  1. Well your doing much better than me, I only treat them when a mound pops up. I think ours are on steroids they don't die they just get a little buzz from the poison and move on so I am lucky to just keep them away from the house and garden.

  2. Good evening once again folks.... Joe, I am glad you settled on a DAC that you are happy with :0) Ok, I have opened up my box of acoustic panels.... Have them setup temporarily, and the room is VERY much improved!! The KHorns are seemingly warmer and the bass is better dirtibuted around the room which was my hope (0: Here are some photos during the arrival into Music Hall and the un-wrapping....., here the way they were packed, unpacked a couple of the 3x2' and the 2x2' for starters.. here are the bags filled with the mounting hardware...., Meanwhile, I am enjoying a Copland recording from Naxos in beautiful 24/96 BluRay Audio ;0) Tomorrow, the Electro Harmonix KT88's Platinum EH series arrive and will be installed for tomorrow night's session over in RTM... Off to bed soon, wishing you all a good night ..............Gary........ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

  3. Ants worst natural enemy is the termite. So if you have plenty of ants, you probably don't have termites.

  4. Evening Gang Taking a break from wearing a headlight and tracking down Ant trails, had them in check for almost 6Mo, the dam lil critters are coming in from the neighbors on both sides of me. Amazon has some great bait food for these Ants, between the bait and a little spray i should be able to hold-em at the fence line. Cold coffee/Duggans is tasting pretty good.

One of the highlights was a 2 mile hike in the mountains with Better Half and Baxter. Good to be back .... there are so many 'likes' that I'll never catch up and will just take it from this point forward. Happy Friday everyone. Have a great day and cheers to all. Chuck

  10. That's some good looking panels, glad they are helping, I think the room is the most under corrected and most intimidating part of this hobby, most people never do it, I haven't.

  13. Yea I got a stupid good deal on an upgraded Havana over on head-fi, I just got plain lucky and happened to check the source for sale adds right after the seller posted it, he replaced the output caps, a few resistors, put in the WE396a tube and included the R Core transformer if I ever wanted to have it replaced I had got all caught up in getting better resolution files and abilities to play same at the highest rez. What a huge mistake for me I found the sound so flat I could barely listen. I was super depressed and started looking at selling everything, I sold the supposed better dac and next day Havana comes up, and then a bifrost uber I was able to get both for what I sold the Metrum Now I like Bifrost it is AWESOME especially at under 300, but I flat out LOVE Havana at any price under 1000 Had some serious sellers remorse after selling my first Havana, I wont have that again...............they can keep 24 / 192, I will take musical and involving

  18. Good morning all. Two cups this morning. Heard the '08 suv w/86k miles probably needs a new engine yesterday to the tune of $11k... Going to be trolling for second opinions, but all maintainence has been done at the dealer, religious synthetic oil changes and now a peculiar noise and it's dead?! Sigh, we have our health. It could be so much worse but I'm still having two cups today! :-) Cheers!

  19. Good TGIF morning to you all......... Thanks for the comments on the panels guys.. I can't tell you what a difference the listening tests proved out to be. I recorded three tracks using my pro setup. The mic was set right at where my head/ears normally are positioned.. I grabbed two tracks from the Boston Acoustic's 'bass' demo CD and from my old car audio competition days, a track from the IASCA test recording and was sure to include the announcers introduction to the 'sound pressure level' test.. I see room for an additional 3 panels to complete the look and performance of the listening space ... The fun all begins shortly after 8pm. eastern (RTM).. Mark, great on the ants.......we only get them in a small dose here in the spring, then they are pretty much gone... Ok, enjoy the day............more this evening... ..............Gary

  22. Gents, it's not that hard to find but here's the summary: 10 points: the user's subsequent posts are put in a moderation queue to be approved/denied by moderators for the next 10 days. 15 points: the user cannot post at all for the next 10 days. 20 points: the user is suspended for 10 days. 30 points: the user is suspended permanently (banned). All moderators can award them. Take one as a shot across the bow to get your attention. For me, next step is ten, so you should consider it seriously. After that, all bets are off. We've been around a long time and our first loyalty is to you, our very real friends. But we take protection of this Forum dead seriously and will risk collateral damage to protect this place. You have no idea what we get in PMs and such from those who cross the line. It is NOT pleasant and we often wonder why we do it. But when we see members F2F at Hope and wherever and hug, we remember why. When we share life, and death, and everything in between, we keep at it. We are not only always right, we always wonder if there wasn't something we might have done to save a situation. I am now on final run towards 20k posts. A couple of other Mods are there and others have many thousands. We talk. We agonize. No decision goes unanalyzed. Think what you will, but we love this place and all of you. Dave

