Yes, fine with the type A.

I think the new tweeter will be even more of an improvement over the alnico tweeter than the ceramic. Most of the alnico don't even make it to the 17 khz that ceramics do.

Just ordered a pair of Bob's new tweeters along with some components to mod the crossover in my '72 vertical horn Cornwalls. Like many of you, my Corns sound wonderful up to that certain output level and then the harshness sets in. From the comments I've read and in speaking with Bob, I think this might be the answer to the harshness and lack of detail at higher volume levels.

FWIW, I asked Bob about the need to replace the tweeter in my center channel Heresy II and Bob mentioned to me that the K76 (and the HII) is a different animal since not only is the tweeter different, but so is the crossover and other drivers. I was concerned that after I R&R'd the tweeter in the Corns that I'd have timbre issues between them and my center channel HII. Bob's opinion was that I shouldn't notice too big an issue if any at all - besides, his new tweeter wasn't designed to replace the K76. So, that's one less speaker I need a new tweeter for.

Now I gotta save up my pennies for my 4 Heresy I surrounds. [:)]

BTW - I can't possibly express the appreciation I have for Bob and others here like ALK, DeanG, etc. for the level of help effort they provide. I hope I'm speaking for others when I say this. I mean, it's one thing to tinker around with stuff for yourself and it's another when you're passionate enough to help others with everything from answering (silly in my case) emails to developing completely new drivers and crossovers that all of us can use.

Thanks seems awfully inadequate, but that's all I have to offer.

Lot's of experience here with shipping to Canada via USPS. Two weeks.

Thanks guys. It's tough to wait while others are getting theirs!

Plus, two weeks from last Monday is the 13th. That's the day I

leave for my two-week helicopter survey of the Gulf of St.

Lawrence. I might have to wait until I get back to hear these

puppies!

Well, I just ordered a pair for my LaScala's, now I guess I should prepare to order some for my Heresy II's and 84 cornwalls? Do three pair still warrant a signature Bob? OOps, I guess If I would have done my homework I would know it doesn't apply to the HII's.

Peter,

What do you fly up there?

In the 80's, I spent much time in Lamas, Alouettes (a Lama with pants), the "little egg" Hughs 500C, ......and excuse me......Bell 214.

You guessed it...... Oil field exploration trash.[6]

Man, I really miss the sound of a bird firing up at my motel in the parking lot....the smell of Jet-A at 5:30am. Long-Lines and total lift with the big Bells. Auto-Rotate into a river bed by noon. What a rush! As a joke, we used to place "Pampers" on the seats for the new guys!

Sorry Bob. I got on a role..........

Regards,

Terry

Sounds like fun Terry. I can see (now) why anyone would think I

am a pilot. Actually, I am a reserach scientist in physical

oceanography. We usually use ship and ice breaker for field work,

but a while back I developed a niche using a helicopter to sample the

Gulf of St. Lawrence in winter. When we started the project, we'd

land on the ice to do stations. The pilot would keep the torque

on while I went to the tail to fetch a motorized ice drill, I'd drill a

hole to test the ice, and give a sign to the pilot if it was okay, and

he'd slack off the torque. We'd shut down, and sample the water

through a hole in the ice for about 30 minutes or so. Over the years,

we have setup a telescospic pole in the helicopter and a portable winch

powered by an 18V cordless drill, and we sample to 200m (650 ft?) while

in stationary flight. My avatar is actually a picture of me while

doing a oceanographic station with the door open in stationary

flight. It's a survey I've been doing for 11 years now. It

takes about 12 days and 40 flight-hours in a Coast Guard Bell-212

(Twin-Huey for some of you). A four-man team does the

survey: Me and a tech, one of four different pilots and an

aircraft tech. It's interesting because we've known eachother for

a long time, work as a tight group, have all our meals together,

etc. They help out doing science on the ice, and we help out

covering up the helicopter at the end of the day. That kind of

stuff. It's a different atmosphere than on ships, where the crew

and scientists don't end up being together all the time.

So I don't fly, but I also like the smell of Jet-B in the morning (I'm

told it gets a little cold for Jet-A if we can avoid it). On the

lower North shore of the St. Lawrence, where there are no roads, we are

sometimes kept awake late at night with the sound of snow-mobiles next

to the motel. We get our revenge starting-up the 212 in the

morning!

Edit: I had explained where my avatar came from in the old avatar thread here:

I have placed my order for 2-1/2 pair of these tweeters [<:o)]

Bob, thanks for posting the photographs of the injection molding machine with your molds in place.

That was very interesting to look at, and it does sound as if the guy you found to make the horns cared enough about what he was doing to do it right. I think my favorite part about this whole story is that the place that is molding the horns is primarily a manufacturer of duck calls [:D]

Wow, I'm in big trouble...2 Khorns, 1 La Scala and 4 Cornwalls to put new tweeters in.

Yeah, I'm beginning with 2 Khorns, but will likely want to upgrade the

surround La Scala as well down the road. My Heresy is a model II,

so only 4 tweeters for me.

Wow, 7! Is that for a 7.1 system? or 5.1 plus a stereo setup elsewhere in the house?

It is a 7.1 system. You can see it at http://www.prontoweb.com/klipsch_HT.htm and it is just awesome. I have quite a bit of work left to do, like tame some room resonance problems. But even now it sounds fantastic. I hate changing "things", but am glad I got the ALK crossovers for the Khonrs. Now I am wondering if the change to Bob's tweeters will be a noticeable change to the stock K77's.

So far the reviews are very impressive. Keep'em coming guys.
