will be bright. Now if you want to use the a lot of the eq features and such in the receiver and live with those effects on stereo, which I admit can be helpful, go that way but make sure you get the amplifier to go with it. That will tame some of the sound from the receiver and add some guts. There is also another way to go with hdmi, the Essence HDACC dac. http://www.essenceelectrostatic.com/product/hdacc/ which sports an ESS Sabre 9012 DAC. http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/essence-high-definition-audio-control-center/ http://www.soundandvision.com/content/essence-hdacc-dac-headphone-amplifier#CKbwSoLXhCUBEGzZ.97 I have the unit in one of my systems and it is very nice. This little dac paired with an amp like the XPA-2 will truly get you into separates sound quality that many amplifiers with an and on amp in my opinion (and I have gone through a lot of combos) can not do. This dac is also capable of doing HD / Blu-Ray. For $499 plus the Emotiva, killer.
  3. Clear It would probably be good to post some pictures for some real help if you need it. Real K-horns have the model of the crossover labeled on them.
  4. You were lucky : Hopefully you did the right diagnosis to come to that conclusion otherwise for many, it would be a waste of money considering how some people abuse these speakers.
  5. Is output only from the tweeter or is the tweeter not working? If the tweeter is the only thing working, you need to definitely start pulling the drivers and checking them with a multi-meter. Very unlikely you would have blown both the woofers. Might have had a rodent or two living in the ports eating wires. (hopefully not).
  6. Forte II over most everything in the RF line except maybe RF7 II. Tangent, not unless others are not available or you want to use it's core parts and build a speaker, especially if the prices is right. There's nothing wrong with any of them. It will be taste. A lot of folks will like the brighter sound though I am one for a very moderate roll off of highs vs. tilt up that a lot of newer speakers do.
  7. KevinG, are you good with a soldering iron? You would need to verify the four components on the tweeter side and their connections. Marked in red.
  8. Call Klipsch or contact someone like Bob if you are not handy with a soldering iron. There should only be a couple of components that can go bad on the crossover for the high end. Cap or resistor are likely and if you can get them off, they are easy to test. If it is anything else on the crossover, I'd be very surprised.
  9. So we are to assume you swapped the tweeter between the two speakers you have and are sure it is not the tweeter. Is that correct?
  10. No, that's the rear of the diaphragm. It is around the diaphragm. How can it be the back of the diaphragm?
  11. Unfortunately many people don't take care of nice equipment. Easy to build new bases if you don't want to redo them.
  12. I'd like to see how they manage the load impedance to keep the crossover frequency consistent with all the switching. Probably have the crossover components after the autoformers so there is little effect on the speaker but just to the amplifier.
  13. What I am looking at is the quality of the highs / mids and the punch from bottom end. A good high current amp will be able to do this. If you lust after midrange without the top and bottom, many amps will work, especially if you only need to listen at moderate levels due to the speaker's efficiency. For a condo, probably 93 db would be annoying the neighbors.
  14. I have moved away from tubes and most normal solid state. I now have all IcePower (Bel Canto - 1000w, Murano Audio, 500w and 200w, two Pioneer SC-1222K with D3 along with a Panasonic XR-70). I found that they sound bad for the first 24 to 48hrs after they are turned on and need to left on continually, and why not. Sitting there idle they only use a couple of watts. Even the Pioneer receivers, when I swap speakers and turn them off, they sound terrible when first powered back up and need to sit at least until the next day for serious listening. Mostly noticed in the bass lines and dry mid-upper end. I may need to try that amp out. P-E has very good customer service and return policies.
  15. Wide sound stage, good for moderate levels though will need good power for that. Placement fairly picky and likely not to be uncolored as other speakers but they will probably perfect for a condo if you feed them well and can find a good location for them. For sure, let us know your appraisal.
  16. Good call. I just find it annoying when companies utilize things like forums which are pretty much manned by people who buy their products but the companies do things like remove resources like the "discontinued products" information. It can be construed that the company: 1. doesn't respect the free resource they get for their users/purchasers 2. doesn't want to help the used market because they feel the used market impacts new unit sales 3. doesn't realize that the user base / forum members help sell their products, old and new and they don't have to pay their salary, just take to heart what their users want 4. the more people that know the Klipsch name, like Bose, will help to sell more new speakers unless the new speakers are not as good as the old I am not really mad about it. Klipsch can do what they want with their discontinued products page as they own the site but it does show a lack of respect for the needs of the users here and the essence of what this forum is all about. I would think Klipsch, with their heritage, would do better. This might play into why someone can read e-How and come to the conclusion Klipsch is out of business, word of mouth....
  17. Unfortunately the trade appears to be $.50 of storage for dissatisfaction of the folks that help to spread the Klipsch word. That is why a forum is set up, so people can answer questions for Klipsch for free so Klipsch doesn't have to have a huge support staff but I guess Klipsch doesn't want to give back as the people on this forum do. When you think about it, it should make everyone mad.. Also Klipsch should be looking at it from the perspective as to the more information, the better the publicity and marketing. Yes a lot of folks buy Klipsch used but how many actually purchase new Klipsch products after owning used? A high percentage I would guess. I myself have owned probably a dozen pair of used Klipsch speakers but that had made me buy an additional 4 or 5 pair new. Their loss.
  18. I didn't know Klipsch stopped making speakers. I'm glad they told us that. Actually they could just be missing the "the". Instead of "Klipsch stopped manufacturing speakers." to "Klipsch stopped manufacturing the speakers." Just a possibility unless Klipsch has had a long 24 yr sale (huge stock) ending with Palladiums I find as we get more and more content from around the world, we need to do some translation on the "English" since the English language is a hard language to master particularly since we in the US don't necessarily use terms correctly either.
  19. Reminds me of a youtube a friend sent me Set to the wonderful tune of Obladi Oblada. I guess you are just reinforcing my thought of just spend it. You aren't going to need to worry about your stuff when you are gone.
  20. Yes, when that $6k power cord ends up in Salvation Army. Wonder what the price will be there?
  21. Impedance is not the same as resistance. Impedance varies with frequency (frequency dependent) and is nominal or averaged across the frequency range. When you measure with an ohm meter, you are getting DC resistance, no frequency. Due to things like inductors that can look as though they are almost a dead short, using an ohm meter can just give you a relative value for comparison between two speakers, or be used to check if a driver is likely good when pulled from a circuit.
  22. Quite amazing. I know how hot my attic gets here by Austin. I've seen accordion surrounds where the tar had moved all the way to the bottom of the surround. I guess maybe that was age vs heat.
