colterphoto1
There's a ton of Crown on ebay, just stay away from those used by bands, they're full of smoke, grime and beer! Telltale signs are grubby fingerprints around on/off switch, grime on front cover (you can see it on silver faces) and worn rack mount holes or bend rackmount tabs. A PS 400 or 600 or a DC150/300 (IIA type) would be great to power your LS for outdoor use. Michael

colterphoto1
I guess a 1200 would DO? How you gonna rig it now Jeff, did you get another amp from this bunch? I'll have my 1200 powering 2 LS bass bins per side (in stereo) and the DC300IIA powering 2 mid/hi bins per side (also in stereo) Have Rane stereo 3-way xover (so I can even do a mono SUB channel if I need it) and dual 31 band Ashley eq. Have 2 ea JBL and EV 18" bins here for really lo end. That should do the trick, eh? Michael

No, I did not get one of the amps. By the time I looked at the specs and saw less THD and IMD and a greater SNR, I thought "Well, okay." But the 300's were gone, so I'll stay happily put for now. I think you made a great deal. Post your reviews. By the way, did you never use your MT-1200 on the LS's or Cornwalls? If not, why? If you did, why don't you now? Just curious. ranjith
While on the topic of Crown amps, has anyone heard their XLS series? The XLS202 aren't too badly priced. Once summer rolls around I might save up for an entry level SS amp.

The 1200 is in my PA rack and I never really considered melding that gear with my home gear until recently (when the home gear started taking on tha appearance of PA, what with LS in the Hearth Room and Altec 511 horns!) My first move might be to use the DC300IIA for my main LR's out of my Yamaha receiver. That would free up some power supply on it to better serve the center and surrounds. Plus it'd give about another 6 db over the 100 watts or so that Yammie puts out. Add that to the 6 db I gained when moving up from CW's to LS's for HT mains and I'm like 12 db ahead of where I was only 6 months ago. woooohhooooo Michael

But you might be better served getting a bigger receiver for now. I wouldn't splurge on big iron (power amps), until you get some larger speakers, my friend! Duke Spinner
Duke,I am sorry I did not get your PM and by the time I got Meagain's the 3 were committed. I do have a 4th one that I planed to keep for my HT rear surrounds but I can use one of the 150's for that. If I do that then no 150's are left since one is spoken for. You will have to give until tomorrow to check it out because it hasn't been hooked up in several years and best I remember it was working fine..I just need to verify. Let me know for sure by posting here incase the PM doesn't work again. whassa story,RRRigma..........????
rigma
Duke, The last 300 checked out fine. It's yours, PM or email me your address and I will send you the UPS shipping charges. rigma
BS Button
Well "ol" BS Button made his way on into Rigma's fine estate today, picking up a couple of amps, one 300 for Colter and one 150 for mwwaa. Colter would've had a coronary at this place, he might have more stuff than you and Duke, well a close second anyway. I was met at the door by Rigma and his lovely wife only to be escorted by: let's see, one, two (with a Fisher integrated), three, yes!, three pairs of Klipsch before we made it upstairs to the loft/home theatre/listening room flanked by a gorgeous pair of Walnut K-Horns. Mac stuff, SET amps, tube pre-amps, processors, more processors, two more pairs of La Scala's, Dynaco ST-70, Dynaco MKIII's, Denon CDP, Sony 9000ES, another processor?, great looking turntable (which I am very unprepared to discuss) and finally a stack of Crown amps to die for. Not to mention, one of the most beautiful houses I have ever set foot in, ever. I'll just give his wife credit for that as Rigma is just a good old Mississippi boy. I almost forgot, Velodyne sub. Guess what? No Cornwalls! What a bummer: Rigma's wife really wants a nice pair if anyone's got 'em for sale. A real "die hard" Klipsch family. Of course, while I was there, we listened to a couple of tracks on a tube pre and his SET amps (looked like they had lightbulbs in those puppies). Good, very good, excellent, well the best. Hell, they sounded great...mono...I'm going to quit, before I get started again!!! Almost forgot the Teac Tri-path!
dwillie
Thanks again rigma,....... nice talking to you on the phone. You should have that check in your hands by now. I appreciate you working with me on the shipping thing. Oh boy,..... Whooooo----Hoooo! Can't wait to get those Crowns home and in my rack! If these are as nice as I believe they are, I'll be looking for a new home for my Micro-Tech 1200 and DC150A (Shameless, aren't I ?) Of course, all proceeds will go back into buying more Heritage gear. If anyone has "an ear to the ground" and hears of some Heresy's in need of some work, or Heresy's Industrial, please let me know. I wouldn't mind a fix-er-up pair. Adds a little fun to the mix. dwillie.
colterphoto1
Thanks for the pickup on that 300 Todd. Rigma, if you don't have your check already, it's on the way priority mail. Sent it out Wednesday. Glad you guys had a nice visit. Michael
BS Button
Dwillie, Yep, they're that nice. Looked at 'em with my own two eyes. Biggest transformers I've ever seen!!! Good thing it wasn't cold outside. BS

Jeff Matthews
Dwillie, don't just give that MT-1200 a new home, give it a new, loving home. Make Meagain a deal she can't refuse. She's right in your back yard, and she really has been curious about amps. Show her what the Crowns are made of.

I believe it's about a 45 minute trip. Meagin's ears may be used to K-Horns, but we could fire up the mega-watt Crown through the La Scala's and with a few nice choices of music....................................................Better yet, bring the K-Horns and we'll run all four!! dwillie.
