Jsaint
Oh there is so much I could say about this but I will keep it simple. The MPAA & RIAA have spent over 94 Million US dollars in bribes to your elected officials so far to give them the power to control who makes money on the internet. When you see the word Pirate think instead of intertwined corporate & political corruption, not some kid downloading a song.

mustang guy
More government interference. Just what we need. Obama has been bridled the past 3 years because he wants to be re-elected 4 more years. If you think it's bad now, wait till the bridle is removed. Look for more regulations, bigger government, socialism, and reduction of wealth. I was no fan of Bush, but this guy is going to turn America into a third world country. I am also not a fan of PAC's and negative campaigning. Every man has feet of clay, and the best candidates wouild never run for President because they do not want to be put under a microscope. The only people running are the ones who were groomed from an early age to look squeeky clean. That's bull, as they have feet of clay as well. In short, the true leaders are behind the scenes pulling strings, or pushing the polititians, whichever you like. Are they good people? Good question! If they are manipulating government for the greater good, then they are fundamentally good. In my opinion they are like the rest of us. They are manipulating government to do for them what is best for them. The right thing to do is to do what is best for the sovernty and safety of this great country. Rant rant rant... elitedemo
Companies like monster trying to dictate and payoff government to protect their "IP's" is nothing more than corporate greed taking hold again. Attempting to shut down blogs, forums, second hand sales like ebay and craigslist. Since when is it wrong to sell used merchandise? Is it me or does it seem like they stole these ideas from the chinese just recently? This falls far passed protecting an entity and an IP this isnt even capitalism anymore. There are always those behind the scenes pulling strings but lately it feels more rediculous and corrupt. None of it is to help and protect people but only to protect and grab more power from those without. These are the reasons behind movements and protests relating to the haves and have nots. Without our business they have no business and would be smart to remember. This is a similiar narcissistic policy that the once good state of WI is following right now as well relating to corporate control. Corporations controlling people and making all decisions for them might be how the inside of a business operatates, but it is not how the country need operate. The countries duties are to its people NOT to corporations it would be wise for those in offices to remember that as well. My biggest disappointment and fear is that bills like these can even come up from those within power. For those in power to be narrowsighted enough to think something like this is ok is what will be our downfall ( insert doomsday speech here)... Mallette
Well, if this gets much more political it will get locked. However, whilst it is not let me state my opinion: SOPA/PIPA is a TROJAN. "Reasonable" and "minimal" but if it gets through the door you can kiss net neutrality goodbye, along with whats left of privacy, free speech, and public access. Groomlakearea51
In before the lock..... But then again if we otherwise leave it alone from the "political" viewpoint, then it may survive as a normal Forum screed on the injustice of big, greedy "audiophile grade" manufacturers....... Dave I agree with the trojan horse theory. The law was written much to broad and inclusive. In trying to protect copyright laws from over seas pirates they ended up punishing and censoring US citizens. The overlying problem is that it would give government control over our internet and thus crush free speech. It is no more than government control of media which infringes on our free speech rights. Notice how all the reps from both sides of the isle backed off when the internet giants flexed there muscle. This is not a party issue it is the governed against the political class. great in before the lock
oldenough
The internet is OURS, and we alone can protect it, that protection is right at your finger-tips....It has never been easier to get your opinion known to the powers that be. Use it or you may lose it. This is one of the few occassions I can think of where we can really make a difference, and believe that will happen.....I'm an eternal optimist....[] PS...Before posting think hard, this is the last topic that should ever be locked. I am not a political person, nor do I hold any really strong beliefs about anything, but this topic really struck me as getting to the core of OUR freedom, as in us the people.
