  7. I've always had the opinion that bigger is better. Think of a car engine. A large (strong) car engine will get your car up to speed easier than a small weak engine. Would you prefer a V8 in your Chevrolet or would you prefer a VW engine in the same car? A 15" woofer will pressurize the room better/easier than a 6" woofer. The 6" woofer is going to have to move in/out a lot more to move the same amount of air that the 15" will move.

  15. home now....I think I woke up during the procedure, I remember saying "I'm still awake" and the doctor saying to give me more fentanol. She cut two polyps and biopsied an area where the colon wall was thickening. My brother said she didn't seem too concerned about either. But that prep is FAR worse. Nurse said this stuff is new and is supposed to replace Carl's jug of chemical water. Was a bit shakey on my feet for a bit, but feel normal now ... Just real tired as hardly any sleep last night, Thanks for the well wishes folks,

  18. Finishing second cup now. Speaking of cups what do you consider a cup of coffee. I used to make half a pot every morning, that was about 3 cups for me. Now with this Kruerig it doesn't even fill my cups on the large setting. Apparently most people don't consider a 16 oz cup a cup of coffee. A little quote from last night. People: "why start in Omaha Ne?" Ozzy: "why the F&%K not!!" I could have gone to work today, however it turned out I needed to have a new spring installed on the garage door. Normally I would do it myself, however the builder installed a Wayne Dalton garage door and spring. Which turns out to be cheap junk. So I am having a complete new spring system installed UGH. This will set me back about $500.00, next will be the door later this year, as it was mangled a little when the spring got jammed. Oh well the perks of being a home owner, I wouldn't have it any other way. I guess I will take the day to listen to music and do home work. Works for me. Peace, Love, and Coffee!!!

  19. A huge winter storm is on it's way to the southeast and east coast, maybe the biggest storm EVER for DC, Philly, New York/Jersey…etc. 24"+ of snow is forecasted for DC! They're predicting a lot of power outages. I hope everyone in it's path stays safe and warm. Hopefully the media is just over-hyping this event.

  21. Carl, the bathroom is looking really good, i love the way the til is run and the glass top, very nice. MKP I don't know why but many many year ago when I did that kind of thing I loved turning rotors and drums, just something about it and that shiny new surface, Ok I'm easy to please.

  22. Looks good Carl. I still like tile in a running bond pattern the best, when the tile size permits it. Thanks to all on the bathroom comments. I'm not quite sure what a running bond is and am too lazy to google it. It's when the vertical grout line is in the middle of the next course, or row above. It's also called half bond…..it's a masonry term. They're much stronger than vertically stacked, and looks better.

  24. Here's the difference between you shop and mine. You own yours. I'm just a custodian. No one cares as much about the equipment as I do. I tell the guys, "if something's broke, tell me and I'll either fix it or have it fixed". I still end up finding things that need attention on my own.

Seriously BSM I hope it turns out to be just a standard visit with great news. It could be worse, how would you like to have the doctors job, not so much.

  32. We had a "dusting" this morning, about 2", but if you watched the media, you would think we had 2' It takes us a while to get back to comfortably driving in the snow. I snowmobile up in Michigan and Wisconsin, those folks know how to drive in the white stuff, plus they take snow removal seriously. I think the doctor should take you to lunch, shouldn't this be considered a 3rd date ? Just make sure all that drink you had to to drink is gone, if not the Del Taco would fly through you like a rocket. I hate to do it but I had to laugh at these comments! (sorry Steve)

  35. bigger is better in that a larger horn (we are talking Klipsch horn loaded speakers here) will have more control of the polar response, the larger the horn the lower that polar pattern response control will go down in frequency. Large horns in a small room are much better at controlling dispersion than smaller ones or than dome tweeters do and that means that in a small room you can achieve far far greater control of wall reflections which screw up the sound especially in small rooms. If you have too much bass in a small room that is what tone controls are for. You don't throw the baby out with the bath water. These are facts not fiction. I think that the OP's ears have answered his own question. In a small room big horns are kind of like wearing earphones they eliminate the room from what you are hearing and you sure don't want to be hearing your room. Best regards moray james.

