  1. I'm so sorry to hear that but glad you all are ok. I guess you are being tested in a big way, hopes that you will emerge in a better way all around.
  2. Do you think i would be able to have a grill with that sweet cover made for my black Quartets?
  3. Those look great. I put my Quartets on some old speaker cabs for now. 10" up, they do sound better and I was able to put them a few inches closer to the wall while retaining a good soundstage.
  4. I don't think $900 is too much. If he had countered with that I might have bought them.
  5. I'm not sure I believe he sold them, he updated his CL yesterday- $1200.
  6. He has them on the CL near me. He dropped the price to $1200. I think he is dreaming.
  7. You're gonna let those two grumpy grandpas run your life?
  8. I don't think he's a good one at all really. He could, and should have played out his part in season one.
  9. I know who I won't be considering a product from.
  10. Chuck just put a big blanket on the show right from the start.
  11. You are correct on the original tweed amps. I loved my Fender tweeds. The new tolex looks great though. It would be a hard sell with my wife. She just gave me a dirty look. She loves the black finish on the Quartets.
  12. Another factor in HT, which is connected with visual aesthetics, is the seating closeness to the screen. For example a 55" screen requires one to be seated at 7-8 feet from the screen to get HDTV quality. Because of this we moved our HT room to our smaller former audio room. http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html#anchor_13194
  13. Has anyone seen or done something like a tweed tolex wrap on their Klipsch's with tweed grill cloth? I love the Fender tweed amps.
  14. So, I checked the tweeters and they already have the Titanium diaphragms. Now I'm gonna check the crossovers. No wonder they sound so good?
  15. I put them up on 4" inch blocks, and they sound better, no bass loss, good imaging. They really thump, I didn't expect that. Toed in, they have a nice center image and soundstage. They play so clean, even when loud. I measured a Bruce Cockburn tune I was listening to and it was 80db. So many speakers sound strained at that level.
  16. That's an awesome system. I'm just using them in my two channel set up. I think I may try lifting them a bit, like you did with those nice cabinets. when I stand up the bass is much better than when seated. I tilted them back a couple of inches and that recovered some of it.
  17. That's for sure, the volume dial is hardly cracked on that amp. I played in bands for decades and this is real live sound, not a facsimile.
  18. I picked up some nice Quartets this afternoon and have been running them all night. What a revelation (to me). Now I understand the dynamics, immediacy and the 'live in the room sound'. I'm not hearing any horn honk, harshness or all of the negatives I've read and expected. As soon as I lit them up my wife said "these are the best you have". The vocals sound very natural, the bass is very solid, strong output. The top end is not as extended or airy as the EMIT ribbons in my VMPS speakers. The soundstage is not out in front of the speakers as much as the planar mids, slightly less 3d imaging. But everything else is better. It just sounds live. The dynamics of horns, guitars, drums, much better. Vocals more natural. I have them out 20" from the wall, it's a big room. they fill it. I don't hear the boxiness some complained of, in smaller rooms with the speakers too close to the back wall. I hear no reason to damp the horns or mess with the mid horn. I'm guessing the titanium diaphragms will give me the extension I want in the tweeters. I'm very happy with these. I should mention I am using a big high current CODA amp 200 watts per channel at 8ohms 400 at 4ohms. But, The IRL preamp I have is very neutral sounding with variable gain settings. I'm on the lowest setting.
  19. Thanks, that's my idea as well. They look very sharp in the photos, but are black, unfortunately. However, I read your old refinishing thread So if I keep them I might do that too.
  20. Some very clean Quartets popped up today on CL in the town nearby and I'm picking them up this evening. I couldn't turn down $250 and this will help me decide if I still want to pursue a Chorus II or Forte II. I'm pretty pumped.
  21. An epay pirate in Wash. just listed a pair for $1200. Idiot.
