Really Old Rock Bands--Geriatric Tour

Several years ago, I got to see Dave Brubeck play. He was 88 at the time, and his energy level was very low. Nevertheless, he and the band seemed to be having fun, and his skills were still intact. The band members were all well over sixty, and Dave joked that he'd written some of his tunes before they were born.

I'm really glad I was able to see Dave Brubeck play while he was still around.

Saw the Eagles when the went through town a couple years ago. Would've went to the Stones if that show was halfway affordable. Would definitely see Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, Queen, Metallica, etc. Any/all of them are far better than the untalented, overhyped, autotuned junk that passes for music today. If you think the "younger" acts can sing...Google Kanye West singing Bohemian Rhapsody and get back to me...enough said...

Google Kanye West singing Bohemian Rhapsody

i saw that a while back...hilarious; but, sad because "he's so talented"  (i just threw up in my mouth after writing that).  Take away auto tune and there are FAR less enjoyable voices out there.   Saw Queen twice last year--still a very good show.  It was nice to see Brian playing some of the early 70s material--he can still flat out play. Also caught The Moody Blues last year...another good show, and Heart.  David Gilmour coming up next.

Last night, I saw Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band.  It was a great show.  The keyboard player was Greg Rollie from Santana, one guitarist was Steve Lukather (5-time Grammy winner) from Toto and the other guitarist was Todd Rundgren.

Richard Page, the singer from Mr. Mister played bass, the percussion/sax player was Warren Ham, of Bloodrock and Kansas, and the second drummer was Greg Bissonette.

At first, I wondered why a second drummer was needed, but it was because Ringo was down in front at centre stage singing about half the time.

The band did some of Ringo's old Beatles songs, along with some of his new ones, and each band member did a few of the songs he was famous for.  Steve Lukather accompanied Greg Rollie on Evil Ways, Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen and Oye como va, and he sounded as good as Carlos Santana.  All the players were good, but Steve impressed me the most.

Unlike the rock concerts from many years ago that started 45 minutes late, this started just after its scheduled time of 8 pm and finished at 10 pm.  I guess the old guys on stage and in the audience don't have time to mess around anymore.

Yes, many in the audience had totally white hair.  It made me feel a bit young.  I remembered seeing lots of older folks the last time I saw Pink Floyd, then I realized that was back in 1994, and we've all aged since then.

I have seen this line-up. Last year. It was a great show. I was very impressed with Steve Lukather, and Todd Rundgren. I think the All-Starr Band is a great idea. For years it has given very talented musicians the opportunity to play on stage again, when they would probably never be able to fill houses or large venues on their own. There were lots of young fans at the one I went to- maybe the casino venue helped.

Most enjoyable!

i agree..The lineup of Ringo's All-Stars that i saw was a good show. I've found many old bands that are still great shows...some have lost it (Stones and last time i heard Kansas was bad).

But, The Moody Blues, Heart, Yes, Queen, Roger Water are all shows i've seen recently (well Roger was several years ago) and were fantastic.  Coming up in March is another old guy -- David Gilmour. I expect his show will be great as well.

Did Ringo sing "With a Little Help from my Friends"?

not sure.  The Ringo show that i saw was a video and i didn't see the entire show.  what i saw, i liked.

the other bands i mentioned, i saw live.

if i had to rank them as to the best...1. Queen, 2. Roger Waters, 3. Moody Blues, 4. Yes, 5. Heart

Queen was great show and good sound. Roger was just like listening to a Pink Floyd album. Yes was good; but, i really miss Rick Wakeman with them. Heart needs to tell their sound guy to do a better job. And powerful vocals are hard to sustain over the years; but, Ann still does a great job.

The good ole bands are fading, and with the quality of concert goers right along with them.

For what is being charged for decent tickys these days, it aint worth it.

Getting the skinney on a few up coming concerts, iv written them off, as the good ole days.

This generation sucks, they can take that additude/Iphone/bad manners and stuff it up their azz.

There are not many I'd care to go see nowadays.  However, if Alice Cooper came to town...

Saw Alice sometime back in Frisco, Melvins opened for him, dam fine concert, his band members were  youngin's so they have the energy of the old days.

Melvins introduced me to what happens standing too close to the stage when they are playing.....MoshPit!

Yes, he did.  When I looked for info about the concert the next day, I came across a helpful website called setlist.fm.

Here's the setlist for the show in Victoria.  There are also setlists for every date on the tour.

When are rock bands like The Stones too old to tour?

When is it just silly and do you go there--in your advanced age

and rock out?  Hahahaha

Sorry, but since when is being old,  silly?  That is a word more closely associated with being too young.

A couple co-workers and myself got to sit next to Alice Cooper at Phoenix Az baseball game back in 2007. I went to Az for a construction inspection, and the project owner gave us a bunch of tickets. They own primo season seats behind the dugout. Alice is apparently a huge diamondback fan, and lives or lived in Phoenix area. He actually talks like an intelligent man, but looks like hammered shyt... I wanted to ask for an autograph, but never did.

And so endith my experience sitting next to celebrities.
