  1. The factory ate the repairs on a pair of La Scala ii’s? I assume you are original owner. The drivers should be the same. But may have changed a little over the years. The phenolic diaphragms may have degraded in your old tweeters after 10+ years too. I heard a little break in on my LS ii. But seemed over at less than 50 hours. Give them another week.
  2. Justlet everyone know when they are available. Want mine unfinished. Walnut, ash, cherry, do not care. Even Paw-Paw is fine.
  3. I thought my LS iii were acting up. Ended up being they revealed a couple issues on the digital side. My old speakers sounded fine with the same digital front end.
  4. I had a pair of the 801 Matrix S2. They were very nice. Extremely flat frequency response. Wide range also. If the Anniversary is S1 it is not as good as the S2. I think the S2 is better than latter models also. Dynamics is the weak link for the B&W. It is the strength of the Klipschorn.
  5. Return for refund. There is something that fails while powered up. Could be electronics, a capacitor, even drift in a component that has made a loop unstable. It will not get better and your speakers are not the issue.
  6. Dave, That is a work of art. Think I need two pair of these horns. One to install and another to look at.
  7. I used to turn logs at a sawmill during the summers in Cheatam County. Rough cut some went to Bruce for hardwood flooring, the rest to tie yard for railroad cross ties. Only local wood to avoid is poplar. It has to be dried with air gap to prevent turning black. That locust is forever. Fence post material. A couple stumps will make dozens of horns. The sawmill may have some nice material laying around the yard. It would be an added bonus to use locally sourced blanks for this product..
  8. With the evolution seen in crossovers even in the iii series of speakers, has the cabinet issue been addressed by the Factory? If the plinth was coming loose, Klipsch would look at construction and make changes to eliminate. They are committed to building quality products. Need to look inside my pair. They seem to be rock solid. They are also recent builds, not early production Heresy iii.
  9. I had digital front end issues. Too clean. Was using software upsampling. Playing files at native resolution is more natural now. Also played with power supplies for dac. Real happy with SQ now.
  10. That is a work of art. I am sure they will sound more organic and less metallic than the MAHL. It will eliminate the plastic sound of the stock horns too. Think I need a pair of these when available. Walnut is fine.
  11. I have thought about modding my Klipsch speakers. The new versions are very well voiced. Not sure they will be “improved” with caps and wire. For caps forget Electrolytics or similar type such as Black Gate or Cerafine. A nice film and foil are the ticket. I like tin foil, some prefer copper. For less money there is aluminum. For cost is no object there are silver foil caps. The caps in your speakers most likely are metalized film. For wire, that would be easy. Magico uses Canare Star Quad to internally wire their loudspeakers. It is what I use for speaker wire, as a bi-wire set not as Star Quad. I think the 4S6 would be perfect for tweeter and mids. May be enough for woofer too. But mine are staying stock for now. Never opened up to look inside. Moray’s comments on HIII cabinets is interesting. They look very solid from the outside.
  12. Maybe I need measurements on the MCM 1900’s. My doors are all 36” x 80”. My wife might pack up and go if a pair of those shows up the next time she does a “girls trip” for few days. The last few big purchases I made were here waiting on her return.
  13. My recent experience shows sometimes the speakers are just revealing of issues elsewhere. Check your source. At least this is where my issue was. I was ready to replace the tweeter driver and horn in my speakers to “fix” a hardness when recordings peaked. Now they are clearer.
  14. I am sure the MCM1900 are incredible. In my case the La Scala’s are a little too large for the area they sit in. Life is full of compromises.
  15. I am getting old. The looks of equipment does matter today. Even in “my” listening area. My wife hated a pair of B&W 801 S2, has never commented on the La Scala ii sitting in the same spot. The LS are maybe 50% larger and almost cubes. Think it is the all wood. No black. At my listening levels the Pro series does not offer much over the Heritage. Loud is maybe low 90’s. If I still cranked it up that might be different. And I like three ways better than two ways. Played with and carried too many A7’s and other big two ways to love them anymore. So one vote for Heritage.
  16. Knock, knock on wood. Have used mainly DIY amps, preamps, and phono stages for 20 years. No smoke so far.
  17. A 12 meter single ended analog cable can be an issue. Since it is a subwoofer not as much. Something like a guitar cable may be perfect. Usually large conductor and braided shielding. My sub has XLR connections. Balanced cabling is better for long runs. Does not look like that is an option with the 9090.
  18. For quality, extract ISO file from SACD. Convert to 96/24 for playback. CD - Redbook 44.1/16 is fine. Vinyl rips to 96/24 can be excellent also. The black between notes is deeper with high resolution files.
  19. I have bought and built both. Have not purchased or built tube gear in 15 years. Just finished an amplifier. The two graphs show 5w at 1K and 18w at 400 Hz. These levels are much higher than the amplifier operating level driving LS ii at sane level. A friend ran a these tests, takes special test equipment. Many tube amps do not have a noise level at -140 dB. Noise.pdf
  20. Do you need a 12 meter cable? 40’ is a long run for a single ended analog cable. I build my own. For a 40’ run of single ended either a instrument (guitar) cable or mic cable would be perfect. For a RCA to RCA I use an Eichmann connector. Think the original are better than KLE. But for subwoofer duty any decent plug is fine. Amazon can fix you up. But Guitar Center will have the the instrument cable locally. May have 1/4” TS connectors instead of RCA. One item on matching the sub to the La Scala. In my system the efficiency of the La Scala and amplifier is higher than the active sub. The software crossover I use allows padding down the main speakers. When I was using a pair of 86 dB efficient speakers the amplifier and sub could have the same level in the crossover with the sub gain turned down a little. Now the sub is +9 dB with respect to mains in the crossover settings and the sub analog gain is maxed.
  21. The frequency response graphs look very close except in the top end. I am not sure if two K-55-X and two A-55G graphed would not show the same differences below 5K Hz. I am learning. Did not know the K-55-X has alnico magnets. I would think the cobalt content drives the pricing way above 300.00/pr.
  22. Dean, I will reach out to Bob. I should have looked. The label on the driver shows they are K-55-X.
  23. Is the K-55X the driver currently used in new production La Scala ii? Seems pretty good.
