God, I think I am in love.

Yeah, makes you just want to give her a hug...

On the other hand, if she had actually answered the question directly she would have clearly offended the teachers and education establishment quite severely. Maybe she's smarter than we think she is... she must know that a Miss Teen USA probably appears and speaks at a lot of schools throughout her reign. No need to screw that pooch just to appear intelligent and informed.

On a deserted island there were three women, a blond a brunette and a redhead. They needed to get back to the mainland and the only way was by swimming. The redhead goes first. She makes it a quarter of the way then drowns. The brunnette goes second. She makes it one third of the way then drowns. The blonde comes last. She makes it one half of the way, gets tired and then turns back.

I wonder if Miss Teen S. Carolina ever made fun of the "nerdy" smart girls in her high school. Could this be karmic retribution? Or, does it just reinforce the stereotype?

Hard to believe this song is over twenty years old. [:|]

Still, we better tread lightly around the blonde stereotype stuff since our favorite mod is an intelligent and beautiful blonde.

In a report this morning, she reveals (written before the pagent) that she

entered the pagent to improve her communication skills. She's a nice girl.

When asked what she would do now, she said she wants to eat a hamburgers.

She has forbid herself burgers, fries, and hotdogs for the last three years to keep slim.

She's just a teenager.......give her a break!!!!!....................She could come here though......oooooh, ouch, huh.....indeed..

Huh? I just thought it was kinda funny and a bit sad. I don't think anyone is directing any hate her way. She's even an honors student. But you gotta admit, the clip was kinda painful to watch and her answer made no sense at all - unless you agree and "personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, believe that our, education like such as, uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us."

Gotta disagree with you OB, I think that we can expect more out of teenagers than that gibberish - even under pressure. I've been asked a few times to judge the local high school forensics meets. Watch some of these kids debate sometime and I think that you'll come away quite impressed with a teenager's ability to articulate complex analytical thought.

Anyway, no big deal.

........................Miss Teen USA!!!!!!...... indeed......eh... [;)]

sounds like it was made by a different person

COLUMBIA, S.C. - This time, the question was a little easier for Miss Teen South Carolina. After being stumped by a Miss Teen USA pageant
question on live television Friday night, Lauren Caitlin Upton's
confused, mangled response has been drawing a lot of attention.

The 18-year-old got a chance to redeem herself Tuesday on NBC's
"Today" show when she was again asked why one-fifth of Americans can't
locate the U.S. on a map.

"I would love to re-answer that question," Upton said. "Well
personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States
is on our map. I don't know anyone else who doesn't. And if the
statistics are correct, I believe there should be more emphasis on
geography."

That was much better than her previous response, which included "U.S. Americans" and mentions of South Africa and "the Iraq."

A YouTube video of Upton has drawn a couple million hits and thousands of comments, many of them with harsh remarks for the Lexington High School graduate who plans to attend Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

Upton was taking her flubbed answer and the attention in stride.

"Everything did come at me at once. I was overwhelmed and I made a
mistake. Everybody makes a mistake. I'm human," she said Tuesday. "I
seriously think I only heard about one or two words of the actual
question."

Upton's former principal Creig Tyler remembered her as a well-rounded student.

"She took college-prep and honors courses and performed well," Tyler told The (Columbia) State newspaper.

Miss Teen Colorado Hilary Carol Cruz won the crown. Upton was third runner-up.
