  5. i wrote a big write up although seemed too diverse last night in this thread and deleted it respecting the conservative nature this thread and forum tends to direct. Boxx is spot on with trends and at&t. my ex with her cpa and mda is in the office of the president at at&t and knowing the strenth of the workplace with them and following their capital for 10 years now there is a lot of substance to put your money behind with them Another is Comcast i will ad. watching very closely you will see them gain very adversely. I have to include trends i notice with tech gadgets will pull them down in the future although in the next 3 years its a buy situation just be ready to sell or trade patiently at about 2 and a half years from now and you will do very well Trends following price waterhouse cooper are also to spike although i am not at liberty to suggest taking the chance quite yet. time and understanding could do you very well studying certain areas you can at least understand the least bit will gain knowledge for those with the patience to do so. best of luck to all

  8. In another thread started by Sargent about 3% interest, the topic began to sway to politics and small business. I thought it would be polite to start a new thread concerning this topic. As you all know, data is extremely important to government. This is how they keep metrics. The trouble is that small businesses don't usually have the means to hire professionals or employees to handle this. Although it may be easy for a single clerk to handle the paperwork, that is an overhead that cannot be spread over a large revenue base. That employee may well be half the cost of the entire business. The bigger your business, the easier it is to absorb the cost and the smaller the percentage of overhead it creates. This is why small businesses are at a huge disadvantage. Another example of how government interferes with small business is competing with them. In my case, it was the state government who snatched a customer. Rather than working with me, they decided to take the customer for themselves. It was a development authority, which was state and county funded. My business was in the same industrial park. I had a union workforce. I had newer facilities, and better trained workers. In spite of all that, they undercut me, and caused the permanent layoff of 10 people. Another example of government interference that was devastating to me was in an immanent domain for a state corridor, which is partially federally funded. I was working with the state to relocate my customers, and was having no issues at all working within their imposed time limit. I had a total of 150,000 sq ft operating about 1 million pounds a day by truckload and LTL's. Teamster union employees. My kids were young and I wanted to take them to Disney World. Before I left, I gave the state guy my cell so he could reach me, and asked if it was OK for me to leave. He was from Florida, and he told me it was no problem and to enjoy the time with the family. "Disney is great!", he said. I called the office from the Disney hotel and was told that he had called EVERY customer I had and gave them 60 days to get out. Needless to say, that ruined my vacation. It also lost half my customers. Once you put a scare into a manufacturer, they get very punchy. I sued the state and they settled. This is an example of what happens to some people when they get power. Many government employees are afflicted with this, and it is always the businesses who suffer. How about this one. In most states, most roofs installed on commercial and industrial buildings is galvanized steel. In this state it is by far the most common. Here's the rub. It is illegal to have a galvanized roof, but not illegal to sell it or install it. Here's why. because we have acid rain, the zinc is washed from the metal every time it rains. The allowed amount of zinc released into the waterways is tiny. In fact, it is a small fraction of the amount allowed in your tap water. Why, then is the sale of galvanized metal roofing legal? If you have ever filed, paid for and maintained a stormwater permit, including semi annual grabs from every outlet and then paid analysis, you will know what overhead really means. It's frickin ridiculous. Two summers ago, I was fined over $5,000 because I was late with a grab. It was the responsibility of the manufacturer tenant to make this grab, and they dropped the ball. The thing about it is this. Every damn grab yields about the same results. They just reached into my pocket and stole five grand. I have many many more examples I will share, but I hope people will become involved in this thread, so I will stop here.

  9. Thanks for posting this one. I'm looking for new ideas on what to do with my Jubilee's... Hi Box!!! That is a TSCM!! I own 7 of them... In this shot Kevin had them under an overhang behind his house, out by his pool. He moved them to his shop and replaced them with KP 301s because the Mud Dobbers kept building nests in them. Rog

