CIGARBUM
I believe I have a couple respectable sounding systems. Now if you really want to make them sound bad, get hearing aids. I recently got two very high priced digital hearing aids. The first time I turned on the system, boy I have something wrong here, checked everything out and seemed to be functioning fine, went upstairs and tried the other system and same thing. I took the hearing aids out, the systems were back to that wonderful sound I have become accustomed to, these digital things they put in your ears to make you hear better do help hearing most thing better but when it comes audio systems, they suck. There is no 2 channel separation , no sound stage, no nothing. I guess that is the price you pay for in your younger years of too much loud music, too many guns. A year in Viet Nam, that was before they ever hear of ear plugs, that crap would make your ears bleed. The lesson learned, take care of your hearing now and you will still be able to appreciate good music when you get older. I guess for now, take the hearing aids out and turn it up. Enjoy Cigarbum
Panacea Engineering
Fourteen years as a starter, at a dragstrip, didn't help much either. The jungle explosions were light work when compared to ten thousand (10K) horsepower of force fed, Supercharged Nitro burning steel, five feet away from the exhaust......! (Days before rear engines) I shudder to think of the many times that a blower let go, on the starting line, right next to me...talk about luck, as this was before all of the safety systems, that are in place now. Nothing like an Impellar that took out the Christmas Tree on it way to the Spectator Stands. That is nut one of many stories....also watched a 390 Ford spit out four intact/complete pistons (with connecting rod) as they looked like bowiling pins laid out on the strip, evenly spaced apart, about 150' out..... You are absolutely right....PLEASE take care of your hearing, as it doesn't "GROW" back....! Great Post
Moderators dtel Posted April 4, 2012 Moderators Share Posted April 4, 2012 Always wondered what it would sound like with hearing aids, and your exactly right about saving your ears when younger. I have at times thought about boosting the high frequencies a little for my old abused ears but decided not to because for others with normal hearing it would probably sound really bad like that and I'm not the only one listening. JJkizak
According to my uncle with the cocklear implant the doctor told him (Cleveland Clinic) that his brain would have to learn how to tranlate all the jibberish into what the sounds are supposed to sound like. He said "What? JJK

Dennie
Well, this isn't good news. I spent a few years in the Field Artillery. [:S] The good news is, we have pretty efficient speakers, so as you say, take them out and turn it up!!! [<)] I do everything I can today, to protect the hearing I have left. Thanks for the reminder. AnalogWave
Yeah, sage advice that. My downfall is live music and headphones. I've shat myself numerous times as I restart music after a coworker has interrupted me. I suspect a Volume Troll as there is NO WAY I was listening to music THAT LOUD. juniper8
I dont know if this info helps, but my Dad has fairly expensive hearing aids that I think cost around 2500 to 3500 a piece. Where he gets them, on the walls, they have hundreds of pictures of their clients, which include many Presidents, astronauts, foreign dignitaries, pro athletes, musicians even Mother Teresa. One of my favorite pictures is of, Pete Towsend and Roger Daltry, simply because they look so pissed off. I assume that they are about the best in the world. Every time I turn one of my systems on, he takes it out. I always thought that Klipsch should manufacture such things.
Mighty Favog
My wife just got an aid a few months ago and I went with her to pick it up and get it programmed (i.e.- adjust it's internal eq.) by the doc. That doc and I had a wonderful conversation. But I have often wondered what the total frequency range was for that thing. Can it reproduce very low bass so my wife isn't looking at me (more) strangly when I smile and say "Did you hear that!?"
artto
About a year ago I went in for a hearing examine and see if I might need some hearing aides. I have an extremely narrow band loss in my right ear and some overall attenuation. I was kind of amazed at how far things had come in the 6-7 years since my last examine, with the on-screen viewing of my ears and in-office calibration of the $7000 hearing aides. After the doctor got done fine tuning the $7000 hearing aides I was told to go outside and walk around for a while and see how I liked them. After about 15 minutes of listening both with and without the aides in I came to the conclusion that I could hear more difference between two different $7000 speaker systems than I could with or without the $7000 hearing aides.
