  1. He had me at: "Your system will be Timber matched, and it is an unreal way to watch movies at home." Just what I was looking for........... Mark
  2. The Ti mids in my Forte II sound better to me that the original phenolic dome mids. I do use a Crites bandpass filter I installed at the same time as the Ti mids. The one thing I hear more than anything else is the separation between the mid and the tweeter is more clearly defined now. My guess is the bandpass filter does a better job than the acoustic roll off method in the stock setup. Looking at the chart Dean posted, does anyone know how the Ti curve is shaped at 7000 hz with the bandpass filter installed? Just wondering. Thanks, Mark
  3. Dennis, Thanks for the links to the Stereo Review article on the Forte. Much appreciated. Mark
  4. Thanks for the link. Very enjoyable. Mark
  5. Best of luck with whatever you decide to buy. I think today's cars are vastly superior to vehicle from 30 years ago. Saw a report on TV last night that Consumer Reports likes the current batch of cars from Subaru. I've test driven one but thought the MPG ratings a little low compared to the competition. Mark
  6. Rockhound, I too drive on excess of 35,000 miles per year. As of May 4th 2015 I will have driven that each year for the past 34 years. My answer after years of trying various makes and models of cars is this: Get yourself a Honda Accord. Good, 30 mpg plus, gas mileage. Big enough to give a good ride. Change the oil every 5000 miles and it will last you ten years. My daughter is still driving a 2002 model with over 300,000 miles. I gave it to her 6 years ago after it was well broken in. I've owned Nissans, Fords, Chevys, Pontiacs, BMWs, Toyotas, and Hondas for my daily drivers. Nothing has been more reliable and easy on the pocket book like the 4 Accords I've owned. HTH, Mark
  7. Thanks, yes I'm still looking. Price is right but finish is wrong. Need one that's not painted black. Appreciate you taking the time to post. Mark
  8. The Klipsch badges on my 1993 Forte II speakers look and feel like "just paint on a plain piece of copper". There is no etching or relief around the lettering. HTH, Mark
  9. Thanks Moray, those ideas will keep me busy for a while. Mark
  10. Moray, I've upgraded the Xovers (Crites), and the tweeters and mid diaphragms to Titanium(with the band pass filter). I've also put a small gel spacer between the mid and the back of the speaker. When the weather warms up so I can work in my garage I'll do the cabinet stiffening mod. What other mods might you recommend? Mark
  11. I did that after returning from a trip to the House of Klipsch last fall. The photo I took of my LSI LaScala's next to Colter's pro stuff left my sweet wife speechless. Well, for just a moment mind you. Mark
  12. This is a shout out to Moray James for recommending across multiple forums the benefits of placing Forte II's on taller than stock stands. After removing the stock risers I placed mine on 14 inch stands. The improvement is just amazing. The mid-range and stereo imaging are significantly better than before. I guess getting the mids to ear level is what makes the difference. Thanks Moray! Mark
  13. Still searching. Thanks for any help you can give.
  14. I was trying to learn if I was missing something about how Pandora treats recording artists compared to other forms of electronic mediums. I don't think the recording artists have a history of being treated generously by the record labels. Pretty sure it's been going on like that for years and years. Mark
  15. I listen to Pandora several times each week. I suppose I'm a dumba$$ for signing up to pay their monthly subscription for a slightly higher quality signal and no commercials. There's a much wider variety of music than Sirius XM in my car. Pandora also has a smaller ratio of Beatles songs and no intrusions of the Grateful Dead compared to Sirius XM. I have purchased several albums from new to me artists after hearing them on Pandora. I don't understand the negativity towards Pandora, but like I said I'm probably a dumba$$. Mark
  16. Thanks Michael. I'll search through those states. Mark
  17. I'd like to buy an orphaned Forte II for use as center channel. Anyone either have one to sell or know of someone that might? If someone else has the same need I'd be willing to split a pair with you. Thanks, Mark
  18. I like old cars too! Spend a lot of time attending car shows and auto auctions. Never bought anything, just like to look. Here's one of my favorites: Mark
  19. Thanks for the run down. They must sound pretty good now Mark
  20. Yes let's not forget CSNY. And I really like Joni Mitchell's Miles of Aisles. Woodstock live is worth the price of the whole album.
  21. It's doing exactly what the manual says it will. From owner's manual: Off/Auto/On – When this switch is in the “ON/AUTO” position, the subwoofer will automatically turn “on” when it senses a signal. It will automatically go into “standby mode” after 15-20 minutes with no signal. When this switch is in the “OFF” position, the subwoofer will remain “off” until the switch is manually turned back to the “ON/ AUTO” position. Doesn't look to me like it will power down automatically. HTH, Mark
