  1. Amazing deal! FYI, if you are going to use K-55's, you will need the adapters. Buy them now and save time and shipping!
  2. Interesting read on the ESN. I may give that at try. Regarding the Universal network. The crossover to the Mid driver is 2nd order Butterworth, which results in a 180 degree phase shift. The outputs to the Mid drivers are reversed to correct this. The autoformer is part of this filter, but has no affect on phase.
  3. It costs a little more, but you could always parallel a 1.0 uf cap with a 1.5 uf cap to get the 2.5 uf cap needed. Mike
  4. A little off topic, but where can I get a good spade connector for these and similar networks? They can only be a max of 8 mm outside width. I'm currently using some from Ace Hardware . Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. Thanks, Mike
  5. It would be quicker the check DCR through the binding posts before "opening up the hatch".
  6. Hey James... How many inputs do you need? What speakers will the amp drive? Mike
  7. Here's my homemade replacement for the AK-2 bass panel. Yes, those are the stock AK-2 screws. The other end of the White Lightning cable connects to a DIY Decware SET amp, actively crossed at 300hz, 24db slope. Mike
  8. At $36 a year, Pandora is a steal. Runs on just about any device. My wife loves it. I'm a huge fan of MOG, but Beats Music is cutting the cord on tax day and Beats Music won't stream to my SB touch. May have to give Spotify a try.
  9. I have never tried these, but have heard good things. The description almost mirrors your issues with regular binding posts. http://www.electracable.com/tubeconnector.htm Of course, this still may require a new doggy door Mike
  10. Sorry, but I've always wondered... If my math is correct, Ohm's law dictates that a 2.5 amp fuse, combined with 6 ohm driver, would blow at only 37.5 watts. Am I off??? Also, I assume at certain frequencies, the impedance would drop below 6 ohms. Any sustained signal at that frequency would blow the fuse with even less power. What am I missing? Mike
  11. Not JBL, but I use BMS 4592ND-MID's on my Khorns, crossed at 300hz, 24dB slope. I got them when they were ONLY $900 a pair. Mike
  12. I've used battery and laptop power supplies, and the laptop PS sounded best to me... This is a small Radio Shack case. A 2.5 X 5.5 mm jack allows me to connect to all sorts of DC supplies. Mike
  13. Mine were discolored, too. I agree...way overkill. Also off topic, but is there a thread on how others have removed/bypassed their AK-2's, 3's, etc? This isn't for the faint of heart. Thanks, Mike
  14. As long as you use DC only, and get the polarity right (electrolitic caps and the power supply), you can just solder in a wire for D1. You'll get back the .75 volt drop thru the diode. Mike
  15. Sorry for the late response, but I was looking for the receipt, and failed. I believe I bought these around 2006. If memory serves me correctly, the speakers replacing them were active floor standers, but can't remember the model. I wish the Klipsch web site had more info on discontinued speakers Mike
  16. I accidentally hooked up my Lepai 2020a+ to my battery basackwards and fried it. Saw this modded one and bought it (the wood also matches my zigmahornets). A little pricey, perhaps, but really sounds good. http://nsmt-loudspeakers.com/Modified-Lepai-T-Amp Mike
  17. This is from ALK's "Universal upgrade" in his download section... Taps -db x-1 -22.7 1-2 -19.7 2-3 -16.7 0-x -15.0 2-3 -13.7 0-1 -12.0 x-3 -9.8 0-2 -9.0 1-4 -6.8 0-3 -6.0 x-4 -5.5 2-5 -3.8 0-4 -3.0 1-5 -2.5 x-5 -1.7 Mike
  18. I happened to be walking through SoundTrack (a discontinued electronics store in the Denver area) and saw a pair of demo RF-83's. They were $1300 for the pair (black) due to the fact that Klipsch was discontinuing the model. Bought them on the spot. As it turned out, Klipsch continued to sell them for around $2400 (?) for another year or two. 2 channel only. Squeezebox Touch (analog modded) or I-Pod (Pure i-20)-> Adcom pre -> Class D Audio kit (60 W per channel) -> Morrow Audio bi-wire -> RF-83's. Love 'um. Sound great even at low volume. Mike
  19. Rhing... How go you remove enough solder to remove the jacks that come with the board? I've tried a wick, but couldn't get enough off to free the jacks. Mike
  20. Hi I ordered a pair of these TDA7297 amps, just for fun. I also have a TA2020 amp that I run from a 18AH 12 volt battery. I did notice an increase in bass response over the SMPS. I'll use the battery on the TDA7297 amps when they arrive. Do the TDA7297 amps have on/off thumps? I'll probably try these on my bi-amped Khorns, replacing the SET amps. Thanks, Mike
  21. Wow! What's the impedance of your 288-16K drivers? Must be 32 ohms for such a small cap. If it is easier, you could remove the cap and replace it with a wire. Otherwise, I'll try to find a Type A schematic and go from there. You could also buy a pair of AP15-6000T crossovers from ALKENG.COM for $380.00 plus shipping, although the swamping resistor value might need to be adjusted if it's a 32 ohm driver). I'm using the new-for-me ES5800T (that's mine in the picture). Let me know how I can help (or confuse). Happy to do so. Mike
  22. The Marchand is sending <400 hz frequencies (24 dB slope) to your bass amp, driving your K-33's. It's sending >400 hz frequencies (24 dB slope as well) to your other amp. The 13 uf (?) capacitor in the crossover will filter frequencies >400 hz at a 6 db slope. The two slopes will not summ very well, I would think. That's why you need to bypass the C1 capacitor, as it is ruining what the XM66 has already done correctly. Hope that makes sense. Mike
  23. Hi I assume by connecting to the rest of the Type "A" Crossover, you are referring to the output side of C1? I'm using DIY XM9's...the XM66 was tempting! Mike
  24. Topping TP60 Tripath TA2022 50WPC (80WPC 4 Ohm) Mini Amplifier $207.99 Amazon.com Mike
  25. For those of us still learning how to read circuits/schematics...would I be correct in saying that this is a single ended pentode amplifier? One of the original questions was whether it was a SET amp (single ended triode). I'm also amazed that this dissimilar tube would be enough to amplify the very small voltage from a phono cartridge (or am I missing something). Thanks Mike
