  1. I haven't heard 4.2 but I really like my 4s. I can't say I'd call them sloppy. They have a rear passive, and room placement is important. I have larger Klipsch also, and I like the KG4 for their big sound, reasonable size, and nice looks. I had to replace some bad woofers in the last pair I bought. Check the woofers during bass passages for any weird rattles or popping sounds under the dust cap. I recapped mine, as well as installing Crites diaphragms. Check to make sure seals are air tight. They're a favorite of my girlfriend's.
  2. Awesome! I really enjoy those vintage Marantz too. That's definitely one to hang onto. ☺️
  3. Have you changed out the tweeters for Crites Ti? That's a big difference, as well as replacing the crossover capacitors. I like Jantzen brand for tweeters, available from Parts Express, and their house brand polypropylene. I like vintage Sansui gear with my Klipsch, but I'm sure Macs are great. I've never had a chance to hear them together, however. Chorus 2 are pretty damn awesome, and they were expensive, listed in the same catalogs right next to Lascalas and Khorns.
  4. Looks like a no-brainer on the EVs. If I still had CF-4s, I'd try them myself. I'm a big EV fan.
  5. Gosh, you think there would be replacement diaphragms available somewhere! I've heard of people having luck with EV compression drivers, as well as some other brands. I think Parts Express or Ebay should have something suitable. I'm sure someone will hop on here with exact information. Good luck with your search.
  6. Sooooo, I bought the T5000 last week. They sounded pretty good when I heard them briefly in the owner's garage. The drivers looked surprisingly great, no pushed-in dust caps or torn woofers. I brought them home, and plugged them in to my big Sansui G receiver. Yuck!! The midrange was just plain piercing and there was very underwhelming bass, for a 12" active and 12" passive in a good sized cabinet. I was thinking about ways to unload them as quickly as possible. Butttt, I had to check inside first. I pulled all the drivers. Turns out they have really nice components. High quality K-28-K vented, ribbed cone woofers, K-75-K tweeters that look identical to my Chorus II, and K-53-K midranges that are probably the same as Chorus II also. Beefy drivers, and good looking crossovers with high quality parts. Something is wrong. First step was to recap the crossovers. I had spare Jantzen caps for the tweeters and midranges, and Parts Express electrolytics for the woofer circuit. I was planning on just recapping, then buttoning up for some listening, but my order from Bob Crites happened to arrive ;-). Soooo new Ti tweeter diaphragms were installed with the new crossover parts. I've enjoyed the Ti phragms in every Klipsch I've been able to use them in. They do benefit from break in time, however, which is where I'm at now. Currently...... They are kicking ***! That peaky, unlistenable midrange is sooo much smoother. That passive, which was making borderline over-excursions before, is now tamed and moving properly with the woofer. The highs are just great. And getting better. I was about to write off the Tangents, but I'm entirely absorbed now. It's basically Forte with a front firing passive. Wow! They're shaking the house currently.
  7. Hi Scotty, I had a SX-980 too, that I bought used while I was a teenager. It worked great, even up until last year sold it to a fellow audio junkie. Really nice sound, versatile, and those looks are just classic. I like vintage Pioneer speakers too! :-)
  8. Yeah, I saw that incorrect info posted too! These are T5000. I couldn't tell the difference from online information. Thanks for the info!
  9. I'm supposed to check out a pair tomorrow, and I'm very interested to hear what they sound like. From what I gather, they're underrated, sort of like the KG series were before they gained appreciation. Apparently, these have the same components as the Heresy II but with a large box, passive radiator, and low bass. I've never heard Heresies, but I do have KG4 as well as Chorus 2. I don't expect them to upseat the Chorus, but they look like fun speakers. Does anyone here have a pair? Done any upgrades like Crites? Thanks
  10. Easy enough! I usually use Jantzen Crosscaps or Dayton polypropylene. Thanks
  11. So to lower the midrange on Crites A/4500, you can change the tap to what exactly? And the cap goes from what I to what? Or resistor where? Sorry Ive read different things about this. Id like to lower the midrange a little, and want to make sure I order the right parts. Is there more than one adjustment available? Wish I could see a picture of the modification.
  12. Why does the AK2 get attacked? Some people prefer less forward midrange. I would always see people on here saying to dump the AK2 and move to AK3 or something else. I'm honestly curious.
  13. How are the Speakerlab woofers "not even close" to the K33? They had 4 and 8 ohm versions, I believe.
  14. Ad is down, never heard back. Oh well!
  15. I texted, but no answer back.
  16. Thanks for the tips, Moray. I like the Ti sound, and actually have a pair of those Ti midrange diaphragms waiting to be installed. Do you have any photos of your woofer mods by chance?
  17. I'm a big Chorus II fan also. I like the punch of the big pro-type 15", as well as the lower cutoff frequency of the larger tractrix midrange horn. Crites Ti tweeter diaphragms make them even better.
  18. I always wanted to hear those! I'm sure they're pretty sweet.
  19. Yeah, where did the Driver X thread go?
  20. Nice. I was tempted, but already have enough gear too. Those NADs are really great!
  21. Man, those caps are are sweet! Where can you get them?
