  2. HiThebes, Unfortunately not. What I actually need are the hub adapters. The 7 1/2 fit right onto the spindle, the 10 have a hole about 2 3/4 inches. These fill the gap. I appreciate it though. Still gonna take you for a dinner at Plainville Farms when you're up near Syracuse again. Thanks, Win
  3. A shameless, but very needed bump. Even a definite lead will do.
  4. But then we still must digress. First the megaphone. Then then Horn reproduction of Cylinder Recordings. Then the breakthrough to what are commonly called Victrolas - a 78 rpm ususally approximately one inch thick Diamond Disc. A breaktrough again with wire recorders. Then the for mat found tape. Usually sticky, but they decided upon iron oxide to have it particles aligned to match the music played,or spoken. Magnets charged by electricity did so. In the interim, loud speakers gained by being charged them selves - thus the 4 wire format leading to the two wire format. And in the end: a Driver is active with passives added. There are various magnet composition, Alnico being the most sought after, ceramic being the norm today. So if all of this confuses you, or any of the above - the serious parts of mine- they enlighten you that's what we try to do with some humour, which may only be funny to the author. However, it's a darned good question!!
  5. Help!!! I'm in the middle of taping a project. I have a Sony TC-755 which can take either 7 1/2 inch reels or 10 inch with adaptors. One is cracking so I HAVE to stop EVERYTHING. Does anyone have either the Sony BAB or the spring held adpaptors that will work? Please PM or Email me (note forum or I don't open) and tell me what you want for one or a pair. Not a single studio has any spare in Rochester. Thanks, Win dodger
  6. Thanks Royster. You and a few others have been on minds. Thank You. Win
  7. I apologize for coming in late, but vintage should have a class that is worth more. For example, my Vintage McIntosh Amplifiers: every quarter I do a print out of value from Audio Classics, McIntosh Rerurbishers in Knoxville, and any that are similar on AudiogoN. I also check with my local dealer. They will say Blue Book value. You then have several other sources that show Blue Book is not the proper price. I also print out eBay Auctions which show an open, bidding market. Insurance Companies can be a pain. When my wife was in an accident, car a total loss, I had photos of the accident scene, photos taken 3 weeks prior, and I had the dealer print out every time any work was done to the car. Settlement is usually 2 - 3 times medical bills, time lost. She will work with broken ribs. But the first time I spoke with them to settle, I told them exactly what was wanted - $10,000 which was low. Offer $4500, 5,000, 5,500, 6,000. Adjuster kept talking how much lawyers would take, court costs, etc.. When he said 6,000 was his last offer, I stated, "my God-Daughter's Mother is an Attorney, I have served legal papers part time for more than 20 years. I have photos of the scene, your driver was tagged, someone went in and represented themselves as my wife to the lease Corp.." "As you now have totally insulted me, I have the film of the mis-rep, photos of scene, injuries each week, and I had to take over all household duties. I am notifying you that this conversation is being taped, though I don't need to, we will file for $50,000 and I will file separately for $10,000 for loss of consortiu, plus added duties. A check for 10,500 arrived the next day.
  8. The title could be change to the sad truth about U.S. aid to 9/11 victims families. It carries to the point of the Extra Security measures developed and put in place. It also carries to the extra Security for large events. As one of the biggest jokes, most believe that the person passing you through the Metal Scanner is a sworn Officer. In my County they are paid Civilians. When the color alerts were in place each time the threat was raised, days off were canceled, wherever Auxiliary Police are use, they were called out, Special training all of that was a portion of a packagae to be paid for on the Federal Level. If any monies were received it was only a tenth of what was said to be coming. Additional Officers, EMS Teams, Airport Drills, Bomb Sniffing dogs. I live near the Canadian Border. With all of the Identification I have within a couple of years, Passports will be required. So it doesn't surprise me about the. If given, it sits and collects interest or goes for something else, or highly paid overseers. The biggest problem is that Joe Citizen will read the articles, say what good am I doing and not give.

