BigStewMan
regular unleaded gas at a shell station down the street (Huntington Beach, CA) is currently $3.53 a gallon--i haven't been paying much attention, so i was quite shocked to see that it's gone up that high again. seti
I've been looking at hybrid and electric car but it seems they just aren't that good yet. It seems the really effecient cars won't be on the market until 2013 - 2015. The VW looks the most promising. The Golf gets great mileage as it is and with a few tweaks can get better mileage than most hybrids I've researched. Is anyone else looking at the latest offerings? Mighty Favog
Back when I bought it new, I tweaked my 94' Eagle Talon 2L to get 40mpg for less than $400 when the window sticker only said 27mpg. The car lasted for 194k mi. so, yea, I got my money's worth from the mods. One set of Goodyear RS-A tires even lasted 80k mi. on that thing. Mighty Favog
The big thing is to let it breathe so I installed: -Borla Cat-Back exhaust system -Had the cast iron exhaust manifold ported -K&N drop in air filter (not the Filter Charger Kit - I would have if they made one for it) -Indexed the spark plugs (pointing the open end of the plug gap towards the intake valves) -Ran tire pressures at 33lbs. in the front and 29 lbs. in the rear (stock was 29F and 26R) -Used only 93 gas or better (I would have done this anyway) -Used only synthetic oil (only kind I ever use) -Used cruise control on 65mph highway whenever I could safely. I see what you mean now.... But...no...the correct number is 40-MPG and not 30-mpg. When the car had 180k miles on it, it still got 35mpg. But the guy that had it didnt' keep up on the tire pressures and used a lower quality gas.
Marvel
Regular unleaded is still going for $2.89 to $3.05 a gallon here in north Georgia/Chattanooga, TN area. NON ethanol gas is running about the same price. Bruce