  37. Morning all..... Man oh man am I tired....I was working on the tractor putting the snowblower on it till 1:00 in the morning....it's a pain working on stuff at my house in the garage...I'm spoiled with the shop....got the blower part on .......this morning I'll put on the cab... Yea we looking at a big storm hitting us...we are in the Nothern part of MD... calling for 16"-24" so far... When we get a lot of snow like this we prep the lot at the shop...the used car guys take all there cars around the back of the shop... After I snowblow my drive way at my house, I plan on loading up my tractor and taking it to the shop...the one used car guy is also going to bring his tractor/blower in.... We don't really have a true four wheel drive vehicle... I have my old CRV... I hook my little trailer to it... it does "ok" ...but I don't have a real truck... Back in the day long before the shop at the old house, all me and wife drove were Toyota Landcruiser's... we never did our drive way... the wife had her 77 FJ-40 with 35" Swamper's and I had my 77 FJ-40 with 34" swamper's.... my truck did the best in deep snow..the tire's were 34" tall but only 9.5" wide....that thing would "blaze" though the snow... to top it off the family ride was a 86 FJ-60 Criuse wagon...Man those were the days....oh well... OK gang I should be doing something....let me get to it... a good day to all... MKP :-)

  39. So I have read this thread along with the other related threads and would have to agree that many (most?) forum members including myself did not see the original post when it first came out. As a long-time member, I have seen much generosity, assistance, and offers of assistance provided by Klipsch forum members, from donating cash to those in need, to donating audio gear, to buying lunch for the Klipsch factory, to purchasing flower arrangements for departed members, to just simply offering help -- audio related or otherwise. Heck, just a few months back, someone that I don't even know offered to help me move a few hundred pounds of speakers up a flight of stairs! That's not to mention the tons of advice that is freely given out hourly all in the name of improving everyone's musical (and home theater) enjoyment. Back on the subject of Mrs. Klipsch and her current well-being -- I did have some thoughts to share. I'm sure all of us applaud the efforts of those that have taken the time to help with her situation. While it was stated in one of the threads that she has more than enough money to buy whatever she wants, I don't have any issues with the monetary collections for flowers, cards, and whatever gift ideas may be found. Although I would suggest to allow people to contribute whatever they chose without expectations of minimum (or maximum) amounts as everone has different financial situations ( I wouldn't judge someone by what gear they own. There are some that may have impressive gear but that may be all they have). But it was that point that made me wonder of other ways to help. As I understand it, her current dilemma is mostly regarding depression. Here is a thought -- all of us connect to her though her husband who designed and built the speakers that brought all of us to this forum. How about simply writing a letter to her describing how these speakers that brought all of us together have enriched our lives. Maybe describe the audio journeys that brought us to avoid the "B.S". and discover the power of Klipsch. I'm sure she would get a kick out of the road trips that have been taken all in the name of acquiring more Klipsch speakers. I know I have several stories I could tell. My guess is that she would delight in hearing just how much her husband's life work has had a positive impact on our musical enjoyment and the importance of that in our lives. I am reminded of this quote from the movie Dead Poets Society but I would just as easily substitute music for poetry in this quote (or any other art form for that matter): "We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for." So my suggestion would be to augment what is already being done with personal letters hand-written (or at least hand-signed for those with poor penmanship!) to Mrs. Klipsch and sent in the mail by Klipsch forum members. By sending them in the mail, the letters will be received in a spread out fashion (potentially daily) where early-birds and procrastinators can equally contribute to the distributed deliveries. I'm sure most on this forum can afford an envelope and stamp. For those that truly can't, I'd be willing to send them one. Christy: this post was intended to be positive and hopefully it will be taken in that light. My sincere apologies if that is not the case.

  42. Ahhh. Why turn any of them then? Here it's one to swap and 2 to turn. Throw out the lathe. FYI - $8 per rotor to get turned / trued here. I can drop a pair off at O'Reilly's and pick them up about 1 hour later. Yea I got a few guys that walk rotors in my shop...if they want them all cleaned up and turned it's $15 cash...now if ya just want them turned it's $10 cash...Most people don't know you should wash a rotor with hot soapy water after machining it... it gets all of the metal off the rotor.....same thing as honing a cylinder block...ya wash the cylinder out with hot soapy water.... MKP :-)
