  1. I bet they don't leak. The Tempest series seems pretty reasonable.
  2. Staring through that Beach Cam is almost as Exciting as these Forums. It's nice and sunny up here today. But It ain't 75 degrees! 50 degrees here. Pretty damn warm for these parts at this time of year.
  3. It's High End, Brother! Wonder if they have Kits? LOL!
  4. Hey! That book saved Bugs Bunnie's ***.
  5. I printed that article and gave it to my Foreman, who happened to be a Fireman for the Air Force(retired) and a BIG Blows fan. We both work at a AFB, Groundskeeping. I handed him the article, and told him to read it and what it was about. His first words before even reading it, were: 'Who wrote this? Someone who hates Bose?' LOL! I haven't had to talk to him since I gave him that Article, but I hope his rave towards Bose gets Humbled. Otherwise, he's gonna get to listen to 9 months of constant rations of sh*t from me, he will be converted. Even if I have to drag him to my place to listen to a real pair of speakers and subs. He brags about his plastic cubes and sub getting real loud and sounding great. Now that's funny! This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-20-2002 at 04:28 AM
  6. Good ol' Fleabay! I'll have to try that CD option, THANX! (Your givin' away all your secrets.)
  7. folded horn acoustic amps. What the Hell is that?! Was this something Fred Flintstone Jammed on? You mean Folded Horn Loudspeaker?
  8. http://www.svetlana.com/docs/tubeworks.html Scroll down to Tube assembly. It explains the Sealex type tube processing machine, and how they are processed and fired up. They use a RF Induction coil around the tube to get the Impurities out of the metals, I think before they pinch the vacuum on the tube. This has nothing to do with audible break-in. But I wonder why if Tubes just break-in right away a few turn-off turn-on cycles, then why are vintage NOS tubes most desired? The materials used in the old NOS Tubes?
  9. Snake pit! Just kidding! Damn Seb, that Sony STR-DB 830 is just chock full of Nichicon Fine Gold Capacitors. That thing probably sounds pretty damn good. Look at the quality difference between the two units you took pics of. The Boards and the Capacitors, you can very easily tell that the STR-DB 830 is a superior unit.
  10. Yeah Mike, Let me know what you think. The trip is, I do seasonal groundskeeping at Fairchild AFB through a private contractor. (Boy, was that strange there on last Sept11, hasn't been the same since, one way in, one way out, wotta PITA!) It's warmin' up but it's still Early, Early spring. It could be April or May by the time I can afford to do such a Endeavor, by the time the paychecks are rollin' in, bills, Etc... I don't know what I'm worried about, I have plenty of bass at the moment.(But....you know!) I am currently running my 16/46's with a NAD 2100 power amp with a Audio Control bass EQ Crossover. I go out the pre with a splitter into the EQ, to avoid going through the EQ and into the main speakers. this way the EQ only effects the Subs. (It's too damn noisy through the Horns.) Tons of Bass from a pretty wimpy power amp. We are talking shaking rattling rip the trailer apart Bass, deep and smooth. (The EQ is making a big help.) People are Yammerin' away about Chorus's having no Bass? Park a pair of 16/46's next to them, it'll solve that problem. Yeah Tom, BTW I got that NAD amp going that I emailed you in the past and said was Toast, it's Not! Put in better trim pots, and rebiased it. It works fine now. (I still need to replace those power supply caps!) THANX!
  11. Gee, Hopefully it will be still going when I can afford to do such a thing. 2,3 months is kinda shaky at the moment. Thanks Tom! This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-19-2002 at 01:52 AM
  12. I like Microsoft in the $$$ reguard, but I hate the way they treat "us", the "ants", or "sand on the beach." Electronic Plantations come to mind? New Feudilism? Serfs for the net?
  13. I got a Email this morning from Ebay for a Eico HF-81, By the time I went to check it out, it was already sold. POOF!
  14. Yeah Manuel, that is what I had thought implied. So it is just a drop-in replacement? THANX!
  15. I have looked to no avail, a couple of dumb ones. Yup, time to start Emailing. Good Post, BTW.
  16. Thanks for the reply, Tom. $178 with cores before shipping for two. It may be some time, But I WILL be in touch. This is a on going thing, Right?
  17. 'the singer i think was was lucky enough to date rosanna arquette - hence the song rosanna.' That's a pretty scary thought when you see her on 'Pulp Fiction'. Yea, somebody remembered Ol' T Rex Tommy Bolin. Steve Winwood??
  18. What about Capacitors in Passive Crossovers?
  19. Justin, Archive this Forum. Study those posts check out the links. Since your working on 5000 posts, you might as well graduate to up here. Shouldn't they give a guy a T-shirt for this? The trip with High efficiency Loudspeakers is that they are louder with less wattage. The drivers have a higher sensitivity rating, horns are classic examples. They are more Dynamic, they pick up whatever little anomalies in sound or noises and reproduce it. Cornwalls are 98 decibel sensitivity, they take 1 watt at one meter(This could be a wrong measure)to produce 98 decibels. That means if you take that Marantz on the volume to more than about 8, 9 o'clock(Depends on the amp)your parents will be chapped. So this means that those Cornwalls only need the first few watts on the Marantz to be LOUD. This is where the quality thing comes in. Just how clean is the quality of that amp at the first few watts, thats what you need to find out. I have pair of Chorus II's with a 440 watt Yamaha, top of the line for Yamaha nowdays(The older stuff prior to HT was better), I barely even push this amp, It's way overkill. These speaker's are rated at 101 decibels, I don't know what measurement they go by either. They are dynamic, and very dependent on the recorded material and the source itself. (Keep that in mind, when you give the Cornwalls a listen.) Although I am very happy with what I got, soundwise at the moment, and the Yamaha has the Traditional put you to sleep Transparency, which I don't mind. But there is this nasty little thing about Transistor amps called 3rd Harmonics, that Grainy distortion in Solid State that high efficiency loudspeakers do oh so well. You will see this as you lurk through these boards. There is a lot of lower power solid state designs that work well with HE loudspeaker, however. I hope this helps.
  20. There is Pics of the circuit of the original 47 labs gaincard on the Tweakers Asylum. Not to mention the sites for the Clones. 47 labs is making some big bucks off those gaincards! 9 peices in the circuit?!!! I've had kinda wanted to build a clone, but backed out. Maybe down the road.
  21. $100 bucks a woofer with $50 credit for return for the old one. Sounds like a deal, I'm in when I have the cash. My understanding was, that the newer driver wouldn't fit in the old Cylinder enclosures. That guy's post proves otherwise. Gee, whats up TV Tom?! My 16/46 drivers have maybe about 50 hours on them Tom, still cherry!
  22. It took some time for me to get used to my Chorus II's. They seemed pretty damn brite at first, a crossover upgrade and my ears got used to it. I have a pair of 1970 sansui Sp-2000's that I was upgrading the crossovers and put them in the system for a listen. While the Sansui's sound good, they are dead sounding compared to the Chorus II's. Damn Sansui's have three blown tweeters though, could be one reason.
  23. Simple Mike, Women have better things to do than hang out on some stuffy old audio Forums! You have a good point, though. There is a Klipsch fan named Irene out there, she was asking about crossover networks for Heritage stuff, did anyone ever see any posts on the Boards from her? I was getting some side window with her questions on it. BTW, MIKE! did you get the scanned drawing I Emailed you?