  17. This is a classic: I was 19 and just out of high school. Got a summer job working at a steel tank head fab shop. We made tank heads of all sizes. Some went together like a puzzle and would be 50 feet across. One day another fella and I were told to get the 25K lb rough terrain forklift (big tires taller than a man) and go unload a gondola type railroad car loaded with steel plate at the dock. As I recall it was about 200,000 lbs of steel total weight with car and everything. The railroad car though was not all the way up to the dock. We tried but could not get the job done without moving the car. That little problem was about to get much bigger LOL. My partner directed me to get in the condola car and manually release the brakes while he pushed the car with the big forklift we had. Seemed reasonable to me, so I climbed in the gondola with the plate steel, unlocked the brake and started to release it. My forklift operator started pushing the car. All went well at first and he got the car in the correct position on the dock. BUT very slowly the car started pushing back on the forklift! I heard the big tires on the forklift start spinning and the railroad car was still moving. I started frantically turning the brake wheel as fast as I could only to realize I was going the wrong way and I could see the chain getting more slack in it. Now the loaded car were really moving. The steel was falling back down in the condola from where we had previously attempted to get it out. I was jumping around in the car to keep from getting pinched. Faster and faster the runaway car was gaining speed. I considered jumping off but it was just too high. After what seemed like an eternity I finally hit a derail about 1 mile down grade from that dock. The car cut through about a doz cross ties doing all kinds of damage to the track. All the while I'm holding on for dear life! Right side wheels were against the left side rail. Front trucks were crossed. Scared the you know what out my green butt. I was OK though. In the following days Norfolk Southern dispatched two heavy cranes ($1500 each my boss said) to get the car back on the track. A track crew came and made the necessary repairs. NS also lauched a full investigation interviewing both of us about the incident. The other fella got a weeks suspension without pay. (he was the senior employee of us two). I was told to never release the manual brake on a RR car again. From that day on I was know as "The Box Car Cowboy" to all my coworkers LOL.

  24. using firefox on my xp HP system as i type, works perfectly fine for me. might have been the version you used that had "issues" with your computer. try an older version, not the current ones, as with anything newer programs are usually intended for w7 or w8.

  25. the ending support for xp is simply the updates you get from microsoft. the computer & o/s will still work fine. if you have a security concern just upgrade your old IE browser to mozilla firefox, it doesnt have any of the security concerns that IE8 can have. the xp computer will continue to work just fine & if you have a good anti virus software &/or firewall there isnt much of a concern at all. especiallly if you just do casual browing online or forum use etc. if you do banking or other secure type things then yes you may want to upgrade/convert to w7 or w8. chheck ebay or CL, there are tons of used desktop & laptops with w7 or w8 already installed for very good prices. i was using a w98 computer online just fine untill a couple years ago & the "support" for that ended back in early 2000's. not to mention, how often did people reallly use the windows update feature anyways, i went for a couple years without even bothering to check for updates... everything functioned fine. go get the updates a couple days before 4/8 & you should be fine for many years of basic internet useage & until the computer dies for other basic stuff like WORD & OFFFICE APPS.

  35. News just in: After I test all three, all three will be for sale. This news comes from me showing the wife the back of the units, she saw the switch, what's that for ? (Bridged/Stereo), well dear if you have two amps you can double the power, so how much power she ask, well dear almost 500watts at 4 ohms, but mark she say's, you already have the cops here with your 70watts!......she is of course right, im wanting, but NOT thinking, so sell them all I will just as soon as I check them out. you guys will be the first to know, but let me make sure everything works on all of them before you guys start crawling all over this, don't want to sell a nonfunctioning amp(s). OK? just relax and give me tonight and morning to run them.........

  43. I can with my 225 grado cans. I will figure out what cd/s i have on an amp(its been a while and kind of irritating although interesting, to hear ambient sounds)and report back. I love my sound room im listening in to be completely silent minus what i fill it with. Interesting you hear this even on/with bluetooth and iphone...mp3? Im strictly cds. My 15year old and my ex wife taught me all i know about iphone music ands not much lol. I always lose quality when they give me burnt/ripped cd's. Yet some are actually better than others, burnt/ripped of course interesting you pull in sounds from greenland on them ham radios

I am no doubt lol I have owned some very nice tube equipment as well as very high priced speakers and some remain in my collection but i only use the stuff i get really cheap in price then upgrade to even out the economical part of this hobby. I absolutely cannot get enough of tube amplification. i cant sleep unless tubes are a button press away. spoiled is a better description. I also like collecting tubes and breaking them in. I know your the kinda guy that runs them angels on them splits nonstop. its a true addiction
