  1. Capitol One Stadium or Arena ? Capital One Arena is an indoor arena - home of the Washington Wizards NBA team and the NHL Washington Caps hockey team. Capitol One Field was an outdoor field formerly part of the University of Maryland football stadium in College Park MD. The reason I ask --- one venue(Arena) is indoors and the other(Stadium) is outdoors. The outdoor venue recently replaced their outdoor sound system.
  2. I have 5 Cornwalls - all made in the 1980 - 1983 range. To my ears and my musically inclined kids these speakers sound great. I drive them with a variety of electronics and listen to a variety of music. Compared to many other alternatives these speakers meet my needs and I have no desire to swap these out for anything except perhaps CW IV.
  3. EVs are not a foregone conclusion at all. The limitations of EV vehicles are not being discussed and debated as they should be. EVs are a very limited use case platform where efficiency and range are greatly impacted by temperature and weather conditions (See what happened in Nicole and snow). Toyota is not all in on EVs and the environmental impact of strip mining the world for battery production is dangerous to all forms of life. Take a look at what the charge is to replace a battery after it's lost efficiency. Also what is the EV worth in trade with a depleted battery ? These are only the tip of the iceberg of issues with EVs.
  4. My advice - Cornwalls or bust ! Of course I am biased as I currently have 5 Cornwalls = circa 1982 - 1985.... Your Marantz equipment is primo - reward yourself with something equal to the task - if you must go to an alternate go LaScala or K-Horns. You only live once - and life is short ...
  5. My early Polk 10 Monitors were picked up at the factory in Baltimore MD which was a small warehouse leased by Matthew Polk, a physicist working at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab --- he was a great guy - very personable - thorough in his approach and very detailed oriented. Someone is missing out on superior speakers that can not be touched for this kind of money. The top audio critics back in that day had these speakers on their recommended list. Buy with confidence !
  6. Louisiana --- Fats Domino - Ernie K. Doe -- Slim Harpo Michigan adds who was unfortunately omitted earlier - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Mary Wells, Jackie Wilson .. New York - Billy Joel New Jersey - The Four Seasons with Frankie Valle
  7. West Virginia - Bill Withers Ohio - The Ohio Players Illinois - The Dells - Lou Rawls New Jersey - Blues Traveller
  8. Georgia - James Brown and the Famous Flames - Little Richard DC --- Marvin Gaye - Billy Stewart - Chuck Brown (father of Go Go) Michigan --- Rare Earth - Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels - Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - The Supremes - The Four Tops - Jr. Walker and the All Stars Mississippi - Elvis Virginia - Bill Deal and the Rhondels - Minnie Ripperton Pennsylvania the Delphonics Arkansas - Al Green Missouri - Chuck Berry
  9. I am original owner of a pair of Monitor 10s circa 1977. Still work and sound great = mine are walnut veneer - I have the original Polk Audio stands. I powered mine with a Hafler DH-200 and similar pre amp. To augment these I also have a pair of LF-14 subwoofers which are Monitor 10 cabinets minus the tweeters. I will watch this as I have been thinking of unloading these - as I have 5 Cornwall 1s circa 1982 - 84 that I now use. GLWS ...
  10. Being a child of the 1950a Seals and Croft came on the scene in the late 1960s - early 70s with a beautiful distinct sound - Summer Breeze being such a wonderful beautiful uplifting song ... Diamond Girl .... another uplifting inspiring love song .... Sorry to lose Mr. Seals .. what a legacy left for all to enjoy forever.... RIP ....
  11. I have 5 Cornwall Series 1 speakers in a 5,1 setup with a Velodyne sub. But I am in a single family home and these reside downstairs in a large family room. Modded Hafler and HK power with a Crown driving the Velodyne. And vinyl played by a Kenwood KD-500 / Mayware Formula IV / Sonus Red and a Technics DVD-Audio / CD machine that rivals Oppo. Works for me ....
  12. I have a Hafler DH - 200 that I've owned for many years and I second the earlier comment about that MOSFET design. These amps are cheap and easily updated with new components as needed. I currently use a DH - 200 with my Cornwalls from circa 1983 - with APT Holman preamp - these do well in a simple 2 channel system.
  13. I have not bought or heard the Cerwin Vega(CV) CVA subwoofers --- however many years ago I purchased a very limited production Cerwin Vega product known as the 320 system, which featured a combination of horns and bass reflex technology. The 320 system included a mid range / high frequency cabinet utilizing horns augmented by a passive bass reflex subwoofer downward firing commode cabinet. These systems played extremely loud with very low distortion and the sound was in a word - impressive. The creator and owner of CV - Gene Czerwinski - was a aerospace engineer who developed sound reinforcement systems for Fender, and both indoor and outdoor concerts and the home systems he designed were robust and leveraged his knowledge and experience gained from the commercial side of the business. His motto was "Loud is Beautiful ...if it's Clean (meaning high volume low distortion sound was his passion). Many never saw or heard the 320 systems - most people's impression of CV were formed through their exposure to the basic floor standing cabinets containing three way system components or the movie "Earthquake". His 320 system was demoed against many high end audio systems at many of major audio shows throughout the states in the 1970s and his home products had a solid following. The 320 was expensive, large and heavy - so it's market was small - but it's performance was impressive. Many reviewers associated the CV name with loud rock music and not much else. The 320 system proved otherwise. He sold the company off in the 1980s and in 2003 -2004 CV declared bankruptcy . The current company uses the CV name - and does build systems that in some ways mimic the old CV.
