Moderators dtel's wife Posted May 21, 2007 Moderators Share Posted May 21, 2007 I really miss the old drive in theaters. It's a shame our children will never know what drive in theaters were like....well on second thought... Seriously, I think we might try to do a home drive in theater. Looks like it would be really cool.
Coytee
I suppose some Bose 901's would have an inherent disadvantage when used in this format?

Aaaaaah yes.... A backyard drive-in would be fun, but it would never work for me. Bug bites aside...... unless I lived waaaaaaay out in the country, my neighbors would never tolerate me because I could never settle for "drive-in" sound. For me..... full range ref-level sound is now a very big part of the movie experience, and I could never accomplish outdoors what I can indoors without being run out of the neighborhood......LOL I have plenty of fond memories from my Drive-In youth experiences, but then again .... sound quality meant nothing in those days. Back then, the backseat was all that mattered!! Back then, the small metal toaster hanging in the window was just fine. Heh.... those days are long since gone[]
BackyardTheater
Hello fellowKlipsch fans! I ran a pair of cornerhorns indoors for about 10 years. Hands downthe best speakers Ive ever owned, although I never really had a proper room(short walls past the corners) for them. Got married, started raising kids, stoppedlistening as critically as I used to, and sold them. Got into home theater eventually and ended upoutside. I run the site mentionedabove. Id still like to try a pair ofLaScallas or Hersheys out there but havent. Sorry if I butchered the names, but Im going from memory. I also runa Klipsch system on our family PC. Outdoors, Imcurrently running Mirage 1090is and center, a JBL 12 sub, some generic rearoutdoor speakers, and a pair of ButtKickers mounted under my deck. So yes, we have some good laughs too. Especially when a new visitor is startled bythe shakers the first time and lets out a scream. I justwanted to stop by and introduce myself. I treated my K-Horns (thats what we used to call them, anyway) like children, when I was single. Always conditioningthe wood and giving them good clean power from a David Haffler power and pre-ampsI built from kits. The guy who bought myspeakers got a great deal and I OFTEN wish I had them back. If any ofyou are running Klipsch speakers outdoors, Id love to know what works best foryou. Randy
Groomlakearea51
LaScala's!![H] [<)] Reason: I can "tote" them around without too much of back breaking, and they "do the deed". Old "LS-BR's" (LaScala - Birch/ Raw) - and can be legally scratched on ocassion... a requirement for any outdoor party use). Need to stick wheels on the bottoms!!! How bout just about anything from the pro-cinema lineup? Seven MCM stacks on wheels will sound pretty good outside []

Randy Randy, First Welcome! Second, please do not take offence to my post. After looking at the systems folks posted I could not help notice that most all but left the audio part of the system out. At our last "movie night" we had about 35 folks. I use all pro gear on that night. the front was 12' 2 way KI-272 R&L center was KSM-2 15" 2 way. Surrounds were KP-250's which is a 12" 3 way. The sub needed help, It is a prototype LF horn. Not a sub, but it did ok. In the past we have used La Scalas and the THX ultra 2 sub system. We had live music played before the movie. The next one is the one I plan to post on your site. We plan to set up a full cinema system. We plan to invite all 750 homeowners in my sub-division. I am waiting on a screen from Malco theaters. (32' *18') I am thinking it will happen sometime in Aug. Close to my Bday.(21st) You should give me a call at work some time to chat. Maybe I can help you find the system you need. If you want to come see us in Indy, we are having an "open house" on June 22 - 23rd. No charge. Just let us know your coming so we can set a plate at dinner for you. Thanks again for joining and I hope you come around a lot. I know I will be visiting your site much more from now on. Peace Trey
M.A.N.D.I.
I use Heresys outdoors on a covered 15 by 24 foot patio. I purchased the widest curtain blackout material I could get reinforced the corners with denom so I could put grommets hang it on chains and pull it tight with ziplocks to keep it from blowing in the breeze. It works great and is ran from the inside so what ever is playing inside can also be played outside at the same time. In NW Arkansas we are fortunate to still have a drive-in. $10 bucks a carload with a double feature. They used to only run old movies and never new releases but last year they did a pretty good job showing new releases. They are showing Pirates and Wild Hogs this weekend so load up the pickup, pop some corn and fill the cooler. And if you live in the area enter from the north on 112 to beat the line off 540. The only bad experience we have had is once we parked next to a deisel subburban that decided to start up so they could run their AC. Everyone asked him to shut it down but he wouldn't
Surround me with sound
I live in southern Idaho and we still have two drive in's in our town. If you have a good care stereo, the movie sounds great. You tune to the FM frequency stated at the drive in. The only draw back is it is not in 7 channel surround.

I thought the title was funny, being a Klipsch fan myself. Someone mentioned the pro-line. Yeah, I know about all that, but I gotta be real too. And sleeping in the garage with my speakers doesn't appeal to me... I would be remiss if I didn't "mention" licensing on your 750 person showing. Just don't want to see anyone get into legal trouble. Once you reach beyond family and friends (acquaintances) or charge admission, you're into a licensing area. Your mileage may vary... swank.com or my site for info. Nuff said. Thanks for the invitation! I'm going to consider that. I'm about 5 hours from you, drive-time and have a user in Indy I'd like to meet. He's featured in one of the TV clips on my site. You two should get together too. He runs five Crown amps in his backyard theater rack! (And JBL EON's, sorry.) He goes by Danoplex II in our forums. Great guy! Big audio. Yes, many of our users go pretty light on audio. Some are just getting started, many are limited by close neighbors. Many are just primarily interested in big video but will eventually upgrade their audio. But me and a few others dig the audio side of things. That's where I got started and it would be hard to go backwards! I'd LOVE to have a killer Klipsch system out there. After running K-horns indoors for a lot of years, I can only imagine how it could sound. ps: I had you guys based in Arkansas for some reason? Is my brain going? Are you based in Indy? Thanks for the note. By all means, jump on our site and tell everyone what you're up to. Post some pics and we'll get you featured. An aside, I can remember the first time I saw a Klipsch product in a big box store, it was kind of... depressing... I remember when you only had about 4-5 speaker designs to choose from and seeing the leap to mainstreet was a little strange for me. Did others here experience that? But congrats on the growth! I've been out of touch for a while but it looks like things are going very well on the business side for Klipsch. Regards, Randy
