  1. You should only need to do the caps. If it works, you probably don't have output transistor problems. Bruce
  2. I was thinking that the definition of 'bypass' might be in order as well. This would mean that the regular value of capacitor in the circuit has the smaller bypass cap in parallel with it, to modify the performance characteristics. In your case, you might find an improvement by placing a .1µf cap in parallel with the .33µf that is called for in the design. Bruce
  3. If you could get to Wichita or the Denton, TX area there is a great pair for sale. Bruce
  4. So..... are you thinking of trying some BMS drivers with those horns of Al's? Bruce
  5. I work with a woman who was born and raised here in the U.S. She is in her late 50s, and was given to her first husband when she was 13. It wasn't a religious thing, just a part of the culture she was raised in. Bruce
  6. I'm glad that day is outta the way! [] I have actually seen her when she wasn't smiling, but I couldn't ask for a better daughter-in-law. Bruce
  7. My 430 is quiet, but the one my son has does make some noise. Most notably when first powered up, even after a minute, a change in the volume control causes some noise that is similar to a dirty pot. If you leave it alone for five minutes, it doesn't do it. DJK posted which caps needed to be replaced for specific symptoms. Neither one is as clean sounding as my 2A3 amps, but the H/K amps didn't cost as much either. The H/Ks DO have a lot more power. 8. It is an awesome little receiver... especially for the money one must spend for them. They work quite well, have dual power supplies for the electronics. You might find it sounds more powerful that other receivers. They seem to work well with Klipsch speakers. If you have any specific noise issues, there are some capacitor replacements that can be made to clear them up, and a qualified tech should be able to do the surgery. Someone posted a link to the tech manual for this. If you can't find it, I will share again. Bruce
  9. It has to be balanced on both ends. They can very easily go hundreds of feet at line level. Bruce
  10. Yup, using a John Albright design (first order) for my LaScalas. Love the contant impedance for using with my 2A3s. They seem to work well together. Bruce
  11. They thread into what is often called a t-nut. They shouldn't fall out (I'm not saying they couldn't, but the are pretty secure). Bruce
  12. For a fairy new artist, check out youtube and look for Andy McKee, or use this link: He has one album out. The guy is simply amazing. Listen on something good. He also has tracks on a harp guitar. I think his regular acoustic is either a Lowden or an Avalon. If you don't like his music, I would really be surprised. Bruce
  13. Just had a wedding in the family this weekend. The photographer we chose was someone who uses a Nikon digital (I can't even remember the model at the moment). He doesn't do prints and albums... he gives you a CD or DVD of all the images. So we will receive a DVD of over 600 images. He is spending a great amount of time making adjustments to the images, as he always shoots in raw format. As a former photog, the final work is always in the darkroom, and higher res digital photos allow that to be done. But just like the darkroom, you have to learn how to use the tools at your disposal. There is a great lab close to where I work. He want all pics at 300 dpi. You would really think they are film. They are magic. But the shot needs to be good to start with. That is the most important thing to remember. What I find interesting... is that a mass market lab (or labs) like Walgreens, automatically resizes photos to 1536x 1024. And the look fine for most prints. They allow much larger pixel counts for larger size prints. It is amazing what a pic can look like with such a crummy pixel count. Canon just announced a 21.x megapixel camera. Simply amazing. But you need a computer that can easily work with 60+ meg images to work with the files. Bruce
  14. Best advice yet... go visit Terry! Hearing is believing, and he will show you what needs to be done. Bruce
  15. Really nice.... you have to make sure they are seated correctly in the ear canal... then the response is very good. Bruce Let me add: Extremely good! But you have to like headphones... some people just don't like them at all. These were very comfortable.
  16. I find the bass on my own pair of HIIs to be tight and accurate. No boom at all, not do I find them bass shy. At least most of the time. A different amp will make a difference, but listen to them on your amp for a long time before changing yours for another. You might like a different amp just because it is different, and tire of it after a while. In the end, what you like is what you want and should end up with. Bruce
  17. I DO play acoustic, but lately have been wailing away on my 1940s lapsteel and new electric. Having a lot of fun... as for the other...[8-)] Bruce
  18. Francesco, I haven't done a thing to the Heresy IIs. I would like to replace the caps in the crossovers, and perhaps rebuild them on a separate board, to mount in the cabinets. The crossovers are mounted on the input connector cup right now. The LS had a crossover that I didn't like, also with old caps. I built brand new ones (a constant impedance, first order slope). Other than that, I just enjoy them very much. I also think the Heresies have pretty decent bass, but then, I think my LaScalas have good bass too. The right amp can really make a difference on them. I also replaced the tweeter on the La Scalas. THe old ones were ok, but I put in a set that is sold by one of the forum members. It is a drop in for the Heresies, Cornwalls, LS, KHorn. I like them a lot. Took all of 15 minutes to swap them out. The woofers hold up extremely well... having a treated cloth surround, they almost never wear out unless really abused. The diaphragms in the mid and tweeter drivers can fatigue or get blown, but still you would be pushing them pretty hard to do that. Replacement diaphragms are available for a very reasonable price. I listen at fairly low levels, so I figure mine will last a long time. I got them used (purchased the LaScalas and the Heresy IIs were a gift from my oldest son). The short story for you would be to just enjoy the Chorus IIs for a while and get used to them. Bruce
  19. The SR-71 on display in Hunstville was flown in, and landed on the highway, and then moved over to its display position. I think it is a two seater. They used them for weather tracking.
  20. Roger, you are talking a significant price differential by adding a sub. And taking up more space as well. Bruce
  21. Welcome- This would be a start for you (perhaps you've found it by now anyway) http://www.klipsch.com/products/discontinued/details/chorus-ii.aspx They are an awesome speaker, and fit into rooms a lot easier than many of the other Heritage lineup. EDIT: Midrange driver is K-61, while the Chorus and Cornwall II use a K-57. Both are phenolic diaphragms. Bruce
  22. I broke down and bought a real pair. I plan on making the box first, to see if I like them, then perhaps do the real mod on the cabs. I bought a set of SETs, my 2A3 Moondog amps and a BBX preamp. Have spent more money that I should have, being self indulgent. With a son getting married next weekend, the youngest heading back for his junior year tomorrow morning and a trip to China in Oct., I don't really need anything else to do... I really want to get things finished up with my gf, (reason for my trip to China), as she leaves Monday from the Philippines to go back to her teaching job in Nanchang. Man... that has to be confusing for everyone reading this. The short story would be... things will settle down and I'll build the ported boxes, to see if I like it (and do tests for Mike). The credit for your LS clones shouldn't go to me. I just passed along info from others. [:$] Bruce
  23. Interesting Bob, I'm really glad to hear that (to clear up the rumors). [] Bruce
  24. The bass horn of the LS will project far better in an open arena of some sort. Weren't they originally used for a P.A. application, like one of the political campaigns (Winthrop Rockefeller, Governor of Arkansas in the '50s.)? Bruce
  25. Santa, The ported version is a little lower in efficiency compared to the stock LS. Very cool that you still like them, especially after all the work you put into them. Bruce
