thebes
I wonder who you can get to fix it. (check out the picture on the right hand side, 3 down) http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-High-end-tube-amp-hand-made_W0QQitemZ170285032121QQihZ007QQcategoryZ50593QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
NOSValves
That was originally sold as a prototype of the first VRD-ST-45 and picked up here without packaging. That customer traded it for a $3000 or $4000 set of speakers...he couldn't turn down the one sided deal. The new guy sold it without ever using it here on the this forum....and shipped with less then reasonable packaging VIA isured Canadian post.... Canadian post paid the full claim from what I was told and I believe kept the amplifier (not sure)... Now this guy selling it on eBay I have no idea who he is...but I wondered often what ever happened to the amp. Obviously he knows zero about its history. Please folks do not flood my inbox with how much to fix the amp.... I'll tell you right now it takes more labor to fix that amp then to build a new one so the answer is ALLOT...... So if you buy it buy it real cheap or not at all. Craig
nu2toobs
Boy, I'm glad I dodged that when it was first offered. I almost ended up with that mess, but fortunately the seller was almost impossible to deal with. I tried to warn people when it was up for sale here. fini
I wonder who you can get to fix it. I'm pretty sure it's still under warranty...
seti
I hate to see that happen. Everytime I buy or sell an amp I get nervous about the shipping. Craig, how do you like the VA350B tubes?
Audio Flynn
Maybe I should buy it as a parts unit for when my grandkids need a replacement transformer in 2057.

Yea, ignore his post above, I'm sure that a 2 day turnaround and free repair are included, you just need to pay shipping. [6]
tigerwoodKhorns
That is (was) a nice amp. Craig, what are the chances that the tranformers or other expensive parts are damaged? Are they pretty durable or will an impact usually ruin them?
Nailbender
I was the unfortunate recipient of this amp. It is good for parts only. I almost puked when I received it wrapped in carpet backing and newspapers in a thin cardboard box. Now I can only dream[] Brian
Tarheel
I feel your pain Nailbender. I have recieved two totaled turntables over the last three years. One guy mailed a Thorens to me with wadded up newspaper for packing without removing the platter or securing the arm[8-)] What recourse do you have ? Insurance? sheltie dave
Nailbender, was the seller honest, or was he difficult to deal with. I bid on this, but had reservations with him oh so carefully editing all the needed corner photos to see the extent of the damage. Was it completely torn up, or did the top plate and transformers take all the damage? I'm concerned that he will duplicate his pisspoor packing job a second time, if you know what I mean>>>... nu2toobs
Brian, I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. The best thing you can do, is buy directly from Craig. You won't be sorry. I can imagine the nightmare you had to deal with, buying from this guy. Then have it damaged to boot.
NOSValves
Dave, That is not the same seller as Nailbender purchased the amp from. The seller Nailbender bought it from knew the entire history and company that made the prototype amp. I believe this seller sourced the amp from the Canadian postal service or something like that. Nailbender
Sorry I didn't reply sooner before the auction ended. As written before, it is good for parts only. The top plate is severly bent and the wood is all split. The transformers seemed undamaged. I plan on buying a VRD when funds permit. While waiting on a refund for this amp I bought a Dynaco 60wpc kit from Bob Latino for my Cornscalas. I'm happy for now. Brian

I can easily make up a wood chassis and have a top plate CNC machined by a good friend. Oh well, I think it went for $300+ with another $100 for shipping. It could have been a fun project.
