  1. Buddy Guy & Junior Wells Play The Blues Other than the US and Canada, what country hosted the most Grateful Dead concerts?
  2. I have a pair of Klipsch outdoor speakers. I think they're SA-2s or something similar. They're white and can take any weather but probably wouldn't blend in too well. They don't look like rocks but they do rock! The rock speakers don't sound as good but they do look like rocks!
  3. I love my tubes but if I never stumbled across this forum, I would still have the best sounding system on my block running stock 1980 Cornwalls and a vintage 1975 Kenwood KR-9600 receiver with 160 wpc of pure SS bliss.[]
  4. Both my Scotts/Cornwalls are dead quiet when the volume is all the way down.[] Not so when the volume is turned up. My VRDs/BBX/Khorns have hiss even with no volume. It doesn't bother me at all and I can't hear it with music playing. I use cheater plugs and had my electrician install stand-alone outlets for my system and there is still noise. I haven't tried lifting the ground. It's too heavy.
  5. Holy moly! Are you the original owner? Ever smell anything burning and couldn't figure out from where? That's pretty scary. I'm guessing whoever replaced that woofer did so because the original went up in flames!!
  6. That was devastating to watch. Coming back the way we did only to lose on a last second shot? Mich St. couldn't miss a 3-pointer all day. What a bummer! []
  7. Couldn't help but notice the "old school" Kenwood receiver in the right rack. I still have the one I bought when I was 16 and it still sounds great!
  8. Very nice! I'd like to see a wider shot of those decorator Heresys. Are those the Cornscalas or the Cornwalls underneath? I just looked at your list of components. You have a lot of nice stuff!!
  9. I second that. I also used the rubber insulation after trying cheaper foam stuff I had lying around the house. Not a HUGE improvement but it certainly made a noticable difference. Any time you can improve the sound quality for less than $20, it's a no-brainer.
  10. My guess is the darker color is black but why not ask a neighbor just to be sure? You probably want them correct just in case, or at least I would. You could put them out of phase with the midrange and/or woofer. Another option is to try it one way....listen....try it the other and see if you can tell the difference.
  11. My corners are far from perfect but that's what insulation is for! Fill in as much as needed and you should be fine. No two rooms are the same so if you aren't getting as much slam, it's probably due to the room, not the speakers.
  12. 1959 is still veneer. Not to worry. Klipsch used excellent quality plywood. First thing to do is get those Heresys in your HT. The Bose and JBL won't match up well in comparison. Use one for a center until you find something better or move the JBLs into the bedroom and use the Heresys in the rear. Just a suggestion. Second, take pictures!! We like pictures, especially of rare and exotic veneers and older models. Show us the logo on the front of the speakers and any other details you can provide. Lots of good info and great people here willing to offer their expertise and help spend your hard-earned money! Welcome to the forum.
  13. Alright. I've been waiting for this post. USNRET - Von, like many other jazz greats of that style, is an acquired taste. I wasn't going to say anything. I was waiting to hear people's "honest" opinions once they got their CDs. If you aren't an experienced jazz fan, you might not like or appreciate Von immediately. Maybe not ever. In fact, you might have no idea how anyone can listen to music that is so off key. Craig likes to call it "random horn blowing." It's not for everyone. Allan has been a huge jazz fan forever and that's pretty much all he listens to. He hears things in the music many of us do not. Sit down with him for an hour and watch him as he enjoys a song he's heard a thousand times and you'll understand what I mean. I love jazz but it's not the same for me as it is with Allan, however I'm sure he doesn't appreciate a good Grateful Dead jam the way I do. There are plenty of great jazz albums and if you want a slam dunk, I'd be happy to provide you with a few that you will absolutely love. Send me a pm if you want help "finding your style." I was there not too long ago myself and I have a pretty good idea what to suggest.
  14. I'm more curious about the Manley "Jumbo Shrimp" preamp. I thought Mark took somewhat of a risk using fruit.........but Jumbo Shrimp? Seems kind of fishy to me.[]
  15. Email me a sample file. It should be easy.
  16. Just send your tweeters to Bob Crites (BEC) for new diaphrams and a once over. It's relatively inexpensive and he'll make sure they are working properly. He's a stand up guy.
  17. In my situation the "deal" was, pick up the Khorns within 10 days and they're free because we are moving and don't want them anymore. I paid him a service by hauling them out of his 12 car garage. I didn't wait 10 days; I was there the next morning.[] Did I mention the elevator from the garage (the bigger of the two garages - used to store his many sports cars) to the living quarters and sliding glass doors with sensers like you'd find at a Walmart entrance leading to the indoor pool area? It was quite a place!
  18. I also think the Coen brothers are genius! Maybe I need to see No Country again. It just didn't do it for me the first time around. Actually, I'm looking forward to their remake of True Grit which is supposed to come late this year if I remember correctly.
  19. Keanu was horrible but I still loved the movie. When I see it on cable I just can't turn the station for some reason. I don't always see eye to eye with the academy either. No Country For Old men? Sorry. I just didn't see that as a best picture either. BTW - I haven't seen any of this year's movies. I do want to see Avatar while it's still in the theaters but my wife won't go. That kind of stuff hurts her eyes.
  20. It's definitely the speaker since you swapped channels and it stayed with the same speaker. Like USNRET said, figure out if it's the tweeter, midrange, woofer or all three. That should narrow things down. It could be the crossover. Where are you located? I have spare Cornwall crossovers if that's what you suspect. Maybe someone in your area does also. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
  21. As I've stated before, I spent 23 happy years with a Kenwood receiver and a pair of 1980 Cornwalls. If not for this forum and the chimney fire that brought me here in 2003, I would be completely tube ignorant and my TT would still be sitting in a box collecting dust in the crawl space underneath my house.
  22. I don't believe any of this nonsense I'm hearing! Tube equipment doesn't come close to the sweet & smooth yet lovely detailed sound you get from solid state. I still kick myself every day for wasting all that money on VRDs and Blueberrys, especially AFTER blowing all that cash on my Scott 299b! You would think I'd have learned my lesson. But NOOOOOO!! Spend, spend spend!! Tubes, tubes, tubes. How foolish can one group of audio nuts get? Oh, and don't get me started on vinyl!!! Time for a yard sale. [:@]
  23. Nice score! I assume these are walnut oil finish? If so, don't use Murphy's. BLO is what Klipsch recommends. Some here like tung oil or lemon oil. Murphy's works well with lacquer finishes.
  24. Just velcro dots. Often they stop working after time and need to be replaced with new velcro. I've been lucky. My original velcro is still working fine, probably because I haven't pulled the grills off but once or twice in the past 25+ years. I haven't been as lucky with my '79s. I replaced all the velcro in that pair and also replaced the grills with a pair from '76 that have the laser logos.
  25. Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new Cornwalls! Can you post pictures? We could tell you immediately if the grills are original. Do your badges have laser like lines running horizontally? If so, they are the correct badges for '77s and are very desireable. If you decide to rebuild your grills, hold on to the badges. Below are my '80 Cornwalls. The badges should be different. These of course are a sample of original black grill cloth .
