    WOW 60 today

Heck, I passed 60 a few years ago and I'm still trying to figure out what I wanna be when I grow up ... or if I want to grow up!! Probably not. Happy B-Day.
  2. I've had very good results with Marantz and Parasound ss amps on my Cornwalls. Dean's recommendations sound intriguing too but I haven't tried them yet.
  3. Captain Phillips. Excellent. There's another thread on this with other positive comments.
  4. Another recommendation for Capt. Phillips. It's one fine movie and Tom Hanks is excellent, as always.
  5. My experience with Marantz is that it will provide better sound quality with Klipsch than most alternatives. I've used Marantz integrateds with 2 ch Klipsch systems and currently use Marantz separates (7055 and 7005) in my all KLF home theater. The sound quality is fantastic. I don't have a personal basis for comparrison, but I've seen many comments on Emo over time and most of the praise seems to be with regard to price and power, not sound quality. My choices came down to Marantz and Emo at upgrade time and sound quality (based on prior experience) with a Marantz/Klipsch combination drove my decision. Oh yeah, Marantz (at least my power amp) is all channels driven. I have plenty of headroom. Again, I don't have personal experience with Emo but I don't regret my decision at all based on the results i've gotten. Good luck and cheers to all !!
  6. I usually make too many changes at once to do a decent comparrison, but we had a water problem in the lower level a few years back and only the cable/wire on the floor was affected. (Speakers on spikes and components on rack). Got some short runs for the main speakers and center from Blue Jeans along with the interconnect and got the long runs of 12 ga. oxygen-free stuff from a no-name ebay seller for the surrounds. HT sound was noticeably better from the git go. All of this new cable replaced Monster cable. Still not sure if this difference reflects upon the improved quality of the new stuff or just shows that Monster isn't very good in the first place. Oh well ....
  7. The 30's have slam for sure. I use them (with KLF-10's and C7) for HT. Have never had the chance to hear Chorus and they are probably great too, but can't comment. As with any speaker, the 30's will sound better with a better quality amp. I upgraded amp and pre/pro a little over a year ago and it made a big difference. No harshness in the mids and the bass is even better than before. Keep us updated on your progress!!
  8. We saw RED 2 with Bruce Willis Friday night. Excellent cast and a fun watch. IMO the first RED was a little better but both are worth watching. Last night we saw Man of Steel (Superman). Well done and much fun (if not a little overdone at times). Both movies are great for HT. Your sub will get a workout, esp for Man of Steel. Enjoy.
  9. Glad you are back in the fold. If you could wall mount the TV you might have more flexibility on what you need in terms of the center channel.
  10. Wish I could answer your questions, but not familiar with these speakers. I'd assume they take very little power to sound good. Please post pics if possible. Would love to see them, and you will get more responses to your concerns.

    The 1950s

The 50's did seem simpler, but I was just a kid and kids' lives usually are simpler (or should be). In any case, I wouldn't trade my growin' up years in the 50's for growing up today.
  12. I'm going strictly from memory, but when I purchased new 30's in the late 90's the retail price was less than the $2K stated in the ad. Somewhere around $1800 as I recall. The sales price is not out of bounds but seems to be on the high end. The prices I've seen seem to range from $600 to the $900's. No idea what actual sales prices are. Can't really comment on the 10's (I use them as surrounds) since the deal I got was one of those rare steals and was 4 or 5 years ago.
  13. Boobs. That what I thought (hoped) too. Keeping abreast of things, huh?
  14. Even though I love my Cornwalls, I'd opt for the speakers, namely Cornscalas. I'm no DIY'er so I'd need to buy .... but reluctant to buy anything I can't audition. An expanded midrange and tighter bass would be great.

    Southern BBQ

Another great bbq site is amazingribs.com. Interesting commentary, recipes, etc. Found it when preparing to smoke the Thanksgiving turkey.
  16. Blessings to anyone affected and "stay safe" to everyone. I'm in Colorado now but grew up in tornado alley in the midwest. Spent some terrifying hours waiting for storms to pass.
  17. Just wire a hundred seventy bucks to some remote location to show "good faith" before the shipment that never arrives ....
  18. I avoid the forums in which arrogance and intolerance (both of opposing viewpoints and lack of expertise) seem prevalent. On the other hand, I appreciate folks with expertise who seem to focus on sharing it in layman's terms, like Chris seems to want to do. Oh, Chris, I'd take you up on your caveat emptor but maybe give a hint as to the forum you're referring to. Thanks for your post. Chuck

    Southern BBQ

Typical (unpredictable) Colorado spring weather has thwarted my plans for a long smoke job on pig ribs today. Remaining ever hopeful and optimistic for next weekend!! Cheers .........
  20. If there ever was a time you could take a stranger in, it seems long past. Hell, it's not always safe to buy and sell on CL!! Enjoy your day, folks.....
  21. I haven't heard of any special certification tests but some of the folks described here would undoubtedly pass any requirements to be a Certified Jerk with a specialty in sleaze. My only significant adventure on CL turned out pretty well. Luck I guess.
  22. So much to choose from .... but my latest fav is Batman/The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger. Many scenes to choose from beggining to end. The early bank robbery scene is great, but so are others. I still have friends who haven't experienced the system since I upgraded the TV, electronics and sub and little over a year ago. When they want to see and hear what it can "do", this is the movie I reach for. Of course, I'm easily bribed with new stuff and this will probably change in the foreseeable future.
  23. Glad someone finally mentioned the Oppo. I hesitated to spend the extra $ but very glad that I did. I got the 103 and it's versatile and just excellent. Does about everything I need. On the amplification and processing side, it's darn hard to beat Marantz and Klipsch for my money. I replaced a mediocre sounding Denon with Marantz separates with great results. If I had not been able to get the separates, I would have gone to a Marantz AVR. You might end up getting something else when all is said and done, but Oppo and Marantz should at least be considered. Best of luck and cheers to all!!
  24. Those are beauties. Wish I was closer ... I'd take a test drive and don't think I could resist!!
