Chicago_Pete
Been living in the JBL camp for a couple of years and was looking for a change. Last week I put up a post in the for sale section looking for a pair of Khorns. I lucked out, a "good guy" forum member right here in Chicago had a pair for sale. He gave me a great price on a mint pair of 1975's in walnut. I swear they look brand new, couldn't be happier with the transaction. Here is a before pic with the JBL's, the revised Khorn setup, and the front end driving these beasts. The best, Pete
Quiet_Hollow
so...when's the listening party? Textbook K-horn setup. [Y] I've got some Glenlivet 18 single malt I've been trying to cash out, this looks like it'd be the proper excuse.
Rick
Congrats!! Those are some great photos, I like the Les Paul hanging on the wall... [Y] How do you like your VTI racks? I have the same one and love mine...

Audible Nectar
Which JBLs are those? Do they have the S8R kit (LE15 + passive + 375 + 077)? Curious as to your impressions of the change.
Chicago_Pete
Thanks guys. To answer a couple of questions. I like the VTI racks, hard to beat for the money. If you change out your system they are very adaptable. My room is 16 x 25, not ideal but the Khorns seem to work well in it. The JBL's were Sovereigns with the S7R system. Basically a two-way with a passive PR15 radiator. LE15A woofer, LE85 horn. They did a lot of things extremely well.
Audible Nectar
They did a lot of things extremely well..... I'm quite sure they did[] Especially with a pair of MC30s drivin' 'em.......not much doubt in my mind[] I gave consideration to a set of these - both S7R and S8R systems as my "for life mains", and found that much like the Klipschorn, I didn't have the proper space. Even more than the LaScala or Belle, the Sovereign and Apollo cabs need lots of room to breathe. I also gave much consideration to the JBL alnico vintage drivers - the LE85 and the king deluxe, the 375, which possesses midrange energy of the gods, but I found the Klipsch is much more a match to my spaces, and I can still do driver and horn upgrades on the Belles if I ever get the itch (and haven't after five years). I also like what PWK was able to accomplish with much more budget minded - and dare I say, longer lasting designs (foam JBL surrounds, anyone)....and I don't regret the choice one bit. Klipsch is good for me, for a lot of reasons. Looking at your room, I can see how Klipschorns would serve you well. But I can never look at a set of these big old JBLs and wonder "what if...." Chicago_Pete
As much as I liked all of my JBL gear over the years it seems like I always go back to Khorns. This new set is my 3rd pair, think I'm done. The JBL's will not give you that "holy smokes" factor when you feel the need to crank them up. I'm sure a pair of 4350's would but they are out of reach for me. In this pic you could see some of my old JBL collection. I had Appollos and Appollo II's in another room. It was a lot of fun collecting this stuff but it became a hassle taking care of it.

Chicago_Pete
That stuff is all gone. I have one pair of L100's left and a pair of RB35's I just bought a week ago.

That must have hurt, [] speakers are one thing but electronics are hard to let go.
kwingylee
Pete: The Khorns look fantastic in your room! They matched your center cabinets perfectly!!! I am glad they found a good home - to someone that will take care of them and enjoy them. Your JBL collection was flat out awsome., Yes - a listening party is in order.I can't wait to show up and give them a listen. Kwing
angusruler
was the white guitar purchased from eddie roman?
Chicago_Pete
Yes the white Schon was made from one of Ed Roman's body blanks. The red one is all original, number 054. I have a soft spot for pointy headstock guitars.
