BEC
BIG EDIT: If you read what I posted here earlier, forget it. I just called the guy at the molding shop and found out the mold is still in the machine. He will run a limited number of the clear (more properly called translucent) horns. I will not be selling them separately, but you can have the translucent instead of the black if you want. The translucent will not be avaliable for a few days and lets not get into swapping out horns that have already shipped. Bob Crites
TubeGuy
Bob, Sorry for getting this vein started. It was inevitable though and someone was bound to do it! In all seriousness, the clear horns are WAY COOL. P.S. And you're WAY COOL for obliging this insanity. A class act!!!
Bennyboy
Guys, When you have a material of 12 percent Glass you would not asked about different Colors ! Again , this is a high tech material and VERY difficult to mold . All different color options destroy the mechanical strengths of the material !!!! Because of the high percent Glass you need a strong molding machine . You will need a very high pressure to fill the product . Black because of the graphite will give you the best results......... Anyway , i could go on for hours.................... The man sure knows what he is doing ! The pictures of the mold tells me enough Bennyboy
Kriton
OK, just to get back on target - How much are the new Crites tweets, will they drop into the old rear mounted K-77's location without modification, and will they also work with existing crossovers? Lastly, what kind of rope caulk does Bob suggest we use on them? (Just kidding.) I think I know the asnwers, I just want to confirm! K Edit: Also, I think the question was asked, but how do these new tweets compare to the CW2 and H2 tweets of the later variety in extension and specs? BEC
New CT125 $150.00 per pair plus shipping. Use anywhere a K-77 is now used without changing anything else. Peanut Butter (creamy) Whole different animal than the K-76/K-79 just as those are very different from the K-77. Bob Crites
cjgeraci
This afternoon I beat the wife and toddler home and had a chance to really let my pair of the APT-200s rip with some of the harder stuff at pretty obnoxious volume levels. I am weaning myself off (a little) of the louder (and harder) stuff, but I wanted to see how (and if) the forward nature of the Eminence driver maintained itself at high volumes. After listening to some AC/DC, Ozzy, Metallica, and Zep at high volumes (CDP, Superloz mode in the Peach), I am pleased to report that the Eminence drivers, while forward, do not pin your ears back at higher volumes. I run all tubes on the upper end so I cannot vouch for solid state amps yet, but I love what I hear. Now - back to some Dire Straits at some more modest levels........ My point is that the driver in Bob's new CT-125 can more than hold its own (and even excel) when really pushed. Bob, congrats!! I think you will be bringing much joy to Heritage owners since your tweeter will suit all different types of music - and at all volumes - from conversational levels to really leaning on it. I'll be ordering a single CT-125 for my center Belle this weekend. Carl. P.S. I may still opt for a pair of Beymas in the rear since I'm converting my Altecs to three-ways (a little more laid back), but the fronts will be all Eminence. JoeRiff
I'm really pleased to read these reviews. Glad to see the tweeter does well with hard rock at high volume. Mine are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I can't wait to get them installed and see how they sound. I'm willing to bet they sound a helluva lot better than my current K-77's (blown by previous owner). Invidiosulus
I just finished installing the first one in my left heresy. I like what I hear. Going to go install the right side now. I'm running a solid state Yamaha receiver too and I think the sound is pleasent. Certainly sounds to me like there is more going on up top yet not harsh. Almost smoother even. cjgeraci
I have had two different models of K-77s in my Belles and have run them with various networks (first order up to ALKs). Even with some quality stuff in my chain (tubes, etc.), they always exhibited "grain" at higher volumes. Not any more, the Eminence are noticeably smoother at higher volumes (in addition to being more realistic, better range of frequencies, etc.). Carl. Deang
Carl -- I saw this: "This afternoon I beat the wife and toddler..." I thought you had finally gone off the the deep end. Who in their right mind would post that in the Updates and mods section of the forum -- I mean, that kind of thing belongs over in 2 channel. Heh, heh, heh.........at least I would be telling the truth when I said your quote was taken out of context........ You're right; that kind of comment should have been made over in 2-channel. [] Seriously though, its nice to have the house vacant once in a while so I can crank and really, really let things loose. I still turn up the volume when they are home (me downstairs and them upstairs away from the noise), but my four year old later tells me to turn it down - what is up with that? Carl.
