Sweet! I only see a pair of "back" speakers but don't see another

pair on the sides. Your screen makes KHorns look small and a La

Scala look a mini cube speaker! Some people must get the wrong

impression by looking at the pictures and must be really impressed when

they see the setup for real!

Man, It would be fun to have an injection molding machine to play with. Bob

Yes it would. Get him working on the right mix of goo to come up with; tiger stripe maple, zebra wood, rose wood, and good ol walnut look...then you would have something, everybody would be going with the deco look.

I can't wait to get my trio of Bob's tweets to install on my front three in the HT. Shipping info says Thursday. [:D] My only fear is that I will then want four more for my Heresy surrounds.

Bob, any package deal on 4 heresy networks and 4 tweeters [;)] ...heck I should just send you the 4 speakers and let them have a few days a spa-bob. I am sure they would come back refreshed and relaxed.

FWIW guys.......I got my tweets plus the components to do a mod to the crossovers and I hate to say this but.............

Bob is gonna go broke. [:(]

There is NO WAY in hell Bob can source the horn lens, the driver, make up the positive & negative leads complete with crimped-on spades, include a pair of jumpers to wire in another 2uF cap, and include two SS screws long enough to mount the new chokes and STILL make money. Hell - the time it takes to crimp & package alone has got to eat into the profit margin!

And since Bob includes positive & negative leads with crimped connectors with every tweeter, that's A LOT of crimping. I bet Bob's forearms look like Popeye's. [:)]

Got mine this morning. Shipping to Canada via USPS and Canada

Post took 10 days (not too bad). I paid the postman both

provincial and federal taxes calculated on the total value of the

tweeters and shipping, plus a C$5 handling fee. Total cost is

around C$230.

Very nicely packed! And the ready-to-install wiring was a nice

bonus too! There look very impressive and well-built.

Professional.

I removed the top plate of the KHorns to swap the tweeters, initially

because there's a piece of wood affixed to the underside of the top

table, just behind the tweeter, that would make it impossible to reach

the tweeter screws. There are only 6 wood screws to remove to

take off the top plate. I removed the first K77 and it stuck a

bit, so light tapping was needed to remove it. The removed screws

were too big for Bob's tweeter. Instead of making the holes

bigger on the tweeters, I found a box of #8 metal screws in my stuff

and the thread was different enough to grap well in the wood in spite

of the smaller diameter.

To my surprise, the top plate didn't clear the tweeter magnet. I

used a Dremel rotary tool and removed about 1/8" from the underside of

the top plate on a 1 square inch area to get it to fit.

I swaped one speaker, hooked up one channel of my CD player using a

Y-connector, and compared them by turning the balance control.

Surprisinly, the K77 was brighter and more details and the CT was

warmer. Initially I even wondered if it was working. I was

expecting the opposite effect. This difference might have been

caused by room acoustics or differences in upper mid-frequencies from

the mid-range driver, because after I swaped the second tweeter I again

compared them with the balance control and they still sounded a bit

different (but not as much).

Finally, I hooked up in stereo and listenned to a few tracks of Diana

Krall's "Girl in the other Room" and liked it a lot. My auditive

memory isn't fantastic, but it didn't seem to lose detail relative to

the K77 then. I can't say it's night-and-day difference with the

K77; updating caps in my old AA crossovers had more impact last

year. Still, so far so good. They do sound smooth.

More audition time is required for final judgement, but I'm already

pretty sure they will stay in.

Thanks Bob!

Peter,

If my currency exchange software is right, Canadian taxes raised the final cost of the tweeters plus shipping to $198 USD.

That's curious about the lack of clearance in your Khorns. I got mine in o.k. Don't think it would make any difference, but I took out the four screws holding the motorboard in the HF and slid (the motorboard with drivers attached) out the front.

Enjoy the sound!

Yeah, something like that. The tweeters were US$172 including shipping and we pay 15% tax on the total, plus C$5.

My real total cost was C$202.68 to PayPal for the US$172 (They do the

convesrsion and charge me in Canadian, rather than having my credit

card company do it), and C$34.26 to Canada Post (taxes and

handling). Total of C$236.94.

I was surprised about the clearance because nobody had reported that problem yet.

Peter,

I guess we will eventually get it pinned down as to what causes a clearance problem in a few instances. Essentially, if the new tweeter had a problem with the clearance, it seems a K-77M would also. The diameter of the magnet assembly of the new tweeter is 2.75 inches and the height of the K-77M magnet assembly is 2.62 inches. Half of that difference is 0.065 inch. That is the amount of additional height clearance the CT125 would need over what a K-77M needs.

I think everyone who has tried has satisfactorily gotten them installed so far. And with almost all, it has gone very easily according to reports.

Bob, if I had just bought the Khorns, I'll admit that I would have been

very weary to use the rotary tool on them. My wife said:

Are you sure you want to do that? [:)]

But now that I've had them for close to a year, swapped woofers on one,

opened-up a scratchy mid driver to clean it, etc, I felt at ease

thinking I was simply removing a bit of unwanted wood that nobody will

ever see. I figure that by posting my story, someone else will

have already read it when they realise they have the same problem, and

they will know it's easily addressed. It would have been a very

easy swap, given your generously provided leads, were it not for

that clearance problem. As it is, it only took me a couple of

hours by taking my time and comparing the sound along the way.

I am surprised you felt the new tweeters are more laid back when compared to the K-77's. I had gotten the impression that the new tweeters were more forward. Let us know your opinion after a few listening sessions.

I was surprised too.

I just finished listening for an hour or so. I remembered that

"Come away with me" by Norah Jones had lots of brushes on drums, but

hadn't listened to it for a long time. I was listening to the

brushes, thinking they sounded okay when BAM...

Cymbals. They simply stood out. I didn't recall ever

noticing them before and now they sounded sublime. I wish I had

tried that as my comparison test!

Is it psycho-acoustics? Maybe, but I doubt it. I put on that CD to hear brushes, not looking for amazing cymbals.
