They would be my top choice too, along with the Four Skins.

I can see the concert now:

Good topic! 9.gif

I always thought Hootie and the Blowfish was odd (and now that they have broken up--anyone see Triumph the Insult Comic Dog interviewing Darius Rucker? He was asking him about the break-up and said something like, "You were Hootie and the Blowfish, and now you just Blow?")

on a related type of name... members of what would eventually become the Kentucky Headhunters (Greg Martin et al) were playing this area for a while as the 'Duck Butter Blues Band' ....

folks like Sam Bush (Bowling Green Native!) and Bela Fleck would often show up and play, and this was before Newgrass Revival... I saw them quite a few times for $5 covers. Incredible.

Slightly off-topic, but a fraternity flag football team I was on was named "Dare Meet". We purposely lost the first game and got our wish. In the school newspaper it stated that, "Jones Hall beat Dare Meet".

We got in trouble for that one.

We named our volley ball team "With Themselves" so that we could say our opponents were playing With Themselves.

The name of the Dr. who performed my son's hernia surgery at Children's Hospital in the early 80s was Dr. Wellington Hung. His friends called him Well of course. 2.gif True story.

Oh YEAH???????1.gif

My Mechanisms professor was named H.G Wells.

The one that escaped me is how one intramural team in college got away with their name year after year. They called themselves CSMF.

I always sort of liked:

Toad the Wet Sprocket

Tiny Desk Unit

Chocolate Watch Band

Camper Van Beethoven

Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band

Crispy Ambulance

"The Fugs" is a good one too. Apparently (IIRC) Norman Mailer used the word "fug" in his books in lieu of another, similar-sounding word, back in the days when censorship was still widespread.