  10. That's the prblem with a number of people today - no respect for tradition. Money, money , money. We have a former subway tunnel that our dear mayor has over the last 8 years paid out of state companies $750,000 to study what to do with it. Received many reccomaendations, transit being a target. About 8 days ago the decision was made to spend $23 million dollars ( now the School District is in the red as is the City) to fill it with dirt. At least the way it is now it affords some shelter to vagrants. We also have a fast ferry to to Toronto that is costly enough and slow enough that it's better to go by car. But the first company abruptly ceased operations, leaving Canadians stranded here in Rochester and Americans stranded in Toronto. Buses wound up bring them home. But the company running the mess, gets all of the retail rent and pays the City $1.00 per year. The mayor is ticked that the deals was found out. So please wish your Klipsch Dealer the best and refuse to shop at any store that goes in there.
  11. The silicones we have here state whether they are corrosive or not. That was compliments of our Attorney General. I'll try to track some names of those that are not.
  12. Sobriety Check-point: Would you step out of the car sir, escorts the driver to the patrol car, would you sleep with this woman (can be any relative), You WOULD, yes, I would, You have the right to remain silent...
  13. Are you considering a lawsuit against the plastic surgeon that did that to your face? The best part of you ran down your father's leg
  14. This is woman that should avoid swimming near anyone fishing. Gives a whole new meaning to "I hooked One!" Post 3200

  16. If you can find an Ortofon, those mate well with a large number. I also believe that Shure is still making the M-97 which isn't a slouch.
  17. I czn recommend anything by Bob Seger. But His Greatest Hits CDs Volume one and his more recent Volume 2 show blues, rock and ballad. There are a number of sides to Seger, they all come out. Thta includes one of the best guitar solos - on Like A Rock.

Perhaps the answer is (to the seller) that if people buy it, it's justified. To me, it's simply not a serious consideration. To me it's a "go figure" question that some folks take such things seriously. Excessive steel on amps is the same as cable piers and battery powered interconnects. I actually think better of high dollar Rolex watches, they look so cool, than this kind of audio gear. However, my Wal-Mart quartz Casio nerd watch at least matches the accuracy of the finest Rolex. It works for me. (BTW, anyone who wants to give me a Rolex for Christmas is welcome to do so, and it's my preference over an amp of the same price). Look what I can save you on shipping! Hopefully I'm not being self righteous about it, but even if I had, say $6K to spend on a preamp, I think I'd still buy my Peach all over again. What a heck of a sweet spot value is this? True enough! To me, aside from music that sounds so good it's bliss, which is a joy... part of my enjoyment comes from NOT spending a mega bucks to get that sound. In fact, there have been lots of smiles on this forum every time (and it is a common occurance) someone posts on having observed the indignation of a buddy at hearing the forum member's "budget" system that beat the socks off the buddy's megabucks system. Sometimes I feel like the hayseed, redneck, shade tree mechanic whose old Dodge 440 Magnum just beat (or matched) a Corvette off the line. Yep, I was chewing on a broom straw when that city feller asked me if I was man enough to race my POS Dodge. I just laugh all the way to the sweet spot in my listening room. Maybe a new tagline is in order... Klipsch Nerds Unite! ---------------- A Mopar Man - A Klipsch Man - and a good watch man. In 1984, my Nieces bought me a Timex. As needed I always kept it set for the 24 hours. Since then, I have only had to buy three batteries, three Spiedel Twist-o-Flex watch Bands. Cracked the crystal about a year ago, clear nail polish seals it. Extremely accurate. And I ran my Challenger against a 'Vette. 'Vette only started pulling away at 110. Like my Father would say, well you were young and stupid...Now you're only stupid.
  21. Ed has a lot of it right. We have the Reference and McIntosh Dealer I like, 2 snob stores, one used and then the chains. The rest have been forced out.
  22. As a couple of posts mentioned Insurance, it really does not cost that much more to cover evrything. The Insurance Companies want at least 80%, I have 100 % with a $100.00 deductible. I have Liberty Mutual, Replacement Cost. Break-down We do get a discount for alarms, fire extinguisher on each floor, smoke/fire detectors, deadbolts. Also discount for having both cars insured with them. House assessed at $50,000.00 Because of Gumwood trim, leaded glass, actual plaster, and due to age real 2x4s, Detached 1 1/2 car garage. If the house completely burned, to replace $124,000.00, contents are insured for $90,000.00 Cost per year $565.00. At this point I am hard pressed to recommend Monitored alarms. The number of companies that have to dial 11 digits to check to see if it's an accidental trip. If not, They need a 10 digit number (plus the 1) to reach your emergency services. My City is stretched thin for Officers due to retirements and call ups for Iraq. But try dialing 11 digits, let it ring 4 times, hang up, dial a second number of 11 digits, while you are on the phone the info is being transmitted. But, if there is a higher priority call, yours will have to wait. You can't blame the alarm company, you can't blame the Police - prioroty - husband beating wife or house break-in where do you send the Officers you have, keeping in mind a Domestic requires two cars because of the number of times both have turned on the Officers or you have a group to disperse. Then if you don't have the 80% the insurance companies start deducting how much they will pay. I do not mean to embarass him, but Dr Who is going to School - the cost of his text books plus computer, clothing - every semester he's gets drilled in costs.
