14. No table saw is available. Only a circular saw. Alex points out that the majority of pieces are the same height. Therefore a piece of plywood can be ripped with the circular saw if one can find a good guide. The solution is to use the factory-cut edge of another sheet of plywood. Once the sheet is ripped to the proper height, almost half the cuts have been made.

16. The smaller parts are difficult. The "prisms" are three inches tall. Hans makes them up out of four pieces of plywood. During assembly the pieces are held in position using brads placed on a piece of scrap wood.

17. The "ramps" are ripped in a similar fashion so that they are three inches wide. Then the ramps and prisms are positioned on the back of the front board. The first section of the expansion is being formed!

18. While the glue is drying, the explorers come upon the Cave of Winds where papers fly in a whirlwind. Professor Lidenbrock believes Arne Saknussemm must have left his technical papers here before the winds started. The explorers can catch only a few of the papers in their hands.

25. Before starting work, Alex manages to assemble another document. This one is a report by an Englishman on, among other things, Klipsch horn speakers.

It says here, "Before we acquired a Klipsch speaker, we were told by various audio experts that we would be disappointed in its performance, because of the breakup of the high and low frequencies between the tweeter above and the woofer below. However, each expert who expressed this opinion admitted that he had neither seen nor heard this type of speaker."

The Englishman did not find a problem.

"How does this work," Alex asks. "Experts who have not heard it state it sounds bad. Oh. This must be the ultimate subjective evaluation. Absolutely no data at all!"

26. The explorers turn to cutting pieces of plywood. The cuts are made using a circular saw and a cutting guide. This saw has a graduated, cast aluminum, protractor for cuts on an angle. With care, very accurate cuts can be made.
