Yeah, just standard black shoe polish. I'm sure the shade of black varies by mfg. so some trial and error may be necessary.

I've tried the black Sharpie and it really stuck out. Black shoe polish (liquid with foam applicator tip) worked much better for me.

I've tried most as well and keep coming back to Spotify. You would think that they must realize that their primary competitors are the ones that offer lossless audio. If they were to employ that into their platform, they could gain so much more market share imho I remember when Spotify had another platform called Fidelify but was (and looks like it still is) in Beta. Just the back of the receiver if it's accessible. When you do run Audyssey, you'll hear noise ( chirps, or the like) from each speaker as the set up processes. Be sure to run all mic positions as instructed. This will set levels (trims) for each speaker which you can view once done and fine tune from there. If you get any error messages during set up, report back and we'll go from there. Did you run the Audyssey room correction software? If so, were you getting sound thru the front speakers during set up? What are the trim levels it set up and the crossover points? Also, a picture of your connections may be helpful.

Are the flat metal jumpers in place between the terminals? Are you connecting to one black and one red input on the speaker?

I went back to Spotify for the very same reasons when my free trial expired. Worked out ok tho as I got 3 months for the price of one when I re-subscribed to Spotify. I'm sure as time goes by that Amazon will fine tune some of the qwerks based on suggestions and complaints.

Lots to choose from and your budget will dictate what to select. Personally, I would not buy from Best Buy. They do carry the reference collection but that is the lower tier of consumer gear.
