  1. Good to read that you have your new Jubilees properly EQ'd and playing music.
  2. Using the REW functions as you and Chris A have described, I ran some tests and discovered that I had a 70 Hz null at my main listening position, but not other areas of the room, when operating just my RF Klipschorn. I can't very easily move that speaker's position, so I moved other objects in the room while playing a 70 Hz sine wave test tone, until that acoustic null disappeared.
  3. What equipment and/or software is needed to measure speaker impedance?
  4. Have you had time to try the mini DSP? I am curious if the newer units are quiet, compared to some forum members comments about hiss from the first version.
  5. Please share some more pictures of your restored Klipschorns. Thanks
  6. The technology of the Benchmark AHB2 amp is very interesting to read about. You have a really nice audio system.
  7. The Heresy IIIs sound really good, but for 2 channel music without a subwoofer, the Cornwalls will produce more bass and sound fuller. Klipschorns will fit nicely on the long wall of an 18' x 14' room, take just a little corner space and sound the most impressive of the three choices, if the room is good for the corner horn layout.
  8. Congratulations on getting your Jubilees. @Chris A will be the best person to guide you with the settings for your crossover. In the meantime, connect a USB cable from the Xilica to your PC, open the software and get familiar with the programming options. I also suggest that you label all your connector cables very clearly, so the woofer wires don't get mixed up with the tweeter wires, and leave the tweeters disconnected until you have everything else operating properly.
  9. ellisr63, Your MDF horn project looks interesting, as well as your entire home theater project thread. When I graduate up to having Multiple Entry Horns at home, they will be based on the K-402 horn because Chris has produced an excellent design. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of three MEH's across the front of his room.
  10. The Forte IIIs with this Cary Audio SLI-80 tube amp were a nice combination.
  11. Removing the speaker wire terminal cup will give a view of the crossover and internal wire connections, but first make sure everything is good on the outside.
  12. The original owner probably paid extra for the heavy duty K-43s.
  13. Don't give up. We all want to help you solve the problem. So far, we can't tell from your info if the muffled sound is a music source problem or a speaker problem. You need to isolate the problem by following all the above advice in a systematic method.
  14. Ported and IB subs should be electronically limited with a subsonic filter/high pass filter to prevent damage from cone over-excursion. Subs with factory attached amps are usually DSP programmed this way. Sealed box and horn loaded subs are not as vulnerable to over-excursion risk, because the back chamber acts as a spring. Your DC-One is a good DSP. Lot of folks enjoy their Klipschorns and Jubilees without subs. When your Jubilees arrive, try them with a little bass boost and see what you think.
  15. Good to know that our Klipsch magnets are still strong after all these years.
  16. My direct radiator subs are EQ'd flat to 20Hz, and protected by a 48db/oct. subsonic filter. While playing music with 100+db peaks, I watched the 18" cones moving about 2mm. Good enough for me, but I don't have Klipsch Jubilees, so when people who do have them recommend a certain type of subwoofer to go with Jubilees, that is probably the best way to go.
  17. Great Plains Audio website says "Our Standard Service includes remagnetizing old Alnico high and low frequency loudspeakers to restore their original magnetic strength at no extra charge."
  18. . There are some speaker service businesses that offer re-magnetizing. I am now wondering about my thirty year old Heritage magnet collection. I agree about the need to compare the new 55-G with a new 55-X, to be fair.
  19. Is the muffled sound condition happening with both speakers at the same time?
  20. Much depends on how loud you listen. My opinion is based on rarely playing my home system louder than a non-amplified jazz band at 20 feet, or hitting about 100db SPL.
  21. I have some stock Klipschorns without subs for background music, and some tri-amped Klipschorns with three great sounding 18" ported subwoofers from way before I joined the forum and then discovered that horn loaded subwoofers are recommended, but these perform so well that I hesitate to give them away and find out that a "better sub" may not sound as good as these do in my space. Actually, I firmly believe that just as important as having a quality subwoofer, is to install properly positioned bass traps for powerful, well distributed low frequency response in a listening room.
  22. I listen to live music a couple times a week and I think that direct radiators do a great job of sounding exactly like a live band. I also have folded horn woofers at home, so I am going to agree with everyone on this thread.
  23. Very nice audio system. Your pictures and charts look like a high end professional installation. I am still learning to utilize all the different tools in REW, so it is good to see what you have done. P.S. for other readers; you may not be able to download and open the linked REW files without having the free REW program on your computer.
