colterphoto1 Posted December 5, 2006 Share Posted December 5, 2006 Yeah, I'm here. Listened to Dtel's AWESOME All Forte/FII system last night- great balance in that timbre-matched setup. He has the FII's on the wings about 20' apart up on 3' shelves in the corners. The CWIII's are just outside the 60" Toshiba RPV. We did try pushing the CW's back to the back wall for more bass, tweaked the angle Woodog style, and switched the mains to LARGE so we could listen to the CWIII's with NO SUB for music. Dtel allowed me the privledge of listening to a CD I'd burned of motown and pop tunes. Everything sounded great. Some brief DVD concert listening showed his homemade sub to be very effective and more than enough to keep up with the Fortes. Then Johnny told some tales of staying behind during the hurricane, he runs some of the water utilites here in Picayune and his tales of the early days after the devestation were hair-raising. This was a very dangerous place to live, with national guard trying to maintain control as the local forces didn't have access to enough fuel to patrol. Today we're out to NO for sightseeing. It got below freezing here last night, still a bit chilly today, but nice and sunny. There is an art museum, D-day museum, and another with lots of photography that we may try to take in, as well as the seafood joints, Quarter, more devestation, etc. Dtel's wife just headed out to pick up her wedding dress, so we'll be out the rest of the day. Nothing like 2" of slab foam, then double wrapped bubble pack (which 6 year old Buddy had a heyday with). Should we be cautious by hooking up to el cheapo speakers first or just let er wail with the CWIII's? I did take the liberty of comparing yours and Dtels zip code through my UPS account. We need your paypal account to take care of shipping please. Saw more devastation today at Dtel's Mother's home in St. Bernard, then on the the lower 9th ward, where homes were entirely swept away by the flood waters coming through the breach in the levee and the 140 mile and hour winds. All the appliances have been removed from the home so the hazardous materials can be properly salvaged prior to demolition. But there are thousands and thousands of homes to be torn down. They have shifted on their foundations, there is nasty mold everywhere. I stepped in some greasy black 'soil' today that wasn't your standard variety mud at all. An oil refiniery tank ruptured near there so the water was super contaminated. The only thing people could salvage from homes was like glassware that did not soak up the oily, nasty, diseased water. Nothing else could be safely removed. There are still large areas of those parishes (counties) with essentially no city services, therefore they are dark at night. Very scary and somewhat depressing. Where there are going to pile up all the debris from the homes to be demolished is unknown. There are no places to put the FEMA trailers. many of the homes destroyed are modest, maybe 1200-1500 ft2, with hardly any yard or driveway- where on earth are they to put one of those massive manufactured homes stored in Hope?? Government ineptitude at it's finest. We ate in the Quarter tonight and had the beignet and cafe au lait on the way home. Just going through Dtel's entire collection of concert DVD's tonight. Probably doing Dday museum, then going to the aquarium in the afternoon to check out the IMAX film called Hurricane on the Bayou. Dtel has never seen an Imax film and I think they want to horrify me just a wee bit more. [:|] my cell is317. 946-2044 We're looking to hit the Art Museum or Ogden Museum on Friday. Ogden is a 2700 piece personal collection featuring some old photos from the 30's to 50's. Friday night or Sat night we're going to hang around the Quarter some more. They're threatening to go out partying after the wedding and just leave me there- no no, to take me to the airport because I take off Sunday morning at 7 am. Have to show up at 5. And YES I'm being good- except for all the sweets last night. [A] You might have noticed that I haven't been posting at 2 or 4 am. I think it helps me to be in a house full of people, it's just really comfortable here staying in Dtel's barn. Plus with all the goings on (DVD's, history lessons, camera tutorials, helping the girls with hairstyle selection) I didn't get to bed until after 1. But you won't be in a party mood when you exit the place. It always disorients me a bit to walk out of that place heavy of heart into the joie de vivre, devil-may-care atmosphere of the Big Easy. There was a recent Murder there too, in the apartment above, so it will make it even more famous. Pat O'Brien's, other drinking spots I am sure crazy especially at night.. Hurricanes (drinks will kill you.. well after 3,4,5,6, hahahahaha) The Three sisters was a fav buffet place for me to eat, [] I am sure the casino is up and running fun to watch others and play some as well. I have one odd casino story... I turned 200 I started with, into 2,300 and QUIT like a good boy!! This never happened to me before on my last hand... And this is a true story... I had a 200 bet.. so if I win I keep that and get another 200 for 400 dollars right?? My other half was so nervous standing behind me (I usually stick to the 5 dollar tables bet 5- 20 dollars max.. Per hand.. Last bet for me is always like 50-100 dollars if my night is good.. just in case I land it.. it is a good pay out.. LOL.) Hey, so I don't bet BIG BUCKS>> LOL I told the dealer, "This is my last bet.. She smiled." I had won 2000 dollars so I took 10% of that, so 200, to bet one last hand.. I had a 19, and she had a 19, for some crazy reason she paid me for my cards.. should of been a push you know?? I gave her a 100 tip!! She smiled, and she said enjoy NAWLINS.... I left, knowing something was up, but I was out of there... We laughed and knew we were blessed.. SO rather than lose 200... I got 400 gave her a 100 tip for a gain of 300.. (Well technically 200 of my money, and 100 of the houses money too..) Anyways... A good deal.. Let us know what you think.. Tell all I said hello.. All lights work, no scratch in the controls. I sent some extra 3 amp fuses for it just in case. Those little filaments don't take shipping well sometimes. You replace them in the back of the unit instead of opening it up as it is with your 730. Just give it the standard vintage H/K operating proceedure (power on, then power to speakers, power off speakers, power off receiver) and all should be fine. I've never ran it higher than eleven, eleven thirty on the volume pot so keep your ears open for distortion if it's turned up further than that. Let's consider the shipping cost a reaffirmation of vows gift.... As a matter of fact, let's consider the receiver itself a reaffirmation of vows gift.... I've had it in the back of my mind that's what I was going to do all along. Have a good time with the Dtels and remember it's nose to the grindstone starting the 12th. meagain Posted December 6, 2006 Share Posted December 6, 2006 There's a neat little inexpensive restaurant on a corner towards the North of the Quarter called The Plantation Restaurant. Best NO style BBQ shrimp I've ever had. Crusty bread for dipping. I go there every time I'm there. There's a cute little headshop off Bourbon also that's fun to visit. I hope the economy jumped back & fast enough to keep these little restaurants/businesses running cuz they are what it's all about. Not Cafe duMonde, etc. Nothing like being able to walk around outside with a drink in your hand in front of cops. My first NO experience was seeing a guy pee on a building, a hippie type with dreads down to his knees with a 3' long beard, and an older wealthy dressed to the 9's couple...... all in one view. Gotta love it. Only don't care for the bands along the strip. Kinda touristy oriented. The best band we saw was off the hook. A Fishbone/Zydeco combo of music - beyond frenetic with all these fast weird time-signatures combined with acid zydeco. I'll never forget them.
