Stubb Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) I got in a pair of Forte IV upgrade kits, PN #1070334. Installation is going fine, but I can't find polarity markings on the HF drivers. Is there a way to distinguish which one gets the green (+) vs black (-) wire? It's labeled: K-107-TI W/HORN Edited February 5, 2023 by Stubb Quote
avguytx Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 There's no color dot or marker of any kind near one terminal? Is one terminal wider than the other? I would guess not as you wouldn't be asking. Lol. As mentioned, a pic might help. Quote

I'm unclear how you're associating left and right. Turn it so the leads are at 12 o'clock, then green is the left terminal and black the right? Thanks! Edited February 5, 2023 by Stubb 1 1 Quote

Can you flip it upside down and take a close up of the terminals? Usually there's either a "dot" od paint for positive or a sometimes hard to see "+" indentation. 1 Quote

I didn't notice it until I hit the terminals with a flashlight to make this picture! Edited February 5, 2023 by Stubb Quote
Stubb Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 I feel a bit better looking at the other driver—I'm not seeing a similar mark on it 😉 1 Quote

I'm clearly missing something. Quote

Stubb Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 Has anyone else gotten this kit? Did you have obvious polarity markings on your HF drivers? I ask because one of my drivers appeared to have a polarity mark (white dot), the other one didn't, and that mark contradicts the wiring picture from @OO1. Quote

It's the mark on one of the drivers that came in my kit (pic below) that makes it a head scratcher. On 2/5/2023 at 10:43 AM, Stubb said: Thanks for looking! Here's a view from the top. Marvel Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 That doesn't, to me, look like a specific marking. Do they both have the same mark? I would tend to connect the same way as the ones that you took out. 1 Quote

The installation instructions say "The tweeter positive terminal will be marked with a (+) symbol, a dot of paint or a colored sticker" so I thought this might be the dot of paint. But odd that only one is marked in this fashion, so maybe it isn't? I've installed mine the way @OO1 suggested and asked Klipsch support for confirmation. Would be easy if this was a woofer: connect a battery and feel which way the cone moves! Edited February 8, 2023 by Stubb Quote
billybob Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Marvel is correct. Just follow the lead from the one that is marked on the unmarked one. And finally after all this, if a tweeter sounds out of phase, just reverse the wiring. Quote
Stubb Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 I used a speaker polarity test app on my iPhone and verified that @OO1 is correct on polarity for my drivers. I posted a picture earlier in this thread showing a mark on one of my tweeters—that mark ended up being where the ground wire got connected 😬 Trust but verify! 1 Quote
tigerwoodKhorns Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 You know this but now that you have this done, get some red finger nail polish from your wife and mark them. I have learned that some flows too easily (probably because she gives me what she doesn't want) and some puts a nice round dot. Works great as a breakable thread locker too. 1 Quote
