  1. Not to frustrate you further, but 1/8" mini plugs represent about the least amount of contact you can get in a connector, it's two rounded objects, arranged tangentially to each other - next to NIL in terms of surface contact.
  2. You don't want to add any coating that will add MASS, mass is the enemy of light, fast cones.
  3. Decorators are a different cut list and assembly type. Notice that instead of a box with a motor board inset, the Decorator has a motor board that extends the entire height of the cabinet. Viewed straight on from the front, you see no end grain of the top and bottom panels. Possibly a stronger cabinet style but more difficult assembly. In finer veneers the look magnificent.
  4. over the years, there might be some slight sag to the accordian surround and spider (the orange zig zag material holding the voice coil centered in the gap). Rotating the woofer might assist in keeping this sag to a minimum.
  5. Man those are really beautiful, and the sales price looks to be less than the cost of the lumber. Can I ask how you trimmed the edges out?
  6. arrrrggghhhhh ! You would want all 4 for proper sound with any system. The pallet would have to be custom as they're about 6' wide. I recall building such a monstrosity with Marshall Groomlakearea51 in FL when I shipped a set of MCM and KP600 from FL to Indy.
  7. yes, I break out into an *** hole
  8. the electrons don't really care I prefer to tin mine with polecat grease (apologies to M. Python)
  9. That's a nifty little system, make a heller for shop/backyard barbeques!
  10. Did you guys know that basically this is the RSW15 magnet structure on a 12" basket?
  11. Klipschorn, AK5 network, Cherry, 2006, 49th week, s/n 0001 how am I doing with my decoder ring fellas?
  12. The last 'non oval copper' pro badges I've seen were either 1x3 or 2x6 with no red lines, just chrome colored plastic with PSA attached.
  13. Checking KP456 is not a KPT904 necessarily. It's an older model, similar a bit to the KP450 which was a dual 15 with a 'belle' like 500hz horn in a separate top bin.
  14. hmm, I had a three pack of those I took to a local theater they worked fine never inside them. Have another three on the way for here from Bill Hendrix but not for another month. WIll be talking to Trey this weekend will check with him. N has integral networks so on the mounting terminals there should be marked outputs for the HF cabinet, have you isolated them ok? Many times (like on the KP600), there was individual inputs for each driver for testing - very handy in the pro environment. So that may be the case as well as the ability to wire 4 or 16 ohms. Perhaps someone unhooked woofers in yours, very odd situation I'll agree there. They are in the same enclosure, so one dead driver would change the acoustic parameters of the cabinet to the operational driver. IOW I'd not leave them like that. While into it, check drivers for continuity. Perhaps someone disconnected the internal networks, who knows?
  15. those lazer lines are highly prized collectors items.
  16. placement tip - put those surrounds somewhat near a wall boundary and aim the tweeters 'pod' toward the wall for a more distributed ambient sound. The 5800 types are similar in voice to the Reference line, and also feature some tone-tailoring switches. I have the R5800C in my kitchen area and they rock pretty good. Another tip is whether wall or ceiling mounted, don't utilize the entire cavity for the back box (particularly for in-ceiling types between floors of homes or in attic spaces.) Limit the cubic inches to a foot or two by packing some insulation on either side of the speaker within the wall stud or ceiling joist cavity.
  17. You guys are off to a great start, I counted 150 Klipsch boxes here at one time..
  18. Use a very thin application after shaking the container gently (to stir in the solids but avoid bubbles). Wipe excess after 10 minutes. A thick coat will get gummy, and more Watco can be used to thin and remove any excess application. it's the rubbing that really brings the shine and beauty of the wood. Stephen Phillips Senior Tech used to say - oil once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year. That's a bunch of coats, but you get the general idea. Don't expect a quick once-over to give you the depth of finish that you can achieve with a multiple step process. Elbow grease guys.
  19. no adhesives, just a thin foam gasket. Yes press from behind but don't bang on the magnet with hard hammer, rubber mallet on wood block best bet.
  20. Mine are minty black fibreglass and I wouldn't let them go for a penny less than this. And NO they're not for sale. These are exemplary and quite beautiful.
  21. A friend brought another alnico K77 over today. We measured three of them with pink noise and RTA, they were ALL OVER THE PLACE. Looks like I'm search of a pair of nice matched tweeters. And I've probably sold a dozen or cabinets with K77's in them over the past 6 months. arrggh