  23. Not that it affects me but I don't like how we are getting away from dating. Used to you could take out a different girl every weekend night. It was intimate in that you were alone, could pay attention to each other, there weren't distractions, a boy could make a girl feel special, etc. Nowadays, people apparently mostly text, and single people might be juggling several conversations at the same time. Mild dating has been replaced by texting, that's like the courting process. It's incredibly lame. When my boy gets old enough to date I'm going to tell him to be an old fashioned goober and actually ask a girl out to a nice dinner.

  24. hey--now you're bashing my freeways....i've been in gridlock on the 405 at midnight. (Unless you're talking about LA as in Louisiana).

  25. i was at the first night shuttle landing...looked like a plane landing. For about a dozen years, i lived close to the Lockheed Plant in the California desert. Got to watch the SR-71 quite a bit. That was a plane that always made me stop and look at it.

  26. I read that, they said it went from 50 lanes to 20 and it caused a 75 mile backup, sounds like LA.

  27. On the car theme. Did you know there are 50 lane roads in China? Imagine the traffic jams there.

  30. There are a lot of auto manufactures that say 1qt every 1000 miles is with-in "normal oil consumption"..Toyota says 1qt every 600 is normal.....can you say Bull Shitt.... It's a big problem in the industry..... Honda is going through a lot of shitt with there VCM V-6 engines...a lot of issues with those engines..... also some issues with some of the 4 cylinder's..... Do a google on Honda oil consumption......it's horrible..... Every week I get customers in the shop with a 3 year old Honda that has a VCM engine in it and there's no oil on the dip stick. I advise them they have to check there oil or they end up blowing the engine... It's just bad.... MKP :-)

  31. Sorry - I realize I left that off - it's an import - Volvo XC90. We have a great relationship with our mechanic. He has done minor maint on it, he looked at it and recommended we take it to the dealer bc it's in deep and he felt if he could even get to it, it would likely be expensive and he wasn't confident he could do it as efficiently as they could. I've had my truck for 16 years ('00 Silverado) and he's kept it running like a top. Things happen I guess, but I was kind of waiting for the camera crew to come out when he dropped the $11k pricetag. I know imports are more, but seriously? We did get it used off CL for 22k four years ago, but they had maint records from the dealer. Our mechanic looked when we bought it, said it looked great, felt pretty good about it and then out of nowhere... They have better reputations than that. More to come I suppose. We won't have them do anything without a detailed list of the problem and take it to our guy first. etc.

  32. This ^^^^^^ Problem is the people who cause the most trouble NEVER meet at any of the pilgrimages. It would be fun if we all had to get together once a year and talk about what has been said in person, problem is most who just want to cause trouble never bother, they are only "bad @ss" behind there keyboard, sissies.

  35. I mix sugar water with boric acid (sold as different brands of "roach powder") and soak it up into cotton balls. The ants swarm over it and take it home to feed the family. muhwah ha ha Keep it away from pets though. I hear you can use it for bait for termites as well. I'm thinking you could set some bait traps with wood soaked with boric acid. So are you trying the cold brew heated up, Mark? Or are you actually drinking it cold? Naw, cold is good w/Duggans, hell anything is good w/Duggans, well what the hell< Duggans is great on the Rocks.

  37. Yeah, higher resolution doesn't mean better recording for sure! It is hit or miss as it seems they will release ANY quality of recording in high resolution. That latest Linda Ronstadt compilation was disgusting low quality but, hey, you could get it in high resolution. If I were you I'd go ahead and convert those 24/192 resolution files down to 24/96 so you can play them on the Havana. I use dBpoweramp which is really fast. You might like those better on the Havana... of course you have to get them to a resolution that it will play. That Havana is a really fun DAC!

  38. Morning all.....and a good Friday to ya... 1st cup almost done....will take 2nd cup to go.... Not to much of a ant problem around our home... got a few colonies here and there in the yard. Mostly black and red ants. We live in a wooded area so we do have to watch out for carpenter ants. Here in Md we don't have a problem with fire ants....I know some of you guys in the south and out west get those damn things. I remember when I was in El Paso, those damn fire ants were everywhere. Enough about the ants.... gotta roll out....meeting a guy at the shop for alittle cash job....that's my dinner money for me and the wife tonight.. Wishing all a great day.. MKP :-)
